Rate is for a paved and level pull thru FHU site for a non Idaho resident. Rates vary widely on this CG for amenities and residence. 5$ Vehicle entrance fee is mandatory for the first night and included in the posted rate. Some privacy, but sites are rather close to each other. Hookups in good order, only the sewer towards the front is a somewhat unusual location. Quiet at night. Washrooms seemed to be recently renovated. Very bumpy road (one mile) on the way in/out. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

I only rate this State park low because of the road into the park. it is very bumpy, full of pot holes and makes one nervous about what you will find in the park itself. The park is wonderfully remodeled with nicely fenced off separate sites. They are tough for a large vehicle, and there is a warning about anything over 45 feet. We pulled our 5th wheel in but I would unhook a tow vehicle first. The campground is very very quiet, you don't hear anything. It is first come, first served. I have heard that the other part of Heyburn is all reserved up for the summer. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Price reflected includes the motor vehicle entrance fee ("MVEF") pass. If you are a non-Idaho resident and don't have the MVEF pass, it will cost an additional $5 per day. This review is for the Benewah Campground. There are other campgrounds in Heyburn State Park, but they're in a different location. The road leading to the campground is 1.2 miles off Route 5, the road is narrow in places and has numerous potholes. There are 16 RV sites in this campground, one of which is the camp host site. There are numerous tent sites. All of the sites are first come, first served. Some RV sites have full hookups, others have partial hook ups, and there is no dump station at this campground. There are both pull-through and back-in sites available. Some of the sites are rather close and others are more spacious. At the self pay fee station there is a list of sites with the particular services offered at each site. Interior roads are asphalt, as well as RV sites. Our site was level but some of them would require blocks. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with a grate, located on a sandy area. Some of the tent sites have an additional bench in the site.

Restrooms/showers are modern and clean. The campground is heavily wooded, but we didn't notice any overhanging tree branches that would interfere with RVs. If you're in a largish motor home (we're 41') and have a tow vehicle, it would be best to unhook before driving through the campground. There is a tight turn after site 208, and there is a sign at the campground entrance warning that units longer than 45' are not recommended. Verizon data and cell service worked well. We had no OTA channels. There are trails where you can walk pets. We enjoyed our time at this campground, but we'd probably look for another place if passing through in the near future. There's a good amount of road construction in the area and the road leading to the park is rough. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Harrison is a small tourist town with gift shops, a waterfront restaurant, a nice park, and a grocery store.

At the start of this season 15 of the 39 sites were repaved and remodeled. We stayed in site 202, which is one of the 15 remodeled and paved sites. The other 24 sites are unpaved sites on an unpaved loop adjacent to the new paved loop with 15 sites. We we able to fit our 40 foot fifth-wheel and tow vehicle into site 202 on the paved loop. I think we would fit into about 5 or 6 of the paved sites. We would not enter the unpaved loop given our length. Only some of the 15 paved sites have sewer connection. All of the paved sites have 50 amp and water. The main entrance to the campground has a sign warning that maximum length is 45 feet. We parked there, where we could still turnaround easily and walked ahead to check out the paved sites. The paved loop has one tight turn, but total length over 50 feet should be able to make the turn. In between where we parked and the paved loop is a short section of road that is unpaved. This short section of unpaved road has a swale. We had no problem with the short unpaved, uphill section but the camp hosts said that others have had issues on the uphill side. Having issued all of these warnings, we enjoyed this wooded campground. The sites are new and nice as is the setting. We hiked about 10 minutes down to the nearby lake. The lake is crossed by a railroad bridge that also has a fun tunnel immediately before the water. Restrooms were remodeled, clean and nice. This campground is a bit of trouble to access but is a worth the effort once you get situated. If you are long, I would definitely call ahead to make sure that one of the larger paved sites is expected to be available upon your arrival. All of the sites in this campground are first come, first served. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Clean park, friendly personnel, nice interpretive center, miles and miles of bike trails. The only reason why rating is not excellent is because the highway noise is close. You can't see it, but you sure know it is there. Noise does subside in the evenings. The bathrooms were clean but a bit run down. Beautiful area. There were a few big rigs here but the turning on some corners was probably a bit tricky. Only a few sites have sewer so be sure that is specified on your reservation. We expected this park to be a bit larger knowing that it was remodeled a couple years ago. The first State Park in Idaho. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is the second time we have camped here in the past two years and really enjoy this campground. The best part is its easy access to The Trail of the Couer d' Alenes bike trail. The trail is completely paved, flat, and goes right along the edge of Lake Couer d' Alene before heading east up into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The campground is neatly kept, sites are all in the woods with nice shade. Both pull-through and back-in sites available, but very large rigs would have problems negotiating the narrow roads. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The park is very nice, however, the campground is not up to standard. The thirty amp electrical service is weak at best, the water pressure is low, and the sewer hookups are broken. There is not a level site in the place and it is very tight all around. Only the most skilled should attempt to get in here. We used site 203 because it was the most level and easy to escape from. The old facilities are just that old and hard to keep clean. The access road is paved, but it is a pot holed mess. We camped at Heyburn State Park - Benewah Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
