Located on navy sub base king's Bay. Easy to get through the gate with our big class a providing you use the directions on the DOD lodging website. This park is medium sized and in right on a beautiful lake. The concrete pads look short but are just long enough for a big rig to put down jacks. Hookups were nice, well-positioned and more than adequate. This base is spread out which gives the feeling that there isn't a lot going on. Also, there was a pistol range nearby but hardly bothered us with the noise. This place is quiet and clean and out of the way. I will stay here again. - Beware thyself

Best military rv park of our trip! I can see why it is rated so highly. Free laundry, cable, sewer at site, level concrete pads, thoughtful layout with wide interior road and plenty of turning space, overflow parking with shared utility post (30/50 and water), very nice community center with full kitchen, card room, and lounge area, very nice ladies room/showers with toiletries and air freshener and upholstered benches! Even a community swap shelf for trading over unwanted items to someone else who might find them useful. Nice location on a lake, and the area seems to offer a good amount of supporting business. We'll definitely stay here again! - Tin Can Twosome
Nov 2017 - $20.00
Outstanding! Clean, neat and plenty of room between each site. Free laundry and great facilities. Each site has a concrete pad, patio, fire pit, picnic table and a well kept lawn. The utilities are in a little fenced area surrounded by bushes so they are not unsightly. Whoever designed this RV park was an RVer. It is set up with plenty of room to maneuver, wide roads, large sites. I have nothing bad to say at all. We would go back again and again. - jomark

I usually post reviews after I leave a park and seldom more than one per park. We, however, have a history with this park, our first RV winter 6 years ago and many short and long stays since then. The positive changes we find do not disappoint. The camping area has been opened up in terms of excessive vegetation being removed leaving a nicely landscaped park. The surrounding area has also been cleared leaving plenty of places to walk with or without a pet. Customer service is still first-rate including a weekly pot-luck dinner. Utilities are good and restrooms/laundry are fine. Located on the road that ends at the Crooked River traffic noise is minimal. After 6 years of semi-full time RVing this park is in our top five. - gumper

This place just overflows with southern hospitality! The owner goes out of her way to make you feel welcome making sure the site you have is sufficient for your needs. We are from a colder state so not used to the humidity but my oh my! To us it was the epitome of the south; big trees hanging with moss, crepe myrtle trees in bloom, a lovely pond which warns of alligators and such; the grounds are huge with grassy areas sufficient for walking dogs or just taking a stroll (if the humidity doesn't bother you). A friendly campground tuxedo cat who, if you're not careful, will join you inside your rig. Peaceful and quiet ~ a lovely place to relax. We were unable to get Dish TV, so if you need TV just request an appropriate site. - kks

The campground was the perfect place to stay while we toured Cumberland Island an the surrounding area. St Mary's is a quaint little town with very friendly folks. The owners of the campground could not have been nicer. We asked for a satellite friendly site and they made sure we got one. Would love to come back and spend more time exploring this beautiful part of the Georgia and Florida coast. We could stay here again. - PRG

This state park has something for everyone. It is well used by the community. A wedding occurred there during our stay. Beautiful live oaks give it charm. Sites are very large. There are 62 sites, many with full hookup, all allowing tents too. Over-the-air TV is marginal. We stayed here while touring Cumberland Island and St Marys, the quaint seaside town nearby. - exceltraveler

The wifi, pool and mini golf were great, but thats where it ended. The cable tv was off. This park could be really good with a lot of TLC. The sites were not level at all. The bugs were terrible. The workers raced around in there golf carts, nobody knows anything when you ask for assistance. We will not go back to this park. - nuttman

Large park but well organized and clean. Gravel roads and sites, level and easy to get around. Good WiFi. Easy Interstate access. Would stay again. - RCM11

If my site had been level I would have given the park a 10 rating. Very friendly and helpful staff, lots of amenities: long office hours, an escort to your site even after the office has closed, free breakfast on weekends, great pool, mini golf, two laundry rooms, lunch and dinner delivery to your campsite from little cafe and fantastic wi-fi that allows you even to stream. - Scldg

Stopped for an overnight at this small campground situated close to interstate but quiet. Sites were gravel and level and was given a pull through. Excellent wi-fi. Staff was excellent and owner stopped to thank me for staying with them. Lots of shade and beautiful setting. Travel pulling a 17ft Casita travel trailer. Perfect for my overnight stay. Will definitely stay here again. - Jay/Ang

As Joe Friday would say,"Just the facts Mam." The name of this park is accurate, there are many country oaks here. Some of the oaks have big branches which hang over the roads in the park. These trees and their branches are not marked as being a hazard in any typical method. What is used to mark them is a rope tied to one of the offending branches with a noodle attached to the bottom of said rope. Yes, a noodle like you play with in a pool. Since it was dark and never having been here before and not recognizing the noodle rope method of hazard warning, I hit the branch. The awning was partially torn off and numerous holes torn in the roof. The manager appeared and help me identify that indeed I had hit a big limb with a noodle tied to it with a rope and I was not the first person to have done so. She showed us to our site where we hooked up to utilities and tried to go to sleep.Things did not look better in the light of day. The manager was kind enough to loan me a ladder and hacksaw to cut off the remains of my awning. She then requested payment in full and offered the card of a local RV repair service. The manager, who was pleasant, was not overly concerned with my plight. Maybe it is such a common occurrence she had become numb to the customers pain. I wired the remains of the awning to the fifth wheel and covered the holes with duct tape and continued on my journey. The damage is being repaired and the bill is close to $11,000. My daughter in law, the attorney, said, well you can guess what she said I should do. I chose instead to give this warning. Don't drive your RV until you are tired and try to park in the dark. If you see a tree with numerous large chunks knocked out of the bark and a noodle tied to it with a rope please avoid it. I think you might want to avoid this campground too! - Shady Spring

Updating other reviews - NO DISCOUNTS AT ALL AS OF JUNE 2018. Asked about everything, the answer was no Passport America, no Good Sam, no AARP, no military... Nothing. The rates are $40/day, $250/wk, $650/mo. All plus tax. Very simple park, a row of pull-throughs and a row of back-in spaces. Clean and organized, well groomed grass and concrete pads that are solid. The location is convenient to the highway, but is right behind a RaceTrack gas station and adjacent to a Waffle House. After a moderately heavy rain, a significant portion of the spaces are actually under several inches of water. I actually have my RV stored in this town and needed someplace to do some work on it, and paying for the site was cheaper than feeding the generator. Other than that, $40 a night for what you get doesn't seem like a great value, the Petro truck stop next door offers the same basics (a parking place and not much more) but lacks the hookups. So this is $40 for utilities. - GatorFan2
Aug 2017 - $40.00
This is a nice, clean, well located park for a day or two in the area. Some of the other parks around have some unusual occupants; however, this one does not have that problem. Personnel is very friendly and helpful. Sites are long and driveways are wide. Petro next door for diesel. Lots of grass. We have been here before and will return. - Freedom Bus
Mar 2017 - $38.00
This is a small campground attached to the nearby Econo Lodge. Check in is at the motel office. Advertised as a Passport America park, the PPA basic rate is $30 plus $5 for a pull thru. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to pay full price. There are 4 pull thrus available for travelers. The rest of the campground is full of long term campers so not back ins are available at the lower price. Campground is easy on/off the interstate and there is some noise associated with a nearby truck stop and busy road. Bathrooms and laundry are available in the motel but no additional bathhouse is available. Parking pads were concrete and very narrow and close to neighboring site. Utilities were adequate with good Verizon cell and hotspot. No issues getting our roof top satellite locked in. We normally would stay at a nearby military campground but since it was full, we opted for this campground for the full hook ups. We would stay here in the future if needed. - roadking

Mar 2018 - $40.00
We had two nights of vacation left and really wanted to visit St. Mary's historic district before heading north. This campground showed on our map as just off i95 which we considered perfect. As mentioned in most of the reviews, this is an older park with a large population of residents and many older homes. Sites are extremely small, but without a slide this wasn't a problem. Water pressure, WiFi and TV were good. Site was level and hard. What I really liked were 1. Friendly staff and 2. Friendly neighbors. Everyone at least offered a greeting and one fellow stopped by each night and visited for some time. We didn't have time to take advantage of the hiking trails or lake. The only real downside was the traffic noise. i95 is really close and the traffic doesn't let up during the night. - Mark Ramsden
Mar 2016 - $44.00
Mostly permanent residents with lots of clutter around the units. Cracked concrete pads. Very narrow sites, some not conducive to multiple slides. Clean but very old bathrooms. Game room dumpy. Staff friendly, clean laundry, and close to interstate for those just traveling through the area. Great Internet, able to stream without a problem. - dkTennessee
Aug 2015 - $30.00
Had to stay two nights but will never stay again. Directions were useless. Billboard hadn't been changed to reflect the new name, nobody working in office and cell phones apparently not in use because we tried several times to call and had zero luck. Place was packed with seasonal campers and very close quarters. I asked my wife to pass the pepper and the guy next door brought it over. - Mr. Camper

Right off I-95. Great for overnight stay. Probably would not stay there for extended length of time. Sites are pretty level but very close together. More sandy soil than grass. Shopping and restaurants approximately 5 miles away. They have added several additional sites and bath house on another piece of property next to the original campground. There are lots of permanent folks staying there. - archbarb
Jul 2019 - $42.00
The grass was in dire need of a mowing in the new section. This is a small park with mostly residents. There are no concrete pads for big rigs and all roads inside the park are gravel. No wifi, no cable, no fire ring so no campfires, no shade trees, no paved roads, no garbage pick up, and no store. It is a drive to any restaurant food so you must tow a car or be self sufficient. The owner is super nice and all the workers are cordial. There is a small clean pool and clubhouse with wifi. Our Verizon service worked but we burned up a lot of use on our hot spot. I thought for the price we will try a State park or a private commercial park for the same price with a lot more scenery and paved roads/pads of exit 6 off I-95. Big rigs can get in easily enough but certainly more is expected to accommodate that business in my opinion. - Atlanta Family
Apr 2019 - $23.00
Great owners. Very interested in the campers and what they like and dislike. After leaving we were emailed and thanked for staying at walkabout. I will stay there again one of my favorites. They're in the process of remodeling and expanding and it's going to be a great campground very soon. We visited the wonderful town of Saint Marys Georgia. One of my favorite places to visit. - KBaker66

If you want to visit the area of Fernandina Beach, then this is the most convenient place to stay. Fort Clinch is closer, but it is very difficult to find a spot there during the summer months and at times you are overrun with Mosquitos. The spots that are held open for transient guest are fairly large and lever and it does adjoin Lofton Creek that has a boat ramp and dock area. Other then that the campsite has no other amenities to offer. I think the manager attempts to keep the bath and shower area clean but it is old and difficult especially with the permanent residents continually dragging in mud and dirt. Notwithstanding, until there is a better alternative, this is the best place to stay if you want to visit the Fernandina Beach area. - laringrp

great location and the river campsites are only a short walk to the water which at low tide had lots of good walking the unpaved road in campground could use grading but overall was pleased with campground and have already rebooked for next year. - billreedred
Sep 2019 - $13.00
Friendly staff at check in. Small store at museum. Low hanging branches. Some sites are very short. Site 63 is only pull through. $2.00 per load W/D at restroom. Great views of sunsets at end of campground. Great biking. Ocean sites have no shade. Dunes are high so no view of ocean. Riverfront sites are very shady. - Jan Orlando
Aug 2019 - $23.00
Traffic noise is NOT a problem. Both campgrounds are miles away from the nearest public road or highway. We stayed at the river campground because of all the shade trees, which the Atlantic campground does not as it is located right next to dunes and the Atlantic Ocean. In fact, the distance from the park's front entrance to our campsite was exactly four miles. But the drive through the park to our campground was very scenic with a tree canopy over most of it. Take caution if your rig is high like ours (just under 13 feet). Some branches are perilously low in spots so stay in the middle wherever you can and need to. Electric service was steady and water pressure was sufficient. There is no WI-FI other than in the office. Cell service was a little weak but OK. Our site was deep enough for our 37-ft. Class A and wide enough that we could park our Jeep Liberty towed next to the coach and still have room left over. Our site was about a one-minute walk from the river where there was a beautiful sunset to see each evening. There is a dump station of each of the two campgrounds, but the one in the River Campground is set up for use by INCOMING rigs, so as we were leaving we had to drive around part of the loop to dump as if we were just arriving. While the campground roads are a bit narrow, they can easily be navigated with a little caution. The office staff was amazingly courteous, helpful, and friendly, perhaps the nicest staff we have ever encountered. The maintenance people and hosts in the park are just as nice. All in all, Fort Clinch is keeper, and we will be back again. - w3sjkb3aam
