Nice State park, but many of the spots on a steep slope. Beautiful view of the Snake River if you camp on the Lower Loop. Lots of footpaths, but if you have dogs, BEWARE! Foxtails everywhere, the seeds get under an animal's skin, & because they're barbed, need an operation to be removed. But the best thing were the showers! Spacious, plenty of room for getting dressed afterwards without a wet floor, honestly better than most commercial "resorts"! We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Very convenient location just off the highway. Came here in the middle of the week, not full, but there were more campers then I expected. That said, I have reserved ahead of time. I wanted the Lower Loop, but the sites I wanted on the river side with a view were all occupied so I choose the Upper Loop site #13, which is at the very top, with a panoramic view of the campground and Snake River below. That also meant I got a bit of wind gust and some highway noise as well. It's not bad, but Lower Loop probably is more quiet (less Highway noise) then Upper Loop. One thing I found to my surprise was that the restrooms / shower facility, while old (probably constructed from the early 70s), was very very clean. So clean that I have no second thoughts on using it on multiple days. I would rather have an old clean restroom than a newer dirty smelly restroom. Kudos to the maintenance crew on keeping the facility tidy. If I were to car camp or in a tent, I would pick a site adjacent to the restroom without hesitation. Now, I wasn't there on the weekend so I couldn't tell you how it would be when the campground was full. If you have kids, they would have fun just riding their bikes up and down the campground. I rode my mountain bike all around, at various trails by the campground, to the head of the Oregon Trail, as well as to Register Rock a few miles from Massacre Rocks without any problem. Too bad they don't have a swimming area, otherwise it would get 5-Star from me. Great safe, easy access campground for the short quick get away. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Convenient to freeway. A bit difficult to find the office upon entering which was problematic as tight quarters and snowing! Our space was very difficult to get into in our 42 foot rig and we had a bit of a time getting level. We did have a gorgeous view though! The park itself has some stunning views of the Columbia River and wonderful walking paths. I doubt we would stay again just because the spaces for big rigs are just not big enough, but it would be a great spot for those with smaller rigs and or trailers. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Great staff, very friendly! Very historic park. For larger rigs sites are limited. We were in Lower campground which is closer to Snake river. The site was somewhat level; had to use a lot to get level and front end jacks up high. Roads are gravel. If there were a lot of traffic it could be dusty. Sites are spaced apart, which are nice and private. Sites 38 and 42 (great views) was all I that noticed for larger rigs 36'+. Good power and water. Dump station. Roads are a little narrow. We would stay here again. We camped in a 36ft 5th with 3 slides and it work out well. Staff seem to check the campgrounds on their rounds. Restrooms very clean! Was glad we stayed here as we read the reviews from previous review about the park. Don't miss it. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Historic park: check out the geology overlook, register rock (where the pioneer emigrant trains scratched their names into a boulder), Wagon rut trail. Visitor center has a lot information and exhibits to see and the staff is very friendly and helpful in answering your questions.

Caveats about our visit: only the upper loop was open (winter season), the whole park was undergoing electricity upgrades (up to 50-amp service on several sites!), and the water wasn't turned on--we had to dry camp, which explains the discounted rate. That being said, what a wonderful spot, with great views of (and boat access to) the Snake River. The campsites are interestingly designed along the contours of the terrain, which also means that only a few are suitable for big rigs (especially in the upper loop). That also applies to the interior roads, which require careful driving. Nice walking/biking trails (unpaved). Dump station available when exiting (could be challenging for bigger rigs). Definitely recommended, but take your time if in a big rig. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a terrific state park. Beautiful sites with utilities and some with views of the Snake River. Awesome.
We stayed at site 42 and while there are many sites to suit the needs/wants of campers, I liked this one because of the views and that the site needed very little levelling. Beautiful sunrises. We will be coming back through this way in 12-14 days and will stay at this or any other site.
One other thing. The camp host is very diligent in making the rounds. Does her job well.
I give this only a 7 rating because it has only 30 amp connection instead of 50amp and it has no sewer connection at the site. But what the heck, it's a campground not an RV park. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Gravel sites are fairly spacious generally level and, in most cases deep enough for larger RVs. Power (30 amp) held up well however, the CG was lightly used while I was there. Nice visitors center detailing the history of the area. Of note, Idaho State Parks now offers WiFi for a fee -- $3.00 for 24 hours, $10.00 for a week. Stopped here in mid-October. Even though it was a mild weather weekend there were only a half-dozen campers. The lower loop was closed so stayed in site #13 in the upper loop. Sites 13 & 14 have a great view of the Snake River. All sites have 30 amp, water (except 11), table and fire ring, no sewer but there is a dump station. This campground is an arid, rocky terrain with sagebrush and scrub pines thus very little shade. Has $$ wifi/great ATT cell signal/great satellite. Pricing is $33/night, there is a $19 senior rate for M-Th ( these are out of state prices). Most sites will fit a 40' rig. This CG is open year-round. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

My ratings are for comparable state/national park campgrounds. I'm not comparing to RV Parks or Resorts.

This is a Idaho State park with a magnificent views. We staying in the upper section which offers views over the Snake River that excellent. Our spot did not have the view but a short walk took us there. Some spots along the ridge would be excellent except we have small kids and I'm sure one would find a way to tumble down. The lower loop is down in the river bottom. We might choose one of those spots on our return.

Bathrooms/showers are dated but kept clean and stocked.

Staff was friendly and helpful. They offered programs for the kids regarding Oregon Trail, crafting etc. The kids enjoyed this part. Hiking trails are present....I can't rate this one as we only took one quick trek. Rattlesnakes are in the area. One was found that day near campsites. However it was removed by park personnel quickly upon being notified. They ask to report such matter. Firewood avail for $6 from concessions.

We will return again if traveling through. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Interior roads are paved and the sites are dirt. We had a problem with tracking the very fine dirt from outside into the trailer, Sites do not have any sewer hook-up and electricity is limited to 30 amps. Had to do some work to level. There is a nice dump station near the upper loop. A slight amount of road noise coming from I-86; other than that it was quiet. Sites are well separated, with some screening between sites. Some nice views of the Snake river. Have your supplies before arriving as ice is about the only thing available in the park. Reserve America charges $10 for online reservations. Multiple discounts available to Idaho residents. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have to admit that we felt we had the BEST site in this park, number 31. It sits up high (even though it is in what they call the lower campground) overlooking the Snake River...beautiful! They do not have sewer hookups; otherwise it would rate a ten. The employees and especially the hosts and volunteers are very friendly and informative, sharing all kinds of native flora and fauna and local history. The Oregon Trail nearby locations and the geography of the place were very interesting. The park was not very crowded (on a mid June weekend) so it was very peaceful. We would definitely recommend it. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this National Park for a week during Memorial day. We made reservations early and were happy we did because the park was full and not many spaces for my 40 ft rig. After the holiday there were plenty of spaces available but, for the good spots I would book early. We booked space 42 which was a loop space close to the river. Check-in was easy due to early booking. There is a lot of history here and the visitor center and hiking trails have a lot of information about the area's past, during the Oregon and California wagon trails. The spots are paved and easy to pull into. The hookups are in the right location. There are no sewer hookups but there is a dump station. Our spot was level so we didn't need any blocks. The spots have a table and a fire pit and they sell firewood at the visitor center. There are lots of hiking trails and during the summer there are canoes to rent. The river is slow moving and wide with bass, rainbow and cutthroat trout. The camp is quiet but it would be perfect if it was not so close to the highway so you can really get away from it all. You do get use to the humming of the truck tires. Thankfully there isn't much traffic on the road. There are showers and they were clean. Surprisingly, our Verizon service was awesome and we have our own Wi-Fi. There were no tall trees that blocked our satellite as well but we spent most of the time outside exploring. We would come back to this park again. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the time to check out Register Rock, which is just down the road. There is a park where 20 years of people traveling by wagon stopped here and chose to separate from the wagon train from Missouri and take the California or Oregon Trails. At this park is a large rock where travelers signed it. There are also ruts in the country side from the wagons.

Found a nice pull-through on the upper loop. We walked the nature trails up and around the river. We found several new birds to photograph. Don't think they have turned on the hot water yet so didn't use the clean showers. Could hear interstate noise at our site. I think noise is better in lower loop but sites looked a little smaller. Found the cost high for what you got - 30 amp service and water for $28 (M-T senior rate is $16.66). Wi-Fi is free for 20 minutes but not able to connect to Bluemesh (the vendor for Idaho Parks Wi-Fi). We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very scenic park with loads of hiking trails and fishing in the Snake river. Sites are pull thru and back ins and have water and electric. There is a dump station. The bathrooms are clean but much to my surprise no soap or paper towel dispenser/hand dryer! There are trash cans through out. A senior discount is offered but only Monday thru Thursday. There is also an added $5 entrance fee! Staff and camp host very friendly. Would stay here again. We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Our 2nd visit here, this time with a new rig. We had a pull-through site on the lower loop, and were a bit surprised how unlevel it was - something one needs to be prepared for! (Fortunately, we were.) Power & water hookups worked well, nice view from parts of the campground, bathroom was very clean. Showers are separate from the toilet area, individual (unisex) shower rooms. Lots of staff, both volunteer & paid, and they were always around and very friendly. Not many sites large enough to accommodate bigger rigs. Love the midweek senior rates, though - they can't be beat! Nice place; we will return.
