Nice little campground. Needs some upgrades in bathrooms. At the very least a few box fans. It makes no sense to take a shower if as soon as you turn the water off you are pouring sweat again. It is so stuffy and no air moving in there it is almost miserable. The site host is very helpful and even woke up at 3:30am when we arrived to assist us in backing in in the dark. He is older though and probably needs help maintaining the grounds. There is a lot of grass to be cut. The camp sites are grass and needing cutting. Grass was ankle to calf deep which made for a lot of flies and biting insects. - CrazyCatfish
Feb 2017 - $14.00
Lovely county-run campground. First-come, first-served; pick a site and camp host will collect your fee. Pretty good shade with most sites on small hill overlooking pond connected to the Dead Lakes (boat ramp to lake nearby). Sites around edges are back-in; sites in the middle of the hill are pull-through. Most sites 30 amp, but a few back-in 50 amp sites are available. They tend to go first. Dump station on way out. Two washers and two dryers in comfort station building (cold-water only). Good OTA TV reception and decent Verizon signal. - aowcarol
Oct 2016 - $14.00
A nice little county park with about 20 some sites. There are back in sites along the perimeter and pull thru sites in the interior. They are mostly all grass sites and some will need leveling. There is a permanent camp host on site. No reservations are taken, but there is usually plenty to pick from. Just pull into the site you want and the host will come around to get your money. There is a laundry available. The bathrooms, while clean, could use some upgrading. There are several dedicated tent sites also. There are two large ponds with long docks for fishing and also a boat launch. Also a nice playground for the kids. Firewood is available for purchase. There's a small nature trail, but if you're just looking for a relaxing place to do nothing, then this is a good one! - Southern Yankee

Rustic Sands is the better of the two options in outstanding Mexico Beach. MB still remains up in the top tier of our favorite FL stops. Our site was level, mostly shaded with 50 amp full hookups. All were excellent. No cable, but a few good OTA TV stations. It was nice to see the laundry room had been cleaned since our last visit. Nice improvements were also make inside the clubhouse. We will be back. - Bob and Inga
Jun 2018 - $59.00
We had been staying in Panama City Beach for a while and decided to head down to Mexico Beach, as we were told how beautiful it is. My brother-in-law chose Rustic Sands because it was a Passport America park and the initial advertising was for $26.00 a night. We didn't read the fine print as that price was a winter rate. The price ended being $53.00 a night and $3 for each additional person. There were four of us, so it cost us $59.00. There aren't a lot of places to choose from in Mexico Beach, which is probably why then can get away with charging so much. We parked on dirt/grass, no patio, the showers were small and awful and there was only one dressing area that the two showers shared. WiFi was awful, and the cable was out at our site. The pool was in pretty good shape and there was a bar, beer and wine only, with music at night. We were going to stay for four nights and left after one and went back to Panama City Beach. We won't be staying there again. - Living the Life
Apr 2018 - $24.00
Nice wooded sites. Park personnel were very friendly and helpful. The pool was very nice, but not heated. They have a pizza grill at the clubhouse by the pool. The pizza was pretty good. Sites were grass/dirt, but not messy. Good places the walk the dogs around the park. Very close to the beach and places to eat. Really enjoyed the campground and the area. - steveNdonna

Beware! Before you book your RV site insist on getting to policies emailed to you BEFORE you give them a credit card. They will not refund your money or allow you to camp there as make up days under ANY circumstances including a HURRICANE WATCH. If you have a driving RV without a car and leave your site without notifying them they can and will re rent your site (and keep your money). We asked to use our 2 extra days we prepaid for on our return from hurricane evacuation and they flat out said NO! Their other policies include no cleaning of fish at your site and no disposal of fish guts in their dumpster. If you do not clean the bath house they will close it. They point out that as an RV park they are not required to offer one. Management is great on the phone but VERY RUDE once you get there. There are permanent campers that store a lot of "stuff" outside which junks up the campground. No one from management directed the residents to put things away when the hurricane was coming. Biting flies were a bother. Should you choose to stay you will find rather narrow spots with gravel. A small picnic table which is adequate for 4 people. It is right across the street from the beach and you do have access to a hotel pool on the beach as well. You can also rent wave runners at the beach which is a plus. I did not use the bath house so I can't comment. - Brenda Lloyd
Feb 2017 - $36.00
The management of this park is awful. We had originally booked for a month but when we arrived, we immediately decided that we didn't want to stay the entire month. She was very hostile and down right mean. She will lie to you to get you in there and then charge you the entire stay even if you decide to leave early. I understand charging for the time you booked but there is no cancellation fee or anything. I was SUPPOSED to get a welcome card in the mail that I never received telling me about the cancellation policy. The park was clean and is in a great location but the management made our stay forced. I would go back under different management. - jk13zplace

As in most campgrounds, the showers and restrooms could use some cosmetics. There was a 10-15 acre lake with decent fishing. Host was a big help in all areas of interest. Grounds were well kept. - Philtoole
Jun 2018 - $20.00
Spacious sites in a forested remote setting. Bring plenty of bug spray. A few TV stations were our only link to the outside world. - HikerBoricua
Dec 2016 - $10.00
Arrived to find they had no record of my reservation and another camper was occupying my site. The host was not professional like other federal parks. She wasn't even wearing shoes. People are clearly living out of this park. Beer cans and trash around.
Lot spacing was very close. Mostly shady dirt sites.
Everything was odd. Seems like a good place to get hyjacked or ambushed. I warned you. - My camp reviews

The park was well kept and cared for. Green strips of grass between each site. Hosts called me the day before to give me the WiFi password and answer any questions which was good because we arrived late. The pool was clean and inviting. The bathrooms were spotless with good water pressure. We were only there two nights and didn't use the laundry facilities or game room. The view was stunning. Totally worth the trip and had a great time camping with my sister and kiddos. Would not hesitate to return. - Spirit of Adventure
Apr 2018 - $50.00
This is a newly renovated rv park and marina. It's directly on the gulf of Mexico with beautiful western exposure and beautiful sunsets. Everything is new. The sites, buildings, pool, marina, you name it. The sites are decently level and has decent room between RVs. All of the utilities worked as expected. For a fishing/boating park, this place is great. We easily launched our kayaks at their marina. We would recommend staying here. - rick r
Mar 2018 - $68.00
Sits directly on the bay, views are nice. Sites are level, but narrow. Park visitors appeared to include snow birds, families, and fishermen. I'm sure supply and demand dictated price, but I thought it was excessively expensive for the facilities provided. (Price listed includes tax; I divided my cost by the number of days that I stayed.) - Sadiesmom

If you want miles of white sand beaches to walk on without seeing hardly a soul and wild rolling Gulf coast surf, this is the place for you. It is a long narrow peninsula with miles and miles of beach. Another nice feature is there are elevated boardwalks to the beach and between the campsites behind dunes. The campsites are packed white sand. This park is a well loved and oft visited one so reservations are in order. We got lucky and got the last possible site available for two nights without a reservation. The roads are narrow and the campsites are a bit tricky to get in and out of. Some are nicely spaced and private but ours was right on top of our neighbours and our slide out was almost touching the next site's tents. We had rolling surf to serenade us at night along with three owls hooting to each other which was so pleasant. We saw snowy egrets, great blue herons and many other birds. And of course we took long long walks on the beach. - Judy Birchland

Jan 2017 - $24.00
Stayed here for 3 nites in Jan 2017. It was unseasonably cold and very windy. Check in was very efficient. Sites are well marked and we found #30, the one we had reserved. It was very narrow with two pine trees on either side. It was quite a chore getting in. My truck and trailer total 35 ft in length. The nose of my truck stuck out into the roadway by about a foot so I had to unhitch. We saw several other sites that are very shallow. Of course they have no wifi or cable but we knew that up front. Restrooms were the best I have ever seen in an RV park. Very clean, good hot water pressure. - 70 Nole

Lots of wildlife! We saw many different birds, some rodents, deer, crabs, dolphins, reptiles, and more. Our toddler loved going to the beach on the gulf and my husband enjoyed scalloping in the bay. I enjoyed the peace and quite. - PoppyPopUp

St. Joseph Peninsula SP has two campgrounds, the older Gulf Breeze and the newer Shady Pines. On this trip, we stayed in both. Shady Pines is definitely our favorite of the two, although Gulf Breeze is closer to the beach. Shady Pines has more vegetation (although they had just done a prescribed burn the month before we were there and the effects were still very visible.) The comfort stations are both nice, clean and well maintained. Gulf Breeze shows its age, as the sites are very close together and there's not much vegetation between sites, especially the interior sites. One of the comfort stations is old and pretty shabby, but clean. The other is very nice, and looks new. We had a good 4G LTE signal from AT&T in both campgrounds. The park itself is about a half hour from Port St. Joe and there are only a couple of convenience stores closer to the park, so stock up on necessities before entering the park. - Indybear
Jan 2018 - $24.00
I found the previous reviews to be accurate. The Shady Pines section has the best sites overall, but the Gulf Breeze sections has some good ones too, especially if it's cool or cold. (It got below freezing on our last visit.) The worst thing about this campground is the lack of completeness. The potential is limitless. The beach is amazing and easily accessed. People who like beaches will love the isolated and pristine feel of the park's beaches, but the campground itself falls just a tad short of perfect. It's an unpolished diamond. Eliminate the old bathhouse and some cramped and/or low privacy campsites and this place would be my new standard of campground perfection. (So close, yet so far.) Given the price, one shouldn't complain, but if they did the things I suggest, I would pay double or more to camp there. (Unfortunately, so would millions of other RV'ers, so I probably would never get back in. Like the state park campgrounds in the Key's that I can never reserve. ) - jerry6
