This is one of our favorite campgrounds, and we make it a point to stop each year as we enter Florida from the north. The campsites are spacious and clean. It was clear that the hosts had raked the areas around the utility post and fire pit. Most sites have a very private feel, as though you are surrounded by Florida jungle. It's just a short walk to the beach or a fresh water lake. Many guests use the park for off-road biking. Beautiful. - Miles and Smiles
Nov 2018 - $33.00
The park location and beaches are wonderful - and kudos to the city of Jax for providing for all citizens such a wonderful facility to enjoy, but much needs to be done to improve the overall camping experience. We camped here beginning Nov 17, a Saturday, and the park was over-flowing with unattended children and groups of young students using the park for partying and binge substance abuse. After 9 or 10 pm we were puzzled that no law enforcement presence was visible. Well past midnight no one seemed to be patrolling the park, and there was plenty of loud, drunk and disorderly conduct to observe. The next morning was even worse, with (as noted by a previous reviewer) disgustingly trashed toilet facilities (we saw feces and vomit on bathroom floors) that would encourage anyone to use the woods rather than the park restrooms. Smokers in the bathrooms seem common here as well. We are veteran campers and cannot understand such negligence on the part of park administration or fellow campers. The camp sites are also bizarrely arranged - large class C motor homes mingle next to tent campers. Great location and beach access – but the campground needs more aggressive monitoring and bathroom facilities need badly upgrading. Overall, a disappointing stay. - GLCDP
Aug 2018 - $30.00
Water and electric good. Site mostly hard "sand" in amongst a LOT of Florida beach vegetation. Oaks, Spanish spear, et al. Roads paved but narrow - "you can do it" (if that fellow in a classic 40' Continental Class-A can do it). Beach is a 5- min. walk - or bike ride. Great place to see how things likely were 100 years ago on the Florida coast. - jtids

We've been spoiled! Two weeks of our stay (the max allowed) was on the waterfront row with an unspoiled view of the shipping traffic. Another week in a back-in site that was just as nice, even without the perfect view. Well maintained, well run, well designed with level pads, full service (including cable, free laundry, free ice). We will definitely return, but will plan for March when the weather is a bit friendlier. - Tin Can Twosome
Jan 2019 - $27.00
Called in September, only one waterfront site available. Concrete slab w/patio apron. Actually, it is really 1st row, w/unobstructed view of the St Johns River. 100 yards(+/-) from water. Watched dolphins along with the many fishermen on the large rip-rap erosion control along the river. There is a new dog park, very large. Easy access to sites. Pull-thru's only on 1st row, rest are back-in's. There is a commissary, off post, mile away. They sell beer at the gas station, as you enter post. Good campground, that take reservations 6 months out, and can stay up to 28 days, when available. 47 total sites, all w/full hook-ups. There is also (adjoining Pelican Roost) campground Osprey Cove Park. 50 sites, but not reviewed here. There is also WiFi available. No charge, but limited to 60 hours/month, not secured. Bring your own WIFI. Free cable w/99 stations, all great (except the history channel). - Long Island Mac

First time there. Great location, great staff, easy to get to campground. Try to stay on the water front for great views of the ships entering and exiting the river, walking distance to the beach. - Seckc1

Exceptional. I hold every park to this standard. The staff, patrons, and park go above and beyond my expectations. Love love love this facility and can not wait to return. Very spacious. Parking is on grass but a concrete patio and picnic table are provided. Free clean laundry facilities. Large bathrooms and showers. Clubhouse with screened patio, returning guests are very friendly and have many get togethers. Everyone is welcome. Many pot lucks. Always wave when walking, driving, or riding bikes. Ocean is a few blocks away. Spots are shaded and many wildlife can be observed. In my heart this location will always be home. - CrookedHalo

Camp Host at Pelican Roost when we checked-in did not know how to get to Osprey Cove...Really ?? The Osprey Cove Camp Host was superior. He was on the ball, helpful, respectful, and knowledgeable. Really great dude. Sites are big and nice & Peaceful. Base is a mess right now due to construction. Road in and out of park is good. Jacksonville is really starting to look like a destination rather than a stop over. Decent private beaches on base. Pool looked good but we left before opening day in mid-May. Will stay again, hope the host is there to assist backing my monster in the slot! He was awesome. - hankski
Jan 2014 - $18.00
The “Cove” is an extended-stay park on Mayport Naval Base, but transients are assigned to it for short stays when the main RV Park (Pelican's Roost) is full. Once you check in at Pelican's Roost, you have to back track to this CG. It's not that far, but it is sort of a pain since the route takes you through part of an on base housing area. But on the positive side, that area of the base is pretty quiet. It is well treed which does provide nice shade, but getting satellite signals may be a problem depending on the site assigned. That environment makes for the possibility of scraping the top and sides of the rig with low hanging tree limbs. Wi-Fi is available, but I didn't check it out; instead, choosing to use VZW 4g which was good. Pets are allowed, but I would not call it Pet Friendly in the strictest sense. I didn't see an obvious dog walk area and the rules are strictly enforced. But since there are lots of trees, your dog may in fact be happier with that. The base golf course is nearby. The Hosts were good at their job, free laundry in a clean building was a plus, and I was pleased with the place. - RLM

The main attribute of this park is your at the beach. There are no hook-ups and there is a water fill and a dump station if needed. Most sites are not level, none are paved. It was still cool enough at night to be comfortable but later in the Summer that would not be so and quite hours are from 10PM to 7AM! We enjoyed are stay and will be back in the Fall, would not stay here in the Summer.
This is not a state park, it is a county/city park run by the City of Jacksonville which is also Duval county! - ournextstop

Huguenot is a Jacksonville "City" Park located at the mouth of Saint Johns River. We love this primitive river side campground and have been camping here for years. RV's will need a low noise generator. Bring your bug spray. The showers and bathrooms are currently in poor condition but in working order. Weekdays are quiet but the locals pack in for the beach and party during the summer weekends. We consider the weekend party part of the charm and join in. - MIL-SAT

Primitive sites that are quiet except for the ships coming in over the night. It was a foggy night so they were doing their horn blasts. The bugs were very bad. - kurt111

May 2018 - $28.00
Typical beach type campground, in the sandy scrubs. Sites are separated by vegetation, but you can still see your fellow campers at most sites. Site 40 is fairly large and more secluded than most of the others. The ocean is across the road. Depending on the time of year and the wind, be prepared for no-see-ums and mosquitoes (we did not have any issues in May). Bathhouse, while not new, was satisfactory. Nice short trail, worth taking, in the campground. Fishing area on the river adjacent to the campground. - On the Road again 11
Feb 2018 - $24.00
Little Talbot Island is more of a tent campground than for RVs. Many sites are too small for any camper, and while there are a handful big enough to squeeze in a 25-30' rig, they don't leave much room outside for enjoyment. It's tight. They are generally secluded & shady, though, which is nice. Beyond the sites, it's in a beautiful wild region. If you're lucky enough to have one of the few sites with a view of the water (15 & 16 are the only RV sites that qualify IMO), you have a spectacular vista... which is unfortunately a bit spoiled by the road noise nearby. That's worst down at the end by sites 1-2, but you can hear it across the campground. Wilderness amenities (beach, kayaking, fishing, etc.) are plentiful, but most require a drive to elsewhere in the park or one of the "sister" parks in the Talbot Island area. Finally, no-see-ums were a bit of a scourge at times. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, but this park is not in the same league as Fort Clinch, just up the road. - Spiffe
Apr 2017 - $24.00
Stayed in site 28. My trailer a bullet premier 23'. Site was tight, but I could get trailer and trick in. Fire ring is moveable. Picnic table moveable. Most have poles for clothes line etc. with water and electric close to each other, 30 amp and 15amp plugs. Site was level ,but brush and tree limbs close by. Road in is narrow. Largest trailer I saw was a 24', many tents and pop ups. Campground has code gate. Access to beach is across highway A1A where front gate is located and check in. Board Way, picnic area and bath house by beach parking lot. - Rolltideroll

This is one of the better places to stay in Jacksonville, if you have a large RV, and are there for short stay. The park is a convenient distance and an easy drive to Mayo Clinic. Although in a fairly-high traffic area, it is certainly much quieter than the RV Parks to the north which are under the-path of arriving and departing airplanes. The management is professional in manner, and helpful if one has an uncertain schedule of leaving. The hookups all work well and are conveniently located. On the negative side, the sites are close together. We have stayed here before when meeting appointments at Mayo Clinic and we would certainly stay here again. - hoppytoad
Sep 2017 - $40.00
We stay at this park to visit a relative in Jacksonville. It is mostly park models, and long term RVs, with about 8 short term spots out front by the road. These spots are VERY close together, and each time we've stayed they have all been full. Don't hope for an empty neighboring spot. The campground is clean and they repaved all of the roads since the last time we stayed here. The staff is friendly. The office wasn't open when we checked in, so we went to the site we were told that we had. A staff member came to check on us, and discovered that they had moved us (in the computer) to another spot. Since we were already set up, he just put the other folks in that spot when they arrived. The campground is located on a busy road with lots of warehouses and tire dealers and that kind of commercial development along it. The traffic on the road quiets down at night, so you don't really hear it. - ShoreXplorers
May 2017 - $40.00
Nice park but spaces are extremely narrow. Not recommended for big rigs. Our space was a pull through that was easy to get into but impossible to pull out of because there was a bush about 6 inches from our coach in the direction we needed to turn to get out. Impossible to make the turn without destroying both the coach and the bush. So we backed out but this plan worked badly because cars were parked in the way of our exit. These cars have assigned spaces so they are parked there regularly in a way that blocks egress for any but a small RV. They just put everything too close together here in an effort to maximize the land use, but it makes it way too tight for a larger RV. With a small RV I would recommend this place. The management was very nice. - Rodstein

This park was a perfect 2-day stop for us to tour Jacksonville. The staff and check-in process were were very accommodating. The site was clean and the hookups worked great. The park and the base are great. The wifi was awesome! Considering the location and the extra peace of being in a gated community (on a military base), this is a good value. We would certainly return to this park. - Gweninthewind

This is one of the best famcamps we have been at. The facilities were very good and clean. The site arrangement was well planned out. The middle sites had some shade but we were comfortable. We will return to this camp. - BrianOMurchu

This is one of our favorite military parks. Our site was plenty long for our 42' 5th wheel, concrete and level. Lots of parking room for the truck. Free wi-fi. No cable but our satellite system worked great. Free laundry. Lots of places on base to ride your bike and also a nice marina. Commissary is new and huge. Friendly and helpful office staff. Great location to many shops and stores in Jacksonville. - travelswithpuppies

Good park in an unfortunate location. The park itself: Friendly, efficient check-in. Cement pull-thru full hookup spots. Spots are somewhat level but cement on some sites is cracked. Patio & picnic table. Good wifi. Cable. Pool. Small lake. The location: It is directly under a flight path and the planes are so close that one can count the rivets! The planes take off at 6 am sharp and end in the evening so it is quieter at night but quite loud during the day. Park is also near a freeway; convenient for stop-overs but noisy. This is a great place for a stop-over and we've stopped here frequently on our way between South Carolina and Florida. Central Reservation will say that a minimum of 1 week stay is required but ask for the local office as they do allow overnight stays. There are a number of long-term RV's but they are maintained. They are in the back section. Travelers are put in the front section. We would stay here again as a stop-over spot but would not stay longer due to the very loud noise. Price seemed high. - DrM Traveler
Jan 2019 - $52.00
This RV park's only drawback is its proximity to Jacksonville International Airport ... as the glide path for arriving planes puts them just a couple of hundred feet over park. However, we have stayed here on a number of occasions when heading to or returning from central and southern Florida; and will continue to do so. - dandd
Dec 2018 - $73.00
First time at this park and most likely the last only because it's way overpriced. The property is not a resort but rather a nice campground that charges like a resort. The amenities are nice but we noted several concrete pads within the park that are not level [including our site] which required some RVs to park with wheels off the ground in order to get level. Yes, the campground is located within the takeoff path of Jacksonville international airport runway 8 but planes, trains, and major highways always seem to be a part of RV camping. Sun Communities is a big corporation and like most billion-dollar corporations' profit is king so do not be surprised if you don't get exactly what you paid for. - rams-2015

We only spent 2 nights here between travels. This park is huge but well maintained. The sites are close. You do get an escort to help you to your site and park your rig. Everyone gets a concrete slab and paved pad. It is also gated with an office that is open until 8pm. The major bonus are the amenities. Pool, swimmable lake, recreation building, lots of scheduled activities, kids play area, AMAZING park cable, NO wifi, and a CAFE that delivers food to your site or you can walk to eat there. The laundry room was also very large. Close to highway, with easy entrance and exit, however we did not hear a lot of noise at night. There is also trash pickup at your site. A lot of trees would provide shade in the hot summer months. The only negative is the amount of rvs, tight spaces and no wifi. Everything else turned out to be fantastic. The location of this park is also great. An hour from east coast beaches, lots to do in Jacksonville and close to the Georgia border if you are traveling north or south. - RV Path chosen
Jan 2019 - $75.00
Overall, we had a great time at Flamingo Lake RV Resort. Check-in was fairly quick. We were escorted to our site and found that our campsite was angled opposite the direction we were pointed on the one-way street. Site was easy to back into once we were approaching from a good angle. Site 16 had a great view and we would book that same site again, but we were disheartened at how many other campers cut through between the lakefront sites in order to walk along the lake (behind the campers) to fish, etc. This was frustrating and definitely took away from the illusion of 'privacy' of the wooded campsites. Our site had a small (4 person) picnic table and no sites in the campground had fire pits. We had family staying across the lake in one of the more expensive campsites with a wooden deck, but we preferred our site and site location due to the foliage, paved roads, and proximity to the cafe. The cafe was VERY convenient for when you arrive late and are tired and hangry, when you want a tasty breakfast but are feeling lazy, or when you're looking for a quick snack and coffee before departing. Everything we had from the cafe was tasty and the staff was very friendly. Some roads in the campground are paved, but over half of the roads are 'gravel'. By gravel, I mean mostly dirt and sand, and full of massive holes. Paved roads (or even fresh gravel) would really make a huge difference. We all remarked that unless we would definitely return to the park, but only if we had a lakefront site. A significant rain storm had come through before/during our arrival, which left most campsites in the 'unpaved' loop under several inches of standing water. We rode through the campground several days later and those sites still had standing water all in the roads and around the campers. Campground location was convenient to stores and downtown Jacksonville. Overall, had a great time and would return, depending on which sites are available. - Megan McGrath
Nov 2018 - $50.00
The park is very beautiful, set on a recreational lake. Reasonably quiet, well landscaped. Shower stalls are a little small, and like many places, the shower heads are too low for anyone over six feet. On the down side, the internal roads were very narrow, therefore designated one way. Our angled pull through would have required an impossible hairpin turn to exit in the correct direction. Also, despite booking ahead, our pull through was not long enough to park off the road without unhooking, and tucking our tow vehicle up close to the coach. Others clearly had the same problem, resulting in their vehicles being near or on the road, further limiting maneuvering room in the park. Obviously this area was built in an earlier day when RVs were much smaller. There is a newer area we did not explore which is probably better laid out. If coming here again, we would request it. - nobghuri
