Nice Park about 45 minutes South of Atlanta. We were close to the river. Sites are big rig accessible and level. Check in is on a different road than most of the campsites. Very quiet and sites are roomy. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

The falls are close by and visible with a short hike. A longer hike brings you to a pretty Rock area on the river. A large outlet mall is 15 minutes away.

Overall Rating:

We stayed six nights in a 40' fifth-wheel. We first visited as new RVers in Jan 2014 and said we had to return. Now we did and just love this park. The only reason I didn't give a 10 was because they don't have sewer hookups. Sprint and ATT work fine in RV with booster. Dish worked fine for 2 of 3 satellites but trees blocked others. This was a beautiful time of year to visit with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60-70 range. Trees were just budding out. Plenty of Dogwood, Redbud, Crab Apple flowers on the trees. We had a bird feeders out and had great success with Carolina Wren, Nut Hatch, and Tufted Tit Mouse. We only left the park once and that was to visit Jarrell Plantation. This is a great day trip for a peak into the life of one family who lived and farmed in this area from the 1840s-1960s. We highly recommend a visit. After this visit, drive just four miles down the road to the town of Juliette and visit the Whistle Stop Cafe which was the focus of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The park has a friendly, dedicated, and energetic team of camp hosts who do a great job keeping this park well maintained. The bath houses are always clean and the grounds look great. Sites are mostly 30 amp and the 50 amp sites are all pull-through. We like the "D" loop best with the pull thrus that face south. If you can live with 30 amps, site 56 has a great overlook of the river. In the lakeside camping area site 112 has a great view as does site 111 but 111 is rather short. If you like yurts, those sites are the best in the park with perfect views over the lake. Our site was spacious and had easy access with convenient utilities. They are all like that. Southern exposure puts sun on the door all day which was ok being so cool. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Hike all three of the trails; they are all worth it. The trails are kid and senior (us) friendly. The river trail is perhaps moderate with more up/down hill. Visit Jarrell Plantation and Whistlestop Cafe. Also, Fresh Air BBQ and Falls View Cafe were recommended to us but we ran out of time.

Nice state park just a few minutes from the Freeway. We were there only one night - in space 16 which backed up to the River. There was no OTA, no DISH and poor cell. There is a nice hike on the Tranquility Trail that goes through the forest and gets you access to the cool waterfalls on the river. Park was nice for a one night stop over, but seemed a little dated for a longer stay. A plus was how easy it was to get to/from the Freeway. There was also a Flying J one exit North. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

There are 2 campground locations here. One is the Lake Campground and the other is the River Campground. The Lake Campground is smaller and the sites seem more spacious. Most of the sites did not seem that level in this CG. We stayed in the River CG. The sites were reasonably level and there was decent spacing between the sites. Check in for both CG's is at the same location and easy to drive past like we did. When you pass the Dollar General on the right, the turn in is to the left BEFORE the bridge. If you miss the turn, just turn into the park entrance on the left on the other side of the bridge. This must happen a lot as the gate attendant knew exactly where we needed to go to turn around. When going into the Rivers CG, the road in has a steep section, but not too bad or long. Interior roads are easy to navigate. This is a great place to hike. Indian Springs SP is very close and has additional hiking and once you pay to camp here, Indian Springs is included in the entrance fee. The restrooms/showers are old, but were clean. There is no antenna TV reception here. There might be some in sites 65-85 as they are on higher ground. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you like distilleries, go to River's Distillery in Jackson, GA. The owner was there when we visited and gave us a personal tour. It lasted over an hour as he had all kinds of stories. We've been to a lot of distilleries and they have all been very scripted. Oh, and his aged brandy made with locally grown peaches is great.

The campground is quite nice, situated on the Towaliga River. There are 4 or 5 miles of trails as well as a historic site of an old hydro generating facility to explore. The waterfalls are very pretty. Our site was quiet and relaxing even though the campground was quite full. We had access to go down to the river right off of the site. The road into the campsites was quite steep, but still easily done in an RV. We definitely plan to go back. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a one night stop for us. It seemed a little lacking in signage. We went to the lake section first, a ranger told us we would have to go to the river section. You make a turn by the Dollar General and some more turns and find the camp host for a site. After finding the host, we got a site and all was well. A nice park, very pretty. Would be a place to go back to and explore. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

If you're looking for something fairly near Atlanta but far enough away to be remote, this park is a great selection. The waterfall was beautiful and the sites are shaded and peaceful. The staff was very nice and helpful. This is 1 mile off HWY 75 and very easy to get to. Once inside the park, the hills are steep but still doable in a large rig. The pull thru 50 amp sites were easy to get into fairly well spaced. There's a couple of great but short hikes. Biking it not very feasible unless you want to bike up and down the hills. There's a nice lake here for kayaking and paddle boarding. Site accessibility (The hill into the park was a bit steep and signage for the D loop was non existent but the park was a very easy 1 mile off the hwy) - 4 Campground location (30 minutes to Macon, 45 min to Atlanta) - 5 Nearby amenities (Had to drive 30 minutes to get to anything. The local stores are not good) - 2 Site Privacy (Good spacing on the sites but not a lot of trees/foliage in between) - 3.5 Campground amenities (Average bathrooms, laundry, trash cans easily accessible) - 4 Dog friendly (Dogs allowed on all trails) - 5 Activities (cool hiking around the waterfall but not a lot of trails, kayak rentals, mini golf) - 5 Cost ($35/night for 50 amp/water but no sewer) - 3.5 Staff friendliness (Incredibly friendly staff. Camp hosts were always available and rangers also present) - 5 Connectivity (Good signal IF you have a booster. No ATT signal w/out booster) - 4 Total rating = 4.10. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

We just spent a long weekend at this state park and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The park and park staff were friendly and very helpful. We stayed in the river campground. We arrived around 8pm and had to take one of the few remaining spots, but it turned out well. The sites are very spacious but the roads are tight and large rigs can be hard to maneuver. The bathrooms are very dated but the camp hosts kept them clean and supplied. The hiking trails around the falls are well worth the visit. The falls are simply beautiful. We will be camping again here soon. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We enjoyed this campground and the trail and view of High Falls. The park staff were excellent. It would be rated higher but the men's shower only had cold water and the women's only had hot water. Not sure which was more uncomfortable. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

We were traveling from Florida to Pigeon Forge TN and made a stop over here to split the trip up. This camground was a couple miles off the Interstate with easy access to the campground. We got here after dark and went to the ranger station, which was already closed. Soon the camp host showed up in his golf cart and I followed him to the campground and he picked out a great pull thru site. He let us set up and returned after we had set up camp to check us in and I paid the camp fee. The campground was nice, only about 25% full if that. Camp site had picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The showers were very clean and the water was HOT. We will definately stay here again. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first visit to High Falls. We just bought our first camper. From the front desk to the camp host, everyone was so helpful. Person at the front desk was so kind. Our camp hosts made us feel right at home. They shared so many camping tips to make it a breeze. We had trouble with our battery and they came to our rescue. They treated us like old friends.

The park was great. But these folks were fantastic!! We will definitely come back again. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Check in well marked but not on same road as campsites. Lots of pretty sites. The roads are curvy but passable with big rigs. We had water and 30 amp but no sewer; the dump station is handy on the way out.The 50 amp sites are pull through and less private. Friendly staff. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.
