Lovely COE campground. Our site - #7 - was level and next to the lake. It is close to the swimming beach which makes it convenient for that but somewhat noisy. Our site was spacious with reasonable spacing to the sites on either side. Some sites in the campground are huge. Bathhouse was a bit of a hike away and somewhat dated / worn though clean. No hosts nor amenities such as firewood or ice though there is a convenience store within six miles and larger stores and restaurants within 10-15 miles. Easy 30 minute drive to Augusta. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Travel Trailer.

The view was beautiful but could not be enjoyed due to the ant infestation at our site. Our trailer was invaded. The bathhouse needs to be updated with more than one shower and really, really needs ventilation to remove the humid air. They need fans to pull out the hot air. It was like being in a sauna when you used the bathhouse. This is not a campground we will be returning to. The campground host were fabulous though. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is the largest COE campground in Georgia and is very popular with the locals. Reserve your site carefully, as some sites have steep descents to the actual camping location. Power and water is on the wrong side of your rig or trailer. Sites are small but well spaced. If you opt for a pull-through site be prepared to handle the steep descent and steep ascents from the camping spot. Campground roads are paved, but descents and ascents from camping spots are loose stone. Difficult for tow vehicle tires to get a grip. Because of this we will not return. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Travel Trailer.

This park is outstanding! Very spacious campsites, many pull-through...Some sites are on the water others have a water view. Restrooms and showers are clean. Very quiet and inviting. No Wi-Fi or sewer on site. Verizon was very good. Too many trees for my satellite but did pick up some local channels. Will return! We camped at Petersburg COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I found the Park Attendants very friendly and helpful. When I arrived I let them know it was my first time camping, and they came and checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying our stay. They took the time to let us know about a senior pass that would save us money at Government camp grounds. The site was beautiful and well maintained, with shower, restrooms, laundry, and playground a short walk from the site. Can't wait to return. There is also a beautiful single track trail for us mountain bikers. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Beautiful Lake, Evans GA is about 15 miles away. Fairly remote. Mountain Biking, Hiking, great lake with thousands of miles of shoreline. Campsites are fairly separated in most instance.

Beautiful CG on J. Strom Thurmond Lake near Augusta. I would have rated it a 10 if it had sewer hook-up, but it's a COE campground so no surprise. GPS coming from South Carolina took me out of the way. If you come up 104 from the interstate be aware of road construction. They are widening the road. We stayed here 3 nights, it is definitely off the beaten path, which is a plus for the most part. The section we were in was definitely not big rig friendly. Utilities were good and proximity of our site to the boat ramp worked out well. A few OTA tv signals and a couple of bars of Verizon 4G. We would not stay here again if back in the area, since we know the other camping options available. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Travel Trailer.

What a delightful Corp of Engineer campground! It's off the beaten track but well worth the drive. I'd check directions before going though because we got lost. Check-in was a little hectic as the gentleman helping the couple before us was having problems with the computer. Which normally wouldn't be a problem but we were trying to snag one spot of the two left before someone reserved it online. All the sites are huge. Most are on the water or at least have a little view of it. You can see neighbors but there are trees between all the sites so you have privacy. Some of the sites are tricky to get into (especially for a motorhome) as they drop off pretty quickly at the front. Sites have 30/50 amp and water and a dump is available. Nice roads for biking/walking/jogging. Weekends seem to be busy with lots of boats out on the water. We would definitely stay here again. We stayed here in a motorhome. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Motorhome.

Large gravel sites with ample gravel lounge area including picnic table, fire ring, grill, and lantern holder. Lots of mature shade trees. Our site was one of the few hilltop sites with little view of the lake but most others are adjacent to the lake shore. Good separation between sites. Restrooms are clean and functional. In other words, a typically excellent Corps of Engineers campground at an affordable price. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Truck Camper.

Love, Love, Love this place!! We are new to camping in a travel trailer, and this was the first time we had gone out in our unit. We have a 28 foot toy hauler, and we had absolutely no problems getting into the site. We opted for a pull-thru and were right next to the lake, as most sites are waterfront. The sites are private and spacious. We chose this campground because of the accessibility to the mountain bike trails (trailhead is located right outside of the main gate). Bath houses are clean with lots of hot water. Beautiful place, great mountain biking, couldn't ask for anything more from them. Cannot wait to go back!!!!! Outstanding Campground! Site we had was HUGE, and not close to neighboring sites, felt like we had the campground all to ourselves. Water and electric hookups were good. Had reservation for one night, but liked our site and the campground so much, we stayed two more nights. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Motorhome.

Like most COE CGs, very nice. Sr rate of $13, well paved roads, widely spaced huge gravel-sand sites with nice table and mostly level. Right on the lake views. Bathhouse clean. Wooded. The CG follows the hills about the lakeshore and is up and down hilly so not good for biking or elderly walkers. Several miles to the Thurmond dam and COE vistor centers with history of the building of the dam and its value to the area in flood control, recreations, and electrical power. The entire Thurmond lake area has an incredible number of recreational opportunities; like 13 COE CGs, 6 state parks, 7 county parks, 3 US Forest Serevice, and 6 marinas, plus 23 day use and boat ramp areas. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park, spacious sites, registration board says this site, #56 can only accept 30'. We are 38' Class A w/toad and there was still room for another rig on our site. We visited in October, so not may people there. Water/electric only, but sewer dump easy in/out and no charge. Park attendants were very helpful. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Motorhome.

This is our second time staying at this park, it is beautiful. We had a lakeside full hookup site with great views and abundant wildlife. The staff is friendly and helpful. We have a 37' 5th wheel and had no trouble maneuvering in the park. Recommend coming in via route 150 from I-20 instead of going through town. There was too much traffic, tight turns and traffic lights coming through town. Route 150 is a nice easy and smooth ride to the park. We camped at Petersburg COE in a Fifth Wheel.
