This state park used to be a private campground, which explains why the sites are closer together than I would have otherwise hoped for. One of the bathhouses is closed, as is the pool, for a few months because they are redoing a number of the sites. The sites are in need of improvement, but it is disappointing that only one bathhouse is open for the high number of sites (150?). Each site is a full hookup, however, so that reduces demand somewhat. As another reviewer commented, many of the concrete slabs are in very rough shape. The one we are in (#71) is so cracked that if our RV were any shorter, we might have had trouble getting level. Hopefully they will continue renovating the sites (replacing the concrete pads with crushed stone it seems) so that the cracked pads will not be a problem in the future. There are some large sites and some pull-throughs, but the majority are back-in. There are also a number of sites that are in sun, but many are in shade. Cable is available but is on and off, perhaps having to do with the construction. The beach is the draw here and is truly lovely. It is about 3/4 of a mile from most sites, and easily reached via walking, biking, or taking the tram which departs from the campground every hour. There are also a number of nature trails and bike trails. The main road - Route 98 - is very busy, especially heading west to Destin. The good thing is that you could probably find anything you wanted here; the bad is that the traffic is really heavy. There is also road construction going on which helps to snarl traffic. Our review is thus a mixed bag. It is a pretty spot, especially the beach, but the campground is not as nice as I expected nor in as private a spot as I would like. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. Our site this time was very spacious because of the landscaping. We enjoy walking and riding our bikes to the beach. We were able to get mail at the campstore. However, there was a sign indicating it would close at the end of the year so not sure how that will work going forward. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Great campground and staff. We had a pull through site with lots of shade. Cable tv along with full hookups and wifi available at the camp store. Tram service to beach was punctual. Good verizon coverage and tons of things to do around the area along with restaurants. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We have very mixed feelings on this state park. It is decent enough with most sites having plenty of privacy, but there are a lot of sites (crowded) and are pretty close together. I'd say if you like staying in "resorts", then you'll like this park. If you like staying in state parks for the larger sites, and fewer people, you'll be disappointed. There are several walking and biking trails that are very nice though. My biggest complaint is the price they charge. We paid $659 for two weeks which is highest we have ever paid for a state park, and in our opinion, it just wasn't worth it. Florida has way too many beautiful state parks with excellent camping to stay here again. It rained a lot while we were here. Drainage is surprisingly good, although still lots of standing water. Lots of sites have broken up and uneven asphalt. Good Verizon data coverage, tree cover prevented satellite reception. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

This park is gorgeous! It is full of mature trees to provide privacy between RV sites, it’s clean, and well maintained. It’s location along the 30A bike trail allowed hours of biking to restaurants and a healthy way to take in the areas sites. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of the nicest state parks for rv camping in the entire state. The sites are either concrete pads with patio or gravel. They even have cable tv. The beach is beautiful. The staff of park volunteers do an excellent job of keeping the park clean. However, they do need to do better job of getting rid of fire ant hills. I had to switch sites during my stay and did have an ant issue. The sites are very private with lots of trees and shrubs. The first site was five stars and the second I gave four stars due to the ant issue. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Florida's Crown Jewel Park has lost some of its shine. The lower number sites are in need of repaving. Many are dangerous from the pine tree roots uprooting the pavement. Instead of repaving the state is replacing with a large crusher run. Thats hard on your feet and your dog's feet. The bathhouses are showing age and missing some basic maintenance. We are loyal visitors and come here for the beach and friends. The pool is just the right size, the camp store is well stocked for an ice cream craving. There is a Walmart close by if you need something. A short drive to 30A for some of the finer dining and shopping. The beach is a fisherman's dream. Hook up your fishing cart and get on your bike for a quick ride to the beach. We love the bike ride to the beach. Topsail has three Dune Lakes that are a must for any hiker. Dune Lakes are only found in Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, Oregon and Walton County, Florida. Fuller Lake and the Coffeen Nature Preserve is worth the hike. We love this park and will return. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Travel Trailer.

Only a mile to the beach by foot or a quick 5 minute trolley tour. Park was more of a community feel than most state parks are. Our site pad was in desperate need of repair with a broken concrete pad. Not much privacy between campsites. It's all about the white sandy beaches here. No camp fire ring unless you bring your own. Thankfully there was a parking lot to put the tow dolly since there is no room at the site. Park is close to all the creatures of home, Publix, Walmart, Acme Oyster House! The beach! Perfect location to spend a day at the beach, convenient and close by. Go to Seaside to walk around and grab a bite to eat, travel to Santa Rosa Beach and Grayton Beach for a bite to eat at the RED BAR! Worth the wait! Local restaurants are pricey and touristy.

Been a while since I had been there, but it is still as nice as it use to be. Campsites are shady. Don't know you are at a beach !! You are in a pine forest, but get on your bike or use the tram that brings you to the beach and suddenly you are at a private sugar sand beach. They also have a secluded lake you can rent canoes or kayaks on. Also, they rent paddle boards and kayaks at the ocean. I rented a kayak at the ocean when it was flat and paddled all over beautiful clear deep water !! Had a great week !!! We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice campground. Our site was spacious and separated by plenty of vegetation. No golf carts driving around, just people walking or on bicycles. The beach was not as crowded as Panama City or Destin. I definitely recommend this park. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

This is definitely a great place to camp. We camped at site 164, a back in. Cement pad, picnic table, full hookup, including cable. Our verizon signal was 3 bars for our hot spot. Excellent shade. The volunteers running the park are outstanding ! Polite, pleasant, professional. Addn'l parking spaces are available if needed. The beach here is a notch over anything we've seen (and we come from a great beach in Saint Augustine). The shuttle runs every 1/2 hr and couldn't be more convenient. You can transport your tent, chairs, etc w/o a problem. The sand is like sugar and the water is delightful. This place is definitely a keeper; just wish it were easier to get in because it's so popular; but that's what happens when you have a great product ! Tips for other Campers:

Route 30 A (the road Topsail in on) is a delightful ride; about 17 miles long. Every few miles there is another housing development each with its own shopping area to walk around in. "Shunk Gully" restaurant just a few miles down from Topsail has a great 2nd floor looking out over the water. We sat at the bar; once for dinner and once for lunch. Good food, friendly bar people. Recommended.

This is a great state park, maybe because it used to be a private RV Resort before becoming a state park. It has a pool, shuffleboard, horse shoes. a great laundry room. good clean bathrooms, and did I mention, probably one of the nicest beaches any where. Almost all of the site will accommodate a large class A motor home, and are a mix of concrete or pea gravel. Some are shady and some are open. It is hard to get in, as this is a very popular park, and they have a lot of volunteers here that take up a lot of the sites. When we were there, we were told that there were 45 volunteers staying in the park. The beach is probably 3/4 of a mile from the campground, they offer a tram to take people to the beach. You can also walk or bicycle to the beach. This is our second stay here, and it won't be our last. We have already made reservations for November on our return trip. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Another wonderful stay at this gem of a state park. Sites become available 11 months before your stay and go very quickly. We were in loop 103 which features sites that are very private. A quick walk to the shuttle stop to get to the boardwalk to the beautiful white sand beach. When we were there the shuttles were starting at 9:00 and ending at 7:30. The shuttle driver checked to make sure that everyone that wanted a ride back to the campground after watching the sunset was given a ride. This was appreciated. Goatfeathers is a great space for lunch. Under $10 for a Goatfeathers salad and 1/2 shrimp po'boy. The Blue Angels practice Tuesday and Wednesday at Pensacola NAS March to November. Allow at least 2.5 hours to get there, thru security and walk out to the viewing area. Set your GPS to the West Gate.

We love this park. To be able to camp in a beautiful yet rustic setting this near the gulf is awesome. They have been slowly improving some of the older sites since our last visit 3 years ago, removing some of the broken up concrete with level crushed rock. We enjoyed daily walks on the beach and biking around the area. Park rangers are very helpful. This is a great state park. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.
