We've been spoiled! Two weeks of our stay (the max allowed) was on the waterfront row with an unspoiled view of the shipping traffic. Another week in a back-in site that was just as nice, even without the perfect view. Well maintained, well run, well designed with level pads, full service (including cable, free laundry, free ice). We will definitely return, but will plan for March when the weather is a bit friendlier. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Excellent fresh seafood at Safe Harbor Seafood Market in Mayport. Also the smoked fish dip and fresh catch seafood is awesome at Singleton's in Mayport. Great margaritas and tacos and guac that is made fresh at your table at the Flying Iguana in Atlantic Beach, just south of Mayport. St. Augustine is full of history and shopping for a day excursion.

Called in September, only one waterfront site available. Concrete slab w/patio apron. Actually, it is really 1st row, w/unobstructed view of the St Johns River. 100 yards(+/-) from water. Watched dolphins along with the many fishermen on the large rip-rap erosion control along the river. There is a new dog park, very large. Easy access to sites. Pull-thru's only on 1st row, rest are back-in's. There is a commissary, off post, mile away. They sell beer at the gas station, as you enter post. Good campground, that take reservations 6 months out, and can stay up to 28 days, when available. 47 total sites, all w/full hook-ups. There is also (adjoining Pelican Roost) campground Osprey Cove Park. 50 sites, but not reviewed here. There is also WiFi available. No charge, but limited to 60 hours/month, not secured. Bring your own WIFI. Free cable w/99 stations, all great (except the history channel). We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location to visit Jacksonville and surrounding area. Lots of stores within 5-10 miles of base. Exchange and Commissary are off the base but just down the street. Jacksonville NAS station is nearby which have a bigger Exchange and Commissary, if needed, St Augustine is a must visit, intended to go for a day, spent two days touring city and nearby attractions

Very nice military FamCamp. Just a general observation, the Navy seems to have some of the best FamCamps. They are always well maintained and in good locations. Pelican Roost is a good example of this. Pelican Roost is located where the St Johns river empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville Florida.

The office personal are very helpful and friendly. The cement patio is on the small side. Just large enough for the aluminum picnic table. Our site was level and had partial shade from palm trees. The down side from having palm trees close was it blocked one of our satellites. Most sites should not have a problem with satellite reception. Shade is a premium here. Water pressure at our site was 38 psi. Sites have green grass that is kept mowed.

Roads are paved and easy to navigate. No large trees or low tree limbs to deal with. The beach is about ½ miles from the RV Park. The beach is not crowded and you can walk for miles on the beach. There are 19 RV sites that directly overlook the St Johns River. The remaining 28 sites are in two rows behind the 19 riverfront sites. All sites face the river. The riverfront sites cost $21 per day and the remaining sites are $19 per day.

Laundry is free and so is the WiFi. The WiFi is offered through GoWiFi. We had some of the best Verizon 4G reception ever here. We did not use the free WiFi here. The community center has free coffee in the morning and free ice all day. It also has a large indoor area with tables and chairs, greet for meetings.

Use the Main Gate located on Mayport Rd. The Gate is covered and is high enough and wide enough for any RV. Use the right lane for both entering and leaving the base. There are not any barriers to navigate when entering or leaving the base. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest parks around. Sits on the water and you can watch the ships going in and out. Easy walk to a great beach. The big negative is this park which use to have a max of two weeks stay is now going to allow the six months stay which means it will only be enjoyed by the snow birds that take to the military bases In the winter months and locking up the sites. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Probably one of the nicest parks we have stayed in on a base. It is small, not that many sites, but the view is outstanding. If you like to watch the ships come in and out of port, if you like to walk on the beach and if you like friendly folks, this is the place. Full hook-ups and concrete pads. Reservations fill fast so be sure and plan ahead. The front row is the water view, but we were in a back row and it was still wonderful. The beach is just a short walk or drive away. You can walk for miles on it. Pretty easy on and off base, even with a big rig. And the laundry was free. Not such a big deal, but thoughtful for those of us who needed to do it. The wifi seemed to work well throughout the park for the basics needs. The staff was outstanding! We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

One of the very best in the military. Million dollar view, great staff. Well run park. Internet works fantastic. We love this place. Free laundry with new washers and dryers. Too bad other military bases can't take a lesson from these folks. They definitely do it right. We will return. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

We stayed two weeks in a waterfront pull-thru. Interior road and sites were paved. Our site was long and level. Water pressure was good. We had our own wifi. It was nice to be able to watch the boats come and go but the front row is also very windy and there's early morning runners up and down the road during the week. It's a nice well-kept and well-managed park that enforces the stay limits so no homesteaders. No playground, no dog park. Laundry is free. Commissary and NEX are off-base. In December, there was still construction on the road coming in. Overall a nice park. We'll return but surprisingly, we'll probably ask for one of the quieter sites in the back row next time. This is a great facility. Located right on the water, you can watch ships as they travel in and out of the harbor. The beach is a 5 minute walk and is very clean. Sites are spacious with FHU and cable. Free laundry facilities and clean restrooms and showers. The wind can be a problem. Only 2 out of 14 days was the wind calm enough you could enjoy being outside. There is a lot of road construction on base. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

What a setting! You can sit outside & watch the river traffic. Quite often you can watch one of the Navy ships pull in. And watch people gather on the shore. You can make reservations which is a good thing because this is a popular park. 2 week max but can extend if no one is scheduled to come in. Lots to do in the area off base. On base is a golf course. Aice place for breakfast or lunch. Commissary & Exchange are located off base. The CG itself has activities, pot lucks, ice cream socials & other gatherings. We are here at least once a year to visit family in the area. Great sites & staff. Don't leave your awning out. We have started a collection of pics of various awnings in disarray after being left out while people are gone or left up overnight. We will stay here again & again! We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
