Site was a back-in. Very green and grassy with a lot of shade from the trees. The hook-up for the sewer was from the top or the side, which was nice because the side one was close to the ground for easy flow. It's a State Park but we had a full hook-up. No shop or store for amenities, though. Just the park ranger station. A nice stay. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

You can visit Fort Benning if you are interested. The National Civil War Naval Museum is small, not too much time required, and very interesting!

Best place to camp if you are going to Providence Canyon. Large pull thru sites, under tall pines that give some shade at times. A few sites are paved. Open - no privacy. As another reviewer mentioned, the fire pits are too close to the adjacent site, can be a fire hazard or damage a camper. The outside of the bathhouse is misleading in that you think that the bathrooms are newer. They are clean but old with the showers across from the toilet stalls. Very ADA compliant. There is a nice spacious laundry room, machines reasonable priced. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while we were visiting Providence Canyon State Park. We arrived on a Thursday, and left on Saturday morning. The campground was easy to find, and accommodated our 40' fifth wheel easily. We were in a pull through site with full hookups including cable, a picnic table, lantern hangers, a fire ring, and the parking pad was level asphalt. It was quiet on Thursday, and a little loud Friday night but that was somewhat expected. The camp host was great, and you could purchase firewood at the camp host hut. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots of long pull thrus, some with trees to close to get awning out, no wifi, good clean restrooms, not many views of lake. The oddest thing was that most fire rings were very close to their neighbors site. No one was in the site next to us but the fire ring was 3' from my trailer. Very easy to manuever in the park. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Spacious park, with full hook-ups, which is rare in our experience for State Parks. Campground is spacious with plenty of space for even big rigs to maneuver. Campground hosts were very hands-off, although they do have a little "welcome hut" at the entrance where they were available during peak check-in hours. Park is very fishing-centric, with lots of fishermen (and boats) and even a fish cleaning station in the campground. Although we did not fish, we rented a small Johnboat for an afternoon and took it for a spin on the lake (a steal at $35 for 4 hours, gas and PFDs included.) Playground facilities were adequate, although the putt-putt course has seen better days. Cap staff were nice, and the camp store was adequately stocked. Verizon Service decent (enough for my remote work) and T-Mobile was available in the higher spots in the park (not in the CG itself.) Note that all the towers serving the park are on the Alabama side of the river, and thus your phone will display Central Time instead of Eastern Time (which the park is on). We just used our watches :) We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Providence Canyon (ten miles away) is a must-see. Dramatic colorful canyon reminiscent of Bryce Canyon (albeit on a smaller scale.)

This state park campground is very peaceful and quiet. Site 31 is a very long pull thru site. The total length of the site was 135' so any size rig will fit. The campsites are surrounded and shaded by many pine trees. Located right next to a 45,000 acre lake with a marina. This state park is only 9 miles from Providence Canyon State Park (aka... Georgia's Grand Canyon). Unless you are a fishing or boating enthusiast, there is not much to do at the campground. You are also quite far from any grocery store or gas station, so bring what you need with you. We got 1 bar with Verizon and 2 bars with ATT. The Bathrooms were spotless with 5 showers and 1 ADA Shower for a total of 6 showers in the men's room. I assume the girls room has the same. There was also a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers only costs $1.00 for washer and $1.00 for dryer. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed for about 12 days in our first trip in a new travel trailer we purchased. It was really quiet, we got the far back left lot which had no one on one side and was probably .2-.3 acres large. It was a peaceful, relaxing experience, but it finally got busy on labor day weekend when we were leaving. The only drawbacks being so close to the water, it is a bit buggy, there were some pine trees dropping stuff on my truck as well. Also there are flying asian cockroaches in the area, we did not get infested but did get one in our camper (freaked us out a bit). Overall its a good park, out literally in the middle of nowhere (closest town is like 20 miles away). One more thing, it is one of the few Georgia State parks with full hookups, so that is really cool. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great little state park on the river. Nice long sites with a lot of room in between. Only negative was the extremely rude female ranger that checked us in. If you are unlucky enough to have her at check in, do not let that get your stay off to a bad start. Hopefully she will find a job where she does not interact with the public ;-). Once the new year starts and you can reserve specific sites, that will eliminate the problem if you need 50 amp and they are already taken. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This has to rank as one of the nicest state parks we have encountered. We were in site 16 at the end of the loop. The site was spacious, fully shaded, and relatively easy to back into. We travel in a 35 foot class A motorcoach and had no trouble getting the coach backed into place with plenty of room for our tow car. There are a lot of open grassy picnic areas throughout the park (extremely clean and well maintained) and the views of the Lake were gorgeous with ample places to walk your pets. Sites are packed dirt and gravel with forest floor leaf litter. No noticeable bugs while we were there in mid-October. Fire rings and picnic tables were at each site. Site only had 30 amp electricity and full hook ups. We wished we stayed longer than our 5 Days. Camp hosts were amazing. No AT&T cell service but t-mobile worked. Cable was fuzzy but over-the-air tv channels worked well. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We toured the Richland Rum distillery and our host Jennifer was amazing. We also toured the Omaha Brewery and had a fabulous time in the tasting room. We went back a second day just to get some fresh canned brew to take home as gifts. We visited Providence Canyon State Park and did the hike into the Canyon. It was worth the walk and the .25 mile climb back up. Also visited Eufaula, AL and went by the shorter mansion (Sweet Home Alabama Movie). We were too late to take the tour that day.

This is a beautiful park! The sites are nestled among tall pine trees, but the effect is fairly open. If you have a roof-mounted TV dish, aim for sites 39-43 (they face west). There is no wifi anywhere and we had no ATT cell service. We were out of touch for the duration of our stay. The staff is great. We tried to use ReserveAmerica, but they said there were no sites of any type available. So we called the park directly and they had plenty of sites. Skip ReserveAmerica and call the park directly. We stayed in a 40' 5th wheel for 1 week. VERY spacious, quiet, space for our 2 large dogs to exercise. Great people, just a handful of campers the 1st few days, but come friday totally booked. F/h, no problem with our dish. nice ranger and office staff. played mini golf, spent the day at Columbus walking the river walk and enjoyed the eating outdoors. Will Definetly visit again sorry we left. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nicely forested campground, sites are large - most pull thru, but you can see your neighbors. Some sites are paved. There is an incline to some of the sites so leveling may be required, depending on your rig. It looked like the exterior of the bathhouse & laundry had been redone, but the interior was old and could stand to be updated. We camped at Florence Marina State Park in a Motorhome.

Clean little park with the Georgia little grand canyon 8 miles away. You have to use "reserve America" which is a pain as they don't do the senior discount, then you get the discount at the park!
