We made an overnight stop here on our way to Indiana. This park is conveniently located north of Atlanta in the Marietta/Kennesaw area. Lots of shopping/restaurants nearby. It is an older park that could use some updates - the asphalt park roads are pretty cracked and uneven in areas from the trees, and the buildings are showing their age some. I will say they have a nice, air conditioned bathroom setup with two toilet and shower combination rooms - shower suites - which are kept pretty clean. The showers have a "rainfall" shower head in an extra large, tiled shower area. The shower suites are located in the same air conditioned building as the laundromat, next to the office. Our site was slightly sloping to the front, as the whole park is situated in a hilly area. Even though the sites are rather close together, it was pretty easy to get in and out of our site. It was a good overnight stop, overall. - Maga04

Parked our 5th here for overflow family visiting from out of town. According to them everything was fine and they had no issues of any kind. Was assigned Site 11 ( back in) which was mostly level. No issues with any hook ups. Couple of RV parked in there that looked abandon, at a minimum they need to be washed once a year. Overall appearance was O.K. but I think with some minor refurbish this would be an excellent place. Staff was very friendly. - Joelbjr

This is a very small back in park in the woods. Most spots are long term TT and fifth wheels. Ok for a quick overnight. Not much walking area for dogs. No fenced in dog park. - KMK

Disclaimer: I was in town for a family gathering and wanted to check out this park out so I stopped by. My first stop was the MWR office. The excellent value rating is the price. There are a lot of services available at this office, unfortunately, caring that there was an RV park on-site wasn't one of them. The young lady answered my questions but couldn't provide a map or brochure for the park. She also wouldn't take reservations either...call first before coming here! I got directions to the park and headed out. There is a sign at the entrance for new arrivals. Step 1, pick a spot. Step 2 check in at the office. Too bad there aren't any empty spots. One possible spot had somebody's car in it. Very heavy tree cover throughout. The road is narrow and trees are close. Every occupied spot had evidence of long-term occupation; semi-permanent steps, PVC poo pipes, fences and in one case a lawn! Yep, a honest-to-goodness real grass lawn! To his credit he had a sign for the "FAMCAMP spot of the month"!! I think that since this is a reserve base the rules may be different as far as long term/permanent party occupation of the FAMCAMP. I don't think we'll stop here. Good Luck! - CGRetired

I agree with the other camper who said not to bother. We have camped at several military campgrounds and have always had a good experience. This is an exception to those other campgrounds. First we called the office number numerous times on different days and got a recording, left messages for call back and nothing. 3 hours before we arrived we called the office# and finally a woman answered and said there were 5 open sites. We arrived to find one site taped off with yellow caution tape, another site with a van parked off to the side in the woods but no vehicle on the pad. We pulled out and parked in parking area in front of the office hut and husband called base security to ask if it was OK to dry camp for the night. He was told to go to a building and check in which he did but guy in office had no idea why he was told that! Husband came back and drove back into campground to look at the site where van was parked and another camper told him the owner takes his rig out and is gone for days meaning site is not paid for but discourages someone from using it. We paid and used the site for the night. The remaining sites were occupied by long term people but not all workers. 1 retiree had been there since October so 2 week rule not in-forced. Another site had a 35' motorhome, 30' tow trailer, the truck to haul the trailer and 3 cars. Another site had a portable garage frame with tarp setup in front of the trailer. I would dry camp in a Walmart parking lot before returning here. - petpeople

Nice park with several sites available but the bathrooms, specifically the men's was atrocious. One toilet was severely messed up and wasn't cleaned for two days! The women's was fine and I had no problem. A few sites were 50' long and nicely separated from your neighbor. Quiet and nice park. There is a little bar that is busy during the week. Our neighbor, Jeff, who is responsible in some fashion there, was extremely helpful when we were concerned about getting to the dump station in the morning - someone was parked there and he made sure they moved. The biggest issue we had was on our departure GATE 2 (which is the only RV accessible gate) is closed on the weekends, which we did not know!! Luckily for us the security spotted us heading for the exit and flagged us down to wait while he brought someone up to open up the gate for us. So it all worked out fine, but if you're planning on arriving or leaving on the weekend you should call first to find out the proper procedure. We camped here in a motorhome. - Bill & Debby's Wild Ride

ADMIN NOTE (February 2017): It has been reported that this park is now only open to event participants.
NOTE (October 2015): THE RENOVATIONS PLANNED FOR THE SUMMER OF 2015 DID NOT OCCUR, BUT ARE NOW UNDERWAY. THIS PARK WILL NOT BE OPEN AGAIN UNTIL EARLY 2016. - ramblin' vagabonds
Dec 2014 - $15.00
April 9, 2015 ADMIN NOTE: The manager of this park has reported to us that the facility (Jim R. Miller Park) is undergoing MAJOR renovations and will not have RV Sites available until AFTER SEPTEMBER 2015.
We were at this park for 16 nights. The rate is $15.00 per night for 1 night or 16- very reasonable. The staff is very helpful. It's one of the Georgia State Fairgrounds, but the campground is separate from the Fairgrounds. It can be quite busy with many police related facilities in the area. There is a police shooting range nearby that can be heard at times. The fairgrounds is also used for many police and ambulance related practices and training. In most cases you would never know it's going on. - dthurk
Aug 2014 - $15.00
Giving this an extra point for being so affordable. One set of restrooms was locked and leaking water under the door. The other wasn't very clean and the trash hadn't been emptied in awhile. Not much to do, BUT it's quiet (if there are no events), pleasant, spacious and HUs work well. Only 1/2 mile to Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park and as convenient to Atlanta as anything else we could find. Enter through Gate 1. Stayed several days and will definitely be back. . - TheRollingJones

This place should be burned to the ground. It's beyond words how bad the infrastructure is. Many sites have power poles that are destroyed or worse, bare wire with electrical tape. The roads are narrow and pothole laden, and the water can range from normal to green slime coming from the water tap. The majority of the guests are monthly renters who have turned this place into a worse than trailer park situation. Avoid at all costs. - cjcoombs
Jun 2015 - $25.00
This is the most horrible park we have ever stayed at. We were wishing that we had just parked in a truck stop for the night. the site was horrible uneven We could not even put our slides out because we could not put down jacks as it was so uneven. They have only 30amp service . Tthis place has some potential but it needs a lot of work to get up to what people want in a RV park . - indian
Aug 2013 - $30.00
This place was beautiful on a lake with water side camp sites. It would be a solid 10 if they would install AC in the restrooms. Paved streets, paved sites, very clean. When it is 95 degrees outside, it is over 100 degrees in the restrooms. Just cool them down and this is a great park. I will be back. - aliner man

There appear to be nice sites here. Made reservation about 2:30 p.m. got the "last drive through site" - #26. (We pull a 35' 5th wheel). It's a miserable site where the RV steps open right up onto an internal road. WiFi weak and variable. The lady who manned the shop was very nice and helpful, so that wasn't any problem. For $50 a night - after Good Sam discount and a $1 discount after I noted the truly questionable site. it's truly the least value place we've been (Central Oregon to Marietta). If this site is the only on offer, skip it. - William Bolitho
Aug 2018 - $55.00
By far the worst experience of our whole trip, 2-night stay. One (1) single shower and rest room functional for 51 sites, muddy water, and when we left the site for a few hours the manager had given it to someone else. - AlfNew
Mar 2018 - $45.00
Definitely a mixed bag. Mostly long term, working folks with a few transient spots. Nice clean new showers and laundry. Sites are a little tight and there is a surplus of mud when it rains. But is is very peaceful and quiet at night (except for train whistles in the distance). Tucked into a residential area with narrow but navigable streets to get in and out. Call for reservations - don't bother with the web site form, it won't be answered. Friendly staff though when you call. Quite expensive for what you get but supply is quite limit near Atlanta. We stayed 3 nights. - MNroadie

Actually I did not stay in this campground. A friend wanted me to check out for him. This place is a REAL DIVE, cars up on blocks, what was left of the road in the campground had huge potholes in it, lots of trash and lots of seasonal RVers with rundown RVs. Overall really run down. I would not recommend anyone staying there. - ETB

We enjoyed our stay at the campground and were able to access and enjoy the lake. The RV site was easy to pull in to. The site was clean with a little trash in the fire ring. We never used the bath house. The dump station was easy to access and return to our site. Our site was one of the most private. You can see the site on one side but the other side was lake. There were two couples who were camp hosts. One couple was very friendly and kind and thorough in explaining any rules. The other couple was completely rude to almost everyone in our party at one time or another. I would rather not deal with people like that. I probably won't go back to Payne campground due to the unkind camp hosts. - Charlie E
Jun 2018 - $14.00
There are beautiful trees everywhere and our site was very quiet. Site 62 has a small slice of a view of the lake but not much shade. The site was level with gravel; there is a "patio area" that is composed of small rocks with a fire pit and lantern pole. There is only one bathhouse in the campground, which doesn't seem enough, however, I never had to wait. The bathrooms are more than adequate for a state campground, while we were there, one of the showers didn't have a shower head, and staff said they would look into it right away. Camp staff was very friendly and helpful. Interior roads are easy to navigate. Verizon worked great and we received a good selection of OTA channels. We would definitely stay again. - Living the Life
May 2018 - $20.00
Stayed in spot #36 with our 40' motorhome. It was an easy pull through. The spot was at the beginning of a little cul-de-sac, which is how most of the loops are here. It would have been a bit tricky to drive around the curve of the cul-de-sac, but it was easy enough to back up. Dump is at the front. Many spots are heavily treed. Ours was not, which we request for satellite. Most spots have views of the lake. It's a very pretty park, lots of birds singing, little walking trails here and there. Verizon signal was good on and off. Very clean, very quiet, cement pad for concrete picnic table, with grill and fire pit off to the side. We loved it here. - dorcol

Nice campground on beautiful lake. All sites are on lake. Asphalt pad. Only negative I have is we woke up in the morning with the inside and outside of our camper covered in thousands of ants (luckily not fire ants). Took a month to get them out of the inside. Told lady at front gate that our site needed to sprayed but she didn't really care. - Bjb1775
Jun 2016 - $18.00
Beautiful campground and all sites are waterfront w/ 50amp & water. Paved somewhat narrow roads but plenty of overhead clearance. Sites are all paved with gravel tent / picnic area and concrete picnic table. Only a few sites are big enough for 36 ft motorhome. A couple of pull throughs but most are back in. Lots of mature trees and our site ( #14) was secluded on it's own private peninsula. - Appleknocker
Jun 2016 - $30.00
Did not have a reservation but was able to get a spot. This is a small wooded campground convenient to I75. We were given a pull-thru site which was not level as it was on a hill, but we managed as we only stayed one night. Since the park is hilly, most of the back-in and pull-thru sites are at different levels but all have a view of lake Allatoona. We had 50A and water, a nice picnic table/ grill, fire ring and spot for a tent. There is a dump station. There were nice large pavilions and clean bathrooms, one with a washer and dryer. Several campers had brought their boats and we saw folks swimming. There is no wifi or cable tv, no amenities. There are only a few big rig sites. Would stay here again, but would make reservations. - mohocamper

Campground is right next I-75 (traffic noise). Sites are spacious, well maintained, sites however are not level: Our side was literally a hill. It was very difficult to back into our site. Very nice scenery as we were next to the lake. - jonk90
Sep 2016 - $15.00
Very convenient for an overnight off of I75. Sites are older but electric has been upgraded. Hosts were very helpful and friendly. Gate is locked after hours with no admission...get home after curfew and you are walking! Some roads and sites were a little tight for our 33ft. Great value with the Access pass. For longer stays we prefer McKinney, which is nearby and is much more peaceful. - tom&kathryn
Jun 2007 - $26.00
Nicely shaded well manicured sites with level pad for outside cooking and or tenting. I-75 does cross over front entrance to park and sites 1 -29 noisy during the day hours. Park attendants are hit or miss regarding hospitality. Some are overly friendly and others are down right mean. We have camped at this park for 7 years now and love the convenience of local new built Publix grocery store on hwy 41 a mere 2.5 miles away. Only major complaint is that front gate is locked at 11:00PM with no exit until 7:00AM. This makes it very tough. They should combination lock the gate. I guess I should be glad for the security right? Some of the lower number sites are small but in no wake cove of lake Alattonna so boats at Blockhouse day use don't jeopardize safety when swimming. The park is controlled by the Army Core Of Engineers Mobil, AL division. Reserve USA is now sub contracted out and what a mess. Much better last season. Ugh!! Anyway nice park and don't let I-75 scare you. Its still very nice and will continue to camp there for years to come. - beech2000

Dec 2016 - $30.00
This is a campground behind the main marina building. While it has a pretty view at the lakeside, it is apparent that the main business is the marina. The entrance/exit gate is difficult to maneuver around because of all the boats and cars that are parked around it. They have a dump "hole" on the right side of the entrance, in front of the parked boats. (hole only-no water and hard to find without the small sign pointing it out.) One way in/out and the roads are extremely small and in poor condition. The site was pretty level but was buried under so many pine needles we could hardly pick out the perimeter. Fire ring, picnic table and grill at the site. No wifi but we got a good signal with Verizon and AT&T. It looks as if they have made a few improvements (laundry room with washers & dryers in the shower building, next to the marina office) but it is still a work in progress. - LizabethC
Oct 2016 - $25.00
A full service marina and campground. We have camped here. We've had a boat here and this summer for the first time we rented a pontoon to take some out of town family out on the lake. The rental was very nice and reliable. We enjoy all aspects of this marina. Very good service and prices. - Mason Moore
Aug 2011 - $35.00
There are so many things wrong with this place. The gate is broken. There is trash everywhere. The restrooms are nasty and supplies are never available. The office manager is a disorganized and very rude person. We paid $600+ for a month and a week which was not recorded properly and I received harassing calls and then when provided the receipts there was no apology just pure rudeness. Also, our window was shot out while we camped there. It was a disaster and NOT WORTH A PENNY! - TNTRVTRAV
