This 590 acre park is located in the Blackwater State Forest in Florida and it is beautiful with the river, tall pines & oak trees. The river has a sand bottom with dark tannin water and is considered one of the purest sand-bottom rivers in the world. The river is part of the Florida canoe trail and has white sandbars for pulling over, picnicking and swimming. There is hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing, equestrian trails, swimming and floating down the river. You need to have all your supplies before you go there but in reality, it is not that far off interstate 10 crossing the panhandle. Thirty great sites in two loops with the tall pines providing shade. Next to our campsite there was a boardwalk through the bayou to the nature trail and a beautiful white sand beach where you can swim or sit on the banks and watch the kayaks & rafters float by you. The hosts and workers at this park were great. We always enjoy staying here for a few nights. The first night we were under a tornado and thunderstorm watch but the next morning the sun was out for a beautiful day. One can rent kayaks, canoes or rafts by the bridge to float down the river and they even have drop off options. You cross a bridge to get to the campground and the bridge is the takeout spot for anyone floating down. Next to the campground there is a day use area with a bigger beach and an overflow camping area ($5.33 a night). Florida State Parks are all different and this one is still one of our favorites. The Boat Ramp Road next to the entrance of the park is a single lane road with pull offs but best of all it is a great bike trail. We have camped here in April and May but we were told black flies can be a problem in June. The park seems to be busy on weekends but during the week you might find a spot to camp. It is so peaceful here listening to the wind blow through the tall pines & oak trees on a bike ride, floating down the river or just sitting in your campsite. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a fantastic State Park. It is neat, well kept, and absolutely breath taking. The Park Rangers and the volunteers are the best of the best. But getting here. Be careful where your GPS wants to take you. If you're coming from I-10 follow the signs, the route into the park is well marked. The road in from Route 90 is a bit narrow, a few twists and turns but is not difficult to negotiate. The roads within the Park are all paved with no overhanging trees and easy to drive, Sites are back in, some concrete pads, most hard packed gravel like ours. Our site, #4, was dead level as where the sites to either side of ours. All utilities were convenient to the wet bay. Our site was fully shaded but we were able to find a spot and set up our Dish antenna and get a strong signal. Site separation is excellent. Verizon cell service is good. Verizon MiFi can be slow at times. Over the air channels were so-so. There are a couple of nice, easy hiking trails. There are a couple of nice bathing beaches. You can rent either a canoe or a tube if you want to get out on the water. Six miles west on Route 87 South is a small grocery store and three major brand gas stations. Everything else you might need is in Milton just west of the historical district on Route 90. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

In Milton go to Riverfront Boardwalk, Veterans Memorial Plaza, and Arcadia Homestead, Arcadia Mill. In Pensacola, attend a Blue Angels Air Show usually on Tuesday (get there early); and visit the Naval Air Museum (2 to 3 days to see it all). Also visit the Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base.

This may be the best, in terms of environment, Florida State Park Campground we have visited and we have visited a dozen or so. The volunteers keep in wonderful condition. It's small but clean, neat and well maintained. The campground is isolated in a forest full of tall pines and oaks but all sites have full hook ups; something not often found in such a location. It is located about 4 miles off of US 90 and about 15 Miles east of Milton, Fl. There are two loops, Magnolia and TiTi. The interior roads are paved; the sites are nice level pea gravel that has been raked smooth before you arrive. All sites have a picnic table, grill and fire pit. There is a nice little playground in the center of Magnolia loop. Most sites in Magnolia are deep, wide and private with plenty of room. Some sites in TiTi loop are not as deep so check that against your rig's length when booking. It's a nice short walk to Blackwater River. The river is shallow and full of inviting clean sand bars. Overall you can't beat this state park campground if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place to hangout for a few days in the deep woods of the Florida panhandle. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our first visit to this park, and in a word, WOW! Truly a beautiful little park, asphalt roads and sites, very clean, friendly staff, cheap (especially with full hookups), and I think this was the first state park where they picked up your trash every morning! Very dog friendly area with bags and waste stations around. Nearby state forest trails for letting dogs get some exercise, and we even found a sandbar in the state forest (not the park) where we could let our guys swim. You are out in the middle of no where, but we loved that. There are also frequent helicopters flying overhead some folks complain about, but it didn't bother us much. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back! Site 11 is one of the nicest, but most others are nice as well. For big rigs, check the length of the site and back in angle though. Some angles would make backing in tough. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of the cleanest parks we have stayed in! The camp hosts came to our site to see if we needed anything. Our site was easy to get into. There were trails to explore and a nice beach area by the river. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Park was clean and well kept! There was a nice small playground conveniently located and river access was just a short walk away. Lots of wildlife to watch. We did see a 5ft rattlesnake, so be sure to keep watch if you are walking about. Could not believe that I didn't get a single mosquito bite, I usually am a magnet for mosquitos, but there were none to be found!! We planned to stay 2 nights but left early due to a cranky toddler, but I definitely recommend this park. The only downfall was that the ranger station is only open from 5:00pm-7:30pm. They do pick up trash every morning, but it would be nice to have it done in the evening as well, so there isn't trash at the site through the night. The dumpster is far from campsites. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Tent Trailer.

All the reviews are accurate - it's a beautiful park, well maintained, great staff. Definitely paddle the Blackwater River. HOWEVER - There's a naval air station training field next door. We had loud, low flying helicopters overhead from 7am to past midnight, constantly. We travel to parks to get away from the city noises, not to tour them. This went on for all three days of our visit. Another gripe - the campsites are nearly all 90 degrees off the narrow roads, which means backing into them can be a challenge. We had site 18 reserved, but after 20 minutes of trying, there was no way I was going to successfully back my 32' 5th wheel into it due to the 90 degree turn, trees and garbage cans close to the opposite side of the road that prevented me from having the maneuvering room needed. We were able to get into site 12. (If you have a really big rig, site 11 appears to be the longest). Nice park, nice trails and river - but if you're trying to get away for peace and quiet, this may not be the park for you. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This little gem of a park is in the middle of a restored Long Leaf Pine and wire grass forest. It is kept impeccably clean by the camp host and I found that even while I was off on a day excursion, our site was raked and blown clean. The sites are very generous in size and have a picnic table, fire pit, and clothes lines.

The Blackwater River runs through the park and we paid the nearby Blackwater Canoe to transport us and our kayaks upriver for a leisurely and beautiful 3 hour trip back to our truck. You can also rent canoes and kayaks from them. If hiking is your thing, there are several short trails that take you down to the river and through the forest. We will definitely be back! We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a small well thought out park. Very clean with host family that picks up garbage every morning, rakes sites for next campers, and keeps park very clean. Sites are roomy. even have hammock sites. Small clotheslines and fire rings provided at each site. River has many sandy beaches and there's a nice roadway ro walk or bike. Trails lead along river. Enjoyed our stay very much. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nearest large town was MIlton. No laundry on site, which would have made this campground perfect, but loved camping here. Kayak rental available or bring your own....great on the river, which has a nice current.

Great little campground, 30 sites. We were on site #8, private and close to the trail to river and beach. We would give it a 10 except for the lack of hiking and biking opportunities. If we had a kayak or canoe it would have been a 10, the river is very close and scenic. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

This park is top notch. The utilities work great. You will need extra hose if your dump is in the rear of your unit. The site has small gravel and the hosts actually rake it to keep it leaf-free and looking good. The sites are wide enough to park your car next to your rig. There is a convenient playground for kids. The camper hosts are quite helpful and friendly. They pick up your trash at your site every day. You get a table, grill, and fire pit at each site. The park is small and tucked in four miles north of Rt 90. We would come back. The only reason I didn't give it a ten is that pull thru sites would be nice for those who tow. Nice park! This amazing state park is about 10 miles off Interstate 10 and is well worth the drive. The area is covered with pines and other foliage and the park includes walking trails and a beautiful river. The level sites are extra large gravel base with conveniently-placed utilities including sewer. We were able to park our 39-foot fifth wheel and tow vehicle in the eady to back in spot with without unhooking. Despite significant rain during our stay our site remained dry. We had excellent OTA television reception. Verizon and Sprint were somewhat limited but within the acceptable range. We wish we would have had more time to explore the park and we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a small park, clean, shaded lots, staff was very nice and helpful. First time camping with our TT, facilities were clean, nice little park. My only two complaints are we could not get service with AT&T and the yellow flies were out of control. It was not enjoyable to sit outside the camper.
