Hospital-clean bathrooms/showers. Plenty of mature shade trees& sufficient open sites to please everyone. E/w worked fine. Gravel pad level. Free waffles served each morning by owners in cafe/office. Far enough of Hwy to be quiet at night. Surrounded by pastures. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Good enough campground for a night or two when traveling through Idaho. The owner was very nice. Coffee and waffles in the morning were a plus. On the downside, even though clean the campground shows age. The owner has only owned it a year. He is great in the customer service department but has a lot of maintenance work ahead of him. I hope he gets it in shape. Though friendly, the town of Arco has very little going for it. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Gravel sites but mine was perfectly level. Laundry was fine but a little expensive. $1.75 wash and $1.75 for dry. 4 of each available. Free waffles in the morning. Did not use bathrooms. Close to Craters. Trees and shade but still had Dish. Stayed in B7 We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Price is average of $10 difference between Labor Day holiday rates and normal rates. This is an older, somewhat small KOA campground, with gravel roads and sites that are almost but not quite level, with some ruts and depressions that could use some filling. However, there are some nice mature willows to provide much needed shade at this time of year when it can be very hot. Some of the willows could use some trimming though. Sites are a little close together, but have seen much worse. The bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities were dated but serviceable and were kept clean. They had a little camp store with basic necessities, and were able to fill propane tanks. Their WiFi was decent (especially after Labor Day crowds left), and Verizon coverage was good. They also had good basic cable TV. Up until Labor Day, they had a few other nice perks, like free waffles made in morning, evening ice cream socials, and weekend $10 per person wine "tasting" from a couple Idaho vineyards, which was a bit of a hoot - less of a wine tasting experience than a way to drink a bunch of mediocre wine and socialize with your fellow campers, but hey, it was fun. Park staff were very friendly. They also had a small enclosed dog park, a nice little pool that was very popular over holiday weekend, and a small playground. All in all, a pleasant stop for a few nights and we would stay again if in area. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Only two real attractions in area, both worth stops. Experimental Breeder Reactor #1 (EBR-1) in one direction, and of course Craters of the Moon National Monument in other. To do all the hikes and stops in the Monument justice, plan on a day and a half- and get an early start in summer before it gets hot!

You probably wouldn't come here unless you planned on going to the Craters of the Moon. The CG and town in general is off the interstate quite a ways. If is a typical KOA journey CG with narrow, level, gravel sites and some grass in between. The staff was very nice at check-in and they do have a some activities incl an ice cream social and wine tasting. In the morning, they serve waffles and coffee. A nice touch. Water/electric/sewer worked well and it's very open so satellite is no problem. Wifi and AT&T very weak. If you're traveling and need to do some planning online, do it before you get here! Some of the items in the overall description are incorrect. There is 50 amps service. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Of course, you'll visit Craters but a visit to the first nuclear reactor, ERB-1 is very interesting. Arco was the first town to be lit entirely for nuclear power in 1955.

This is a nice campground, however the number of dogs is outrageous. Many people bring 2 dogs. Every site, grass patch, shrub and tree is sprinkled in dog urine. Most owners make an effort to clean up, but at this number, inevitably, we found dog pooh (photo). Compared to 20 or 10 years ago, the number of dogs on campgrounds has exploded everywhere, but this KOA camping was definitely the worst. It has depressed our rating. We observed that we were not the only guests who were annoyed about the dogs. Kampgrounds of America: do something about it! We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Campground feel with lots of grass and big trees, as well as spaces in the open without trees. Very friendly personnel who make every effort to ensure you are happy. Big rig (we are 45' plus tow car) friendly. Safe, quiet, clean. Our site was a 50 amp pull thru with a large shade tree which didn't interfere with our satellite. It was a little unlevel but no problem for our airbags. I did notice those with jacks having a little more problems getting level in some spots. There is a small pool, playground, enclosed dog run and on site cafe and gift shop. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Just a very friendly and comfortable campground in a small town. The campground has ice cream socials, wine tasting on the weekends and a small cafe for takeout dinner. A little tight for big rigs, but call ahead and they'll work with you to fit you in. A great place to drop anchor, and do a day trip to Craters of the Moon. This is a nice, quiet camground, close to Craters of the Moon NM. The staff was very helpful when I requested a change to the spot they'd assigned us. There is a fenced dog area with some miniature agility equipment in it. There are open areas for on leash dog walking. There is a pretty view and level sites. We'd return. Park road was tight for our rig. Brushed a tree getting into site. Only had 30 amp service so could not run both A/C units. As normal for KOA the sites were very close. Over all a good place to stay while visiting Craters of the Moon. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

There is a small restaurant in the office that served really good smoked ribs. There isn’t a swimming pool or a store but they do have a putt putt golf course. There is not a fenced in pet off leash area and there isn’t a designated pet area either but it is pet friendly. I had a heck of a time finding the trash dumpster which was behind a tall fence. This is a very nice KOA. Some sites are shaded and others are out in the open. All sites are reasonable level and park is big-rig friendly. Utilities well placed and worked as expected. Owner is super nice as was the rest of the staff. Campground was in a very quiet area. They have an on-site kitchen which will prepare and deliver meals to you. It was so good and so reasonably priced we used it for dinner every night we were there. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

This was an unexpected jewel of a spot. The new owners were wonderful, helpful, and friendly. The park is all gravel, but in good shape. We were there right after snow melt while they were still getting the park ship-shape, but it was extremely pleasant. There are the best waffles ever in the morning! There is not a whole lot to do in Arco, but very educational. Craters of the Moon is very worth a visit and great hiking/exercise. Alas, EBR-1 was not open while we were there, but looking at the atomic jet engines was interesting. The best thing by far is the museum located in the little metal building next to the submarine exhibit. If you hang around a bit, a staff member will come over to open the building and explain all the exhibits. He worked many years in the nuclear industry at Idaho National Labs down the road, and you can spend hours listening to his stories and learning about the industry. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff in that building, and he is a treasure that should be enjoyed. And check out all those graduation years written on the mountain! Employees were exceptionally friendly. Check in was quick and easy in site #D9. Map and staff indicated that it was 30 amp, but it was actually 50 amp. (We could do either, so no issues) 6:30 pm ice cream social, 7:00 pm wine tasting around the fire pit. Looking forward to their free Belgium waffles later this morning! Wifi existed, but was sketchy... 14 channels from the reg. antenna, including the three major networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely want to grab a burger at Pickles - tasty beef and nice seasoning. Fried pickles were also great. Note that they are pickle spears, rather than the small rounds we have had at other places. Worth driving over to Craters of the Moon N.P. Easy drive through the National Park, with several accessible hikes, from short easy walks to longer hikes. Also stop into the visitor center, as it has a lot of informative and educational displays. (Water bottle refill dispenser inside as well.)
