Overall Rating:

We stayed four nights in a 40 foot fifth wheel. This is one of the first state parks in the Georgia system and is very well maintained and has modern amenities. The restrooms were fantastic with private unisex stalls with showers and restroom facilities. The park has many cabins both at the lake, in the woods and on the hills. There are also very nice group facilities. I relay this to tell you that the weekends here are quite busy. We are in a big fifth wheel. Access into the park from the north requires a hard right followed immediately by a hard left. If there is any traffic in the queue coming out of the park...wait for it to clear. Navigation inside the park is also troubling with tight turns, heave and close tree coverage, confusing one-way roads, and odd site placement. If you are in a larger rig, I believe you would be well served by reserving sites in the southern area sites 31-61. If we return, we would love to stay up in this loop along the creek. Do NOT take the road up toward site 31 as the turn around loops is very narrow. I called the park to request help with selecting among four sites that I was interested in. The park office recommended Site 4 a corner pull-thru. I asked and was assured that the patio/door side was not on the street. The approach to this site was impossible w/o going against one-way traffic and the site patio was on the intersection of two busy roads. This is not a good site for anybody and is a terrible site for a large camper. The hiking trail around the lake and to the face of the falls was really nice. The CCC museum was quite interesting and there was a knowledgeable docent to lead you around. So, in summary, we liked the State Park but we hated our site. They advised that the campground was full so we did not ask to move. However, we saw many open spaces and did not see why we could not have moved. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful state park about 20-30 minutes from Helen, GA (depending on the route you take). The park has both back-in and pull through sites, but most pull throughs look like they would not accommodate a large motorhome. The park is a little tight but we managed just fine in a 38 foot class A. We were in site 47 which was close to level and plenty large enough for the motorhome and toad. Unhook your toad at the Visitor's Center. All sites have only 30 amp service, and our water pressure was so low we disconnected and used onboard water. We had to TV reception and very week Verizon cell service. Wi-fi at the Visitor's Center is good. We would stay here again. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Alpine Helen and eat at the Troll Tavern. We also ate at the International Cafe, but the food and service were not as good as at the tavern. Anna Ruby Falls is worth the short uphill hike (on a paved pathway). Drive up to Brasstown Bald; the view is amazing. The Blue Ridge Scenic RR is not worth the $55 per person cost. It's not really very scenic. If you are headed to I-75 South when you leave, US 64 is a beautiful, but slow, drive.

Wonderful State Park with sites with some privacy. Lots of tree cover and some sites are near the creek. Bathrooms were very clean. Interior roads are asphalt and in good shape. Fire ring at each site. Electric, water but no sewer hookups at each site. Lots of hiking trails nearby including the World Famous Appalachian Trail and plentiful waterfalls within a short drive. Mountain Crossings, a hiker/biker outfitter hangout at Neel Gap is just up the road. I actually stayed at a tent only site as well as in my RV and also one of the cottages here. All were great! We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful State Park with roomy shaded sites, many of which are creek-side. A large lake for fishing and swimming is at the front of the park and it offers canoe and paddle boat rentals. Lots to do on-site such as walking trails, hiking and fishing, playgrounds and a Conservation Corps museum. Trahlyta Falls is an easy walking path, and the park also offers nice cabin rentals. There are no sewer hook-up, but it does have an easy access dump station. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Vogel State Park located 11 miles south of Blairsville, GA in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This park is beautiful and reminds me of NH's Franconia Notch area except it is about 15 miles longer. Hilly, curvy, winding roads to get here on a narrow road with not much buffer. The park was built by the CCC and it is one of GA's oldest state parks so many of the sites are not level but the bathhouses are being remodeled and they are great. Lots of tenters and hikers since the Appalachian Trail goes through this park. Many hiking trails, waterfalls and views of the mountains. The park surrounds Lake Trahlyta. There is a nice hiking trail around it with a beach and boating area for rentals. Lots of Indian history in the area and it is considered one of the richest areas on Earth. The campground has miniature golf, playgrounds and a fitness area. It is a beautiful place to stay even though the drive in is like a Disney roller coaster. GA State parks now charge a $5 vehicle tax even for your RV when you don't tow. It wipes out the Sunday-Thursday senior discount. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Motorhome.

If you are passing through this beautiful Georgia mountain area, give yourself a treat and stay at Vogel for 2-3 days. Beautiful setting with a lake and several excellent hiking trails. 30A service, water but no sewer connections. Sites are spacious and several new bathrooms are being constructed. Our 40-foot site could handle a 45-foot unit. No TV and satellite will not work because you are in a forest. Groceries and fuel a good drive away. Come prepared. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed for five nights with our family, mid-week, at this campground. Really lovely area in general, with several hiking trails of varying difficulty leaving from the park and the AT and other loops in the general area. Park itself has many facilities, including a large number of cabins, a small museum, and a swimming area. The Laundry facility is not located in the campground, but instead at the visitors center. Visitors Center staff was helpful. The campground is nestled in a creek valley with towering hemlocks, and a quiet and lovely setting. Unfortunately, most of the bathrooms were under construction while we were there, which made for cold bathroom visits on the port-a-potties. I am not sure if they have more maintenance staff because of all the cabins, but this is the first Georgia Park where I saw really inefficient work; I saw several State Park staff loitering around the half-finished bathrooms, but saw very little actual work being done on the bathrooms. I was thinking that they might be in more of a rush with more than half of the bathrooms out of service in the campground. Our original reserved site (#12) was rated for a forty foot trailers, but was not accessible via the road design and angles, so I had to move to site #30, which was much more accommodating. The electrical hookup was sketchy, missing the flap and the pedestal sitting in a pool of water. Some pedestals seemed brand new, other in similar shape as ours. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful park in the Georgia mountains with a nice small lake. Sites were nicely spread apart and pretty level. Nice stream running through the campground with a few sites right on the water. Interior roads were good but a little on the tight side. Typical of most state parks. Great hiking from right in the park and close by. We had one bar of cell service at our site with AT&T and it was spotty. Phones didn't work at the sites farther in but fine at camp store. Only 11 miles outside Blairsville with plenty amenities. Traveling south from Blairsville on 19 to the park is an easier drive than northbound on 19. Less hills and curves. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Motorhome.

We really loved this park and so did our grandchildren, there is so much to do. The park grounds are very well maintained, all of the staff was friendly and helpful. The cell service was in & out and we got no OTA tv. The roads are very winding but in good shape. The only negative's I will say is that the Putt Putt golf was higher than some of the other state parks and the bath house's could use some updating. We will visit this park again. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a wonderful park this was! We were on site 82 with our 25 ft travel trailer. This upper Loop is reserved for tents, pop-ups and vans only ( stated on a big sign). The interior road to get to the upper loop is pretty windy and narrow, but we pulled our camper up without a problem. Some of the sites are pretty small, but 82 was plenty long for our camper and truck. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The park is beautiful. There is a stream that runs through the campground that my girls loved walking in and playing in. The lake is clean and the water temp was perfect for a hot summer day. The sites are very close together and hard for a larger rig to move through. But the park is totally worth the effort. Hiking, swimming, boating. Would be perfect if sites had sewer. But the bathrooms were clean and close. We will be back for sure. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

One of our favorite places to camp. We had site 65 which is in the tent/ popup. shorter trailer area. Large site with lots of room and no one on one side. Hike up hill to bathhouse but walkable unless health issues. Vogel now site specific so that really helps. Many great sites for all types of rigs. Bath houses clean. Many campground hosts scattered around campground. The campground was full but no issues. Road has noise in daytime since huge motorcycle ride place, but nothing at night. Creek sites help that issue. Small lake with paddle boards, peddle boats, kayak, etc. rental. Also put-put and hiking trails. Waterfall on property and many others close. Couple of playgrounds and small open ball field. Lots to do for all ages. Excellent place for family reunions with many choices to reserve. Also have some cottages. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We went with some friends who got spot R and setup their tents and somehow it was double booked and they ended up kicking us off even though we were setup on there already. Odd situation. We have a 35 foot "pull through" and it was a wierd pull through because of the way the center landscaping was. I ended up actually having to back out because the turn area wasn't large enough. Wierd setup. I'd camp there again but probably in a different spot. Campground had the sound of motorcycle idiots all day on the road outside. Love being near the creek though. We would camp there again. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Motorhome.

You can now reserve a site. Over the winter the staff has done lots of upgrades and improvements throughout the park. New rails and decks on cabins, new retaining structures and rails on several RV sites and most RV sites have been graded and gravel added. One creek sites are $36 and the remainder of RV sites are $34. State parks offer a 20% discount if your over 62 ( proof) on sites so only apply a deposit when booking site so that you get your discount when you check in.
