Overall Rating:

Nice secluded campground located on the banks of the Suwannee River. It is 10 miles from the nearest town (Old Town) so be sure to stock up before arriving. The park store has some ice cream and firewood (at very good price) and that's about it. You must navigate a mile long dirt road full of small potholes to find the campground but it's worth it. The park is heavily wooded with mature live oaks, pine trees and palmettos. We were there the first week of March. The park was 80-90 percent full when we were there, mostly snowbirds but very peaceful and quiet. The interior roads and sites are sand and mostly level. The hookups are located conveniently 4 - 5 feet above the ground on a post. Cable was very snowy and not good at all. We were lucky and able to find a hole in the tree canopy for a Diredtv signal. Wi-Fi signal was strong but limited bandwidth made it very slow and unusable most hours of the day. Verizon had 1 bar and iffy at best. The pool has solar heating but was a little green and in need of some TLC when we were there. Most of the sites are cut at 90 degree to the road which makes for a bit of a challenge backing in considering there are so many trees so close to the road. Chiefland is an easy 13 mile drive south of Old Town, 23 miles from Yellow Jacket. It has most of the standard restaurants, Walmart Super Center, etc. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Located in Old Town: The Cottage Café is a simple home town café with good food. Hitchcock's Market is nice, very clean and well organized. It has a deli, bakery and pharmacy.

We stayed during a pretty low season, which was great! We stayed on the interior, however, there was no one behind us so we ended up with a view of the Suwannee River. Pool area, walking around the park and walking to the river were all very nice. We had a nice shady spot and it felt we were in our own yard as the foliage surrounded our lot. No picnic table or fire ring on the lot. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We went for a ride to Suwannee and checked out the homes on the river/canal. Really interesting to see how many homes are on the water in these canals. We ate at the Salt Creek restaurant...quite good, view of the river, and seemed to be the most popular place. Also took a ride to Cedar Key which is a super cute tourist town on the Gulf.

River front sites are for pull-in RV's, so if you have a travel trailer or 5th wheel you'll need super long hookups that will run across your site. No one was in the office when we arrived with a reservation about 3pm. Instructions were posted for us (& appreciated) but the wifi code was omitted. There are lots of shade trees. Restrooms/showers are individual rooms & most were locked. Sites & roads are packed sand. Bring ant and mosquito spray. Cable TV must be Direct TV, and we lost our channels during a thunder storm. Heavy mosquitoes & lots of tiny ants, so be prepared for that. No discounts are offered. No picnic tables on any of the sites. Just not for us. We would not return. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here several times and have always had a nice experience. Pontoon boat rental is available which is a plus. Large open space and nature trails. Plenty of room for kids and dog walking. The owners are very accommodating and even let us use their oven one Thanksgiving. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We were given a site that looked 1/2 a site. We were 8' from our neighbor on our awning side and right against the utility post on the other. Somewhat level, gravel and dirt with no picnic table. On a walk around the park, in the back we discovered at least 40 picnic tables stacked up. We asked the office why they were there they told is campers moved them from the spot they were placed and they didn't want to pay an employee to move them back. The office said they would rent us one for $25.

The only place you could use a cell phone was at the pool. They had a hot spot attached to the fence, and to use it you could not be more than 3' away. Also the pool was heavy with chlorine probably because of the 3 babies in diapers in there. Over priced and will never go back. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Quiet, very picturesque facility fronting the Suwannee River. Sites are shady with large Live Oaks and Spanish Moss. Sites fronting the river were designed so motor homes could pull in facing the river. Hookups are on the wrong side for towables that must back in and utility extensions are required. However, a few of these sites do have sewer hookups on both sides. Other sites are large and private with vegetation separating them.

Park is clean and well maintained. Roads and sites are packed white sand. Bathhouse is composed of separate private units and was clean. However, the bathhouse is not heated or cooled. Wifi was strong and fast. Park location is somewhat remote with nearest groceries and fuel about nine miles away. There is a boat launch and dock available as well as boat rentals. Bingo and other activities were regularly scheduled. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

When we called the office to make reservations we had asked about the river front spaces. We were told that they were all made for Motor Homes and that all the hookups would be on the wrong side. (Too bad they don't have a few for us that have to back in.) They did offer to loan us extensions but we opted for a space right across from the river. Our spot was easy to get into. First evening the biting flies were really bad. (Guess we should have known that due to the name.) Also found that the cable did not work for us or our neighbor. (This was corrected next day.) Restrooms were very clean however, only 1 open on the ladies side and one on the men's. Could not find the showers and was told the next day that they are only in the handicapped restrooms so only 2 for the whole camp? I was told that they would open the other restrooms when it got busier. We were there on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night and it did get busier but never saw anymore of them opened. We did use the pool and it was very nice. Boat docks and ramp were busy and seemed to be in good shape. Nice tables to sit at and watch the boaters coming in. Some rules about golf carts being only for seniors and disabled. Was not an issue for us. Also rule about not bringing in wood. We normally carry our own as most state parks allow you to. We did see people gathering their own instead of buying from the office. Pets were supposed to be kept on a leash no longer than 6 foot. However, there were several that were running loose. One came into the campsite next door to us that had a dog and they went to the office to report it. It ended up belonging to one of the full time residents. Overall nice stay and we would return again. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A hidden gem. Very friendly staff and patrons. Site was clean and level, albeit sandy. Somewhat rough road to enter but worth the short trip off the beaten track. We really enjoyed a three day stay here and would definitely use again if we are in the vicinity. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a well maintained campground that is ideal for nature lovers who want peace and quiet. It is off the beaten path. The dock is well maintained and has a boat/kayak launching area. The lots on the water are beautiful. The lots are large and many are shaded. This is a hidden gem. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I have been staying at this park for the past 5 years periodically throughout the year. Not sure if they have taken on new management or what is happening here. It is still a beautiful park and one of the prettiest I have ever stayed at traveling throughout the US, however, the personnel have changed drastically. Every time I go there it appears more and more permanent residence are moving in. Many now have large decks and have made it a home. The atmosphere is terrible and the campground manager, which is a big gentleman who wears a campground security shirt many of the days, makes you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. This in turn makes me wonder if going back for the river justifies my family feeling uneasy, especially since they feel they need a security man to patrol and make sure people know things are done his way or you may be removed from the campground. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground, spent 3 days, staff very friendly and obliging. We notice while here, maintenance and improvements to the campground seem to be an ongoing, though in no way was this a problems. They seem to be very discreet and mindful of their guests. I would go again. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We come here again and again. It's less than 3 hrs from home, but might as well be 1000 miles away. We leave our work and worries behind. It's beautiful, peaceful and perfect. So quiet and clean. Few children, if any. Wonderful waterfront with nice docks. Rent a pontoon boat - it's great. The owners are very nice pet friendly people. It's obvious that they love it here too. The sun on the water is breathtaking, and there are plentiful fish below the surface. It's our choice for a quick getaway. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The campground was great place to stay. The sites were very big and very shaded. The roads were white sand but not messy. Everything was clean and kept up. The staff were all very nice and friendly. The office manger went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable (thanks). The park is very quiet. It is located on the Suwanne River. If you like peace and quiet, this is for you. Fishing and boating is right here. The only drawback was the nearest town is 9 miles away. The nearest shopping is about 30 miles away. So do your shopping for food before you get there. Our AT&T cellphones did not work and our AT&T Wi-Fi did not work. Other than that, it was avery nice 2 weeks. We will go back. We camped at Yellow Jacket Campground in a Motorhome.
