Jul 2019 - $1.00
Large campground nestled in a country road. Very busy filled with full-time locals living in RVs. Front desk staff was a little confused about check-ins and the manager made me feel a bit uncomfortable the way she addressed the front desk staff. She also refused an escort to my site due to insurance purposes. The office was closed during lunch hours and check-ins and check-outs were nestled outside around the office area with trucks and RVs. On my day of departure, I just left without any paperwork to drop. Roads were potholed and all sites were very unlevel. My site in particular was full sun/no shade and had a huge picnic table where my RV should've been parked. Pool area was spacious and very, very dirty filled with leaves, bugs, and debris throughout my stay. Locals cruising by at all hours of the day and nite in golf carts with music blasting and drinking alcohol. It rained for a few days and my site, along with neighboring sites were swamped. Bathrooms were state of the art, but without any chairs or hangers inside the stalls for belongings. Laundry area attached to the office. No store and they were out of ice during my stay. Locals did not leash their dogs and it was difficult to walk my own with dogs running up to my dogs constantly. Their were multiple areas to walk dogs and available poop buckets throughout the park. The best feature of the entire park is the ice cream stand. It is colorful, pleasant, and old school with treats for all ages. Boat ramps available for use and boat parking. I would recommend this park for a fishing tournament or scallop season or a short term stay. There is zero privacy and very noisy. I enjoyed the area of Crystal River visiting friends and heading to neighboring attractions and used this campground as a place to lay my head at nite. One way streets inside campground. Navigation though large trucks and boats important. Bring bug spray and rain boots. - beholdaprincess

The sites are roomy except when the tide comes in. Some sites end up pretty swampy then. It is close to the beach which is handy since the pool was shut down for the month. Watch out for high tide. The water came up under my motorhome. There was a warning about snakes and alligators posted behind my rig. The campground floods when it rains. It is pretty buggy. If you have a boat, it is convenient with docks on site. All sites are shady. - June and cozy

This is a VERY nice campground near the gulf beach. It also has boat access to the gulf. There is always something going on. There is a very nice pool area and many amenities. Also very nice restrooms. I just wish staff was nicer to 1000 trails/Encore members. Often treated like we are mooching because we don't pay at the gate. Do they think the membership is free? Otherwise, this is an extremely nice park. Look at the map ahead of time and call to request a specific site. - Teacherteacher
Feb 2013 - $20.00
Nightly rate is based on the weekly rate. This is a mobile home/RV park, however, unlike most the RVs are in a separate area. All new 20/30/50 amp utilities on sites with sewer/water and cable TV. Nice and quiet park with a lot of mature oaks and palms. Pool and laundry. Verizon phone and MiFi worked well. Crystal River is 8 miles south and Rainbow Springs State Park is 20 miles. We will stay here again if in the area. - ddtuttle
Feb 2012 - $250.00
We stayed here of a total of two months and had a very enjoyable winter at Aurora Acres. Jean and Shirley were very friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. The security there is one of the best I've seen. The campground was clean and the yearly residents there were very quiet even the children were quiet. You never knew they were around. If you are looking for a quiet place to spend your winter,we highly recommend this place. The entire time we were residing there, there were never any loud parties and no one was wondering the park at night. I felt extremely safe there. The only thing they didn't have is a laundromat, which there are a few in Crystal River just down the road. We will be going back, hopefully next year to spend another winter at a wonderful RV park. Thanks again Jean and Shirley for making our winter such an enjoyable one. Hope to see you next year. :) Patty - Patty K
Jun 2011 - $26.00
Stayed there last night and it was a very quiet campground. It seems to be a work in progress, but we sure slept well. In fact we slept in because it was so quiet. - CMcgirr
Jan 2013 - $35.00
You will all be glad to know that Big Oaks has new owners. My husband and I rented a cabin for 2 months but will probably stay for much longer. This is one of the last hidden gems left in Florida. I can swim in the pool, fish on the dock without a fishing license, canoe up and down the beautiful Withlacoochee River for free, shopping and dining are nearby, I can fish in salt or fresh water here and the boat ramp is free to residents. Happily, it's quiet, peaceful and affordable. free Wi-Fi, too. - luvtowin333
May 2008 - $35.00
I was to stay at least a month, but had enough after 1 night, place was a joke. I personalty wouldn't have trusted the employees as far as I could throw them. I noticed drug activity and also a bar located on the campground where locals visit, Police were there twice during my stay serving papers to other residents and one was arrested. I had big rig and had to get on top to clear the power lines and trees. Was told there would be 50 amp but only 30 was there and water lines leaked badly needs lots of work. - RoadRambler
Jan 2008 - $35.00
New manager and owner. The place needs a LOT of work. Very run down. The staff is nice and helpful. They are constantly working on the place. Nice location but too small of a park for my needs. They had a lot of permanent residences that did not contribute favorable to the image of the park. Didn't have any activities scheduled while we were there. Pool was closed for work as was the recreation room. The washers and dryers were a joke. I must say the owner and staff are trying to improve it but it has a long ways to go. I gave them a "3" because of the effort otherwise it would have been a "1". - twolees
Jul 2017 - $14.00
Nightly rate reflects monthly charge plus estimated electric. Diamond in the rough. New owners are slowly repairing, replacing, and restoring this sweet RV park. Located on Lake Rousseau with an emphasis on fishing, although no swimming is allowed (lots of gators). It's a really pretty place with great neighbors who watch out for one another. It's quiet and peaceful. Nice laundry that's reasonably priced ($1.75 wash/$1 dry). There's a mix of permanent residents and those just staying for a short time. No cable and OTA is spotty and inconsistent (not a big deal to me), but their WiFi is fantastic. It has great potential and these folks are working hard to make it meet that potential. - hippichik
Apr 2019 - $30.00
We found this campground on RV Trip Wizard and we chose to stay here because the resorts and state parks nearby were full. Plus the pictures online make it look different than it actually is.
They were advertising $20 per night sites with full hookups so we figured a little drive to the areas we wanted to explore wouldn’t be bad.
We got to the campground and the ONLY TWO SITES for $20 were tiny and right next to the road. Absolutely zero shade and one of the sites isn’t even full hookups according to the man staying full time in the site next to the two $20 sites.
We ended up moving to a $30 per night site for the 2 weeks we stayed. The site we were in had tress so close you can’t get your awnings outs. Going into this campground believing and being told we were secured at $20 per night (FHU) in our 37’ RV and getting there realizing those sites wouldn’t accommodate us is disappointing.
Shady business practices like this are unethical. Do not be fooled like we were. We could have left but there wasn’t anywhere else nearby in our budget of the $20-35 per night range.
This campground was quiet and people leave you alone. But it’s full of dilapidated campers that people live in full-time. There were no kids, nothing to offer for children & the bugs are so bad you do t want to be outside. It’s far from everything and the local town has nothing to offer.
2 stars for full-hookups + no issues the 2 weeks we were there. I’m taking 3 stars off for false advertisement and the distance away from anything of interest.
If you do choose to stay here be warned that the bugs are AWFUL. Take bug spray. - Wheeling To Dream

Very nice stay. Large lots. Very friendly staff. Any problems handled immediately. WiFi great. Laundry rooms are spotless and reasonably priced. Nice pool. - Kwfreeman47
Sep 2018 - $30.00
We have stayed here a few years ago and have found the park not to have changed much since last visit. The pool is clean and there were new washers and dryers (you need a credit card to use). Most sites were occupied by long term workers for a local plant and some of the campground rules about extra vehicles and storage were ignored. Although cable hookup is included, the normal network stations were not working. We were told that they had not renewed their contract with the cable company. Glad we were not planning on being there on Saturday to view our favorite college football games! Our picnic table was badly warped. Clearly basic maintenance is done but little money put back into amenities. - Golfgirl
Aug 2018 - $30.00
We stayed here for our first two weeks in an RV ever! Booking was easy - we were able to get a site for two weeks in January when I called in mid-December. We stayed in a pull-through right near the pool, bathhouse, and laundry room. The site was grass with a concrete patio and picnic table. There was plenty of room for our RV, truck, and minivan. The facilities were clean, in good repair, and looked almost new. There were plenty of washers and dryers. My children were able to ride their bikes and take our dogs to the spacious, fenced-in dog park by themselves without a problem. The other people there seemed like mostly seasonals, but all the sites were kept clean and tidy. Hookups worked fine, Wifi was okay (typical for a campground, it slowed down a fair bit in the evenings, but was good otherwise). We did not have great cell service, though. The campground is on a main road but we didn't hear too much road noise. We had a great time, felt welcome and safe, and would definitely return. - All Over The Map
Mar 2018 - $30.00
This is a camp for a man and his horse and its perfect for them. WiFi was not good. Very spacious and quite park. Walking trail we tried in the nearby state park have all been chopped up by horses and are very differcult to walk on. Didnt want to try another. The local town Dunnellon at swampys was lovely for lunch. Looks like a ride on the river would have been nice if we got there earlier. Nobody is around in the office so you have to ring. Feb 2018 - $45.00
I have a 45 ft motor home and alway worry about space when parking. The lots were extremely spacious and fairly level for grass sites, I travel with leveling blocks so it wasn't an issue. Everything was kept very clean. The lady who works there is very nice and stops by to talk from time to time. Very laid back place, was told I could pick my spot upon arrival which I liked. I would definitely like to return for a longer period of time. - Homeiswhereyouparkit1
Jan 2018 - $50.00
Overall a good campground, but the price is too high for what they offer. It was $45, plus an extra $5 per person over 2 people, so it was $50 + tax and cash only for us. Plus: wide open and very easy to maneuver. I asked for a pull-thru, but none were open, but it was very easy to back my 35' 5th wheel (and could have pulled through 2 back to back back-ins if I had wanted). Bathroom very clean & well stock, though they were chilly one cool evening. Grass sites are not all level, some have lots of large ant mounds, no fire rings, no picnic tables. No one was at the campground, office was closed the 2 days I was there. I was asked to leave cash in the box by the office. I had misunderstood when I made the reservation - I thought it was $50 for both nights, but it was per night. It just does not have enough amenities to charge that much (and most of the other RV parks around do not appear to be this much). BUT, this place is a horse ranch - so a lot of people had their horses and trailers. Maybe the cost includes having your horse there or something. I would not come back here. Oh, and it had for sale signs in front of it (Jan 2018). - 5th Wheel Family
Mar 2009 - $20.00
If you transport horses, this is the campground for you. Its a no frills CG but makes up with natural beauty. 100 acres of farm land with (horse) trails leading to a state park plus horse corrals and a barn to exercise your horses. There are no restrooms/showers or pools but the quietness, the relaxation and natural beauty that surrounds you well makes up for it. Bring plenty of food/necessities since its a trip into town. At night you can unwind by a campfire! The owner is an amazing woman whom immediately will become family. The sites are just right, no shade, but you will feel comfortable and secure. - NPC
