There is a tram that takes you to the beach area. Very pretty beach. Nice paved roads to ride bikes. Walmart and gas within a couple miles. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

This state park is falling into a state of overgrown underbrush and crumpling concrete pads. Trees need to be cut back as well as bushes and weeds. It is sad to see as this could be a beautiful park and probably was back in its early days. Tree roots are creating rippling effect in the asphalt interior roads as well as potholes. It's obvious that as concrete pads break up and age, they are being replaced with gravel. Large pine trees drip sap constantly. Wildlife seems to be unafraid of humans and it is obvious they are being fed and are looking for handouts. Hookups are adequate and easily accessible. Interior road campsites are narrow with overhanging limbs and brush and nail biting trying to back into with a larger rig. Hope that the state of Florida can get some funds to rehabilitate and renovate this park. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Convenient to many grocery stores such as Publix and Winn Dixie. Lots of restaurants to choose from and many Seafood Markets to pick up your own seafood and bring back to campsite to cook. Prices seem to be reasonable. Traffic can be bad on Hwy 98 during certain times of day.

We have adult all Ladies Campout here every August. We camp in tents and I cannot say enough GOOD things about TopSail Hill. Although the RV sites are really close, the tent areas offer plenty of privacy and convenience. The Rangers and park employees are all phenomenal!!! The beach is one of the most easy to get to, non-touristy beaches in the area. We would never think of tenting anywhere else in the Destin area. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Tent.

This is a great park! We met our son and his family here for a quick vacation. Site 74 backs up to a good sized, fresh water pond that my hubby and grandkids were pulling fish from. Hubby was out there over an hour this morning catching all different sizes of fresh water fish.

Tram runs every 30 minutes during summer high season, taking youndown to the boardwalk over the dunes. Just a short walk from there to the jewel colored ocean and white sand beach. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Topsail State Park is one of our favorite campgrounds. Full hookups, cable, pool. Spacious shady sites, beautiful beach. Tram to beach if you don’t want to ride your bike or walk. You must book 11 months in advance or you won’t get in. Definitely worth a stay. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

Check-in was fast and the people were friendly. They informed us of events happening in the park. The cabin was very nice and clean. We spoke with several rangers while camping and all were very friendly and helpful. The tram to the beach is wonderful and the volunteers were always happy and a lot of fun. Beach was beautiful. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Cabin.

After staying at Topsail twice a year for the past 10 years I will have to say how disappointed I am at the condition of this park in the past year. The few sites at the front of the park were redone this past fall but the front bathhouse remains closed with CAUTION tape around it. Looks like an eyesore in such a beautiful park. The pot holes in the road continue to get bigger but they did put cold patch in a couple while we were there. The foliage in the 100 loop is growing out into the road and they don't mow the grass/weeds as often as they use to. Many of the long term employees are gone and work campers are doing these jobs. The camp store had nothing in it, the management of the store is changing and was told it will soon be well stocked and have a coffee shop in it. The check in procedure was a disaster. Although there were many open sites by noon, and official check in is not until 3:00, they would not let you check in until a work camper blew the site off and physically drove their cart to the check-in building and report they were ready, they couldn't radio this info in. I was told by one camper how rude one of the workers in the check-in office was. At 1:50 PM one day I counted 9 RVs waiting in the parking lot when there were many vacant sites and had been since about 11:00 AM. Most inefficient check-in I have seen in the past 10 years. Although this park is still beautiful and they can keep it full almost any time of the year, it is sad to see it get in this condition. Florida State Parks can surely do better than this. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

I'm not sure this is acceptable because although I had a reservation at Topsail, I cancelled it. It's a nice park but some of the sites are VERY tight. I have a 30 ft travel trailer. I was in the area before we were to arrive so I purchased a day pass to check out our site. It was the only site available when I booked, now I know why. Site 55 is very narrow and we would be facing our neighbor, could probably hear them breathe! I doubt we could have put our awning out we would have been so close. The restrooms and and showers appeared to clean but look closely at site size when you book. Very close sites! We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

OK overall. You need to know what you are getting before you go, though. This is a nice converted RV park that is now a state park. B/c of that the sites are VERY close together in general without much vegetation to speak of other than lots of pine trees. We love shade so we had plenty of that, but the sites were so close together we could literally hear 3 conversations going on at 3 campsites nearby (and they weren't being loud). This is a very popular place for big rigs. That is mainly what was there, but there were some others (like us) scattered around. One surprise was that there aren't any fire rings at the campsites....you must bring your own above ground fire pit ($30 at Walmart that is about 3 minutes away. You will also need a bike to get to the beach. It is a 1/2 mile walk (might be able to do it once before saying "not again"), and there is a tram that runs every hour (so would need to plan your coming and going accordingly). The beach is fantastic. Crystal clear water and white sand...and not huge crowds...so that is a major plus. Location is great too....close to Grafton Beach....Seaside is about a 20 minute drive down the beach. All in all OK in my book....but we won't be returning....sites WAY too close together....too many big rigs....just essentially no privacy....not what I go camping for....but the beach is great! Bring bikes! Don't expect privacy We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

This state park used to be a private campground, which explains why the sites are closer together than I would have otherwise hoped for. One of the bathhouses is closed, as is the pool, for a few months because they are redoing a number of the sites. The sites are in need of improvement, but it is disappointing that only one bathhouse is open for the high number of sites (150?). Each site is a full hookup, however, so that reduces demand somewhat. As another reviewer commented, many of the concrete slabs are in very rough shape. The one we are in (#71) is so cracked that if our RV were any shorter, we might have had trouble getting level. Hopefully they will continue renovating the sites (replacing the concrete pads with crushed stone it seems) so that the cracked pads will not be a problem in the future. There are some large sites and some pull-throughs, but the majority are back-in. There are also a number of sites that are in sun, but many are in shade. Cable is available but is on and off, perhaps having to do with the construction. The beach is the draw here and is truly lovely. It is about 3/4 of a mile from most sites, and easily reached via walking, biking, or taking the tram which departs from the campground every hour. There are also a number of nature trails and bike trails. The main road - Route 98 - is very busy, especially heading west to Destin. The good thing is that you could probably find anything you wanted here; the bad is that the traffic is really heavy. There is also road construction going on which helps to snarl traffic. Our review is thus a mixed bag. It is a pretty spot, especially the beach, but the campground is not as nice as I expected nor in as private a spot as I would like. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. Our site this time was very spacious because of the landscaping. We enjoy walking and riding our bikes to the beach. We were able to get mail at the campstore. However, there was a sign indicating it would close at the end of the year so not sure how that will work going forward. We have very mixed feelings on this state park. It is decent enough with most sites having plenty of privacy, but there are a lot of sites (crowded) and are pretty close together. I'd say if you like staying in "resorts", then you'll like this park. If you like staying in state parks for the larger sites, and fewer people, you'll be disappointed. There are several walking and biking trails that are very nice though. My biggest complaint is the price they charge. We paid $659 for two weeks which is highest we have ever paid for a state park, and in our opinion, it just wasn't worth it. Florida has way too many beautiful state parks with excellent camping to stay here again. It rained a lot while we were here. Drainage is surprisingly good, although still lots of standing water. Lots of sites have broken up and uneven asphalt. Good Verizon data coverage, tree cover prevented satellite reception. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.
