Overall great experience. Fishing was great. We checked in on Saturday and the park was full. By Sunday afternoon we basically had the whole campground to ourselves. Reservations are highly recommended. We will definitely go back! We camped at Winchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was one of our favorite places to visit on a trip through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. We really loved this park! I don't know why the other reviewer gave it 6/10, it's absolutely beautiful. I didn't see any algae in the lake, and there is a shortcut from the hook-ups campground to the lake. It's a short walk, cutting between the B & C loops (about a 200 foot walk). The fishing was amazing, with lots of bluegill and perch for the kids. I caught a 5 pound catfish, which was some work to bring in. We backed our 29' travel trailer and crew cab F-250 into our space without any problems, and it was fairly level.

There is a campground host in each of the three loops, and they sell firewood on site for $5/bundle. The store at the front entrance was nice also, with some apparel and some snacks for the kids. There are no sewer connections in the park, but the dump station is right outside the park, next to a convenience store (very easy to access and free). The store was very nice with lots of fishing gear, bait, snacks, drinks, etc.

The park sits at 3,900 feet, so it was very cool and comfortable in June. My wife says that Winchester Lake is her favorite park anywhere - and we've traveled about 9000 miles in our RV! I can't speak for maneuvering around in a 40' rig, as I've never owned one. However, we're about 40' long (truck and trailer) and had no problems getting into and out of the "B" loop. We camped at Winchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We barely fit into Site #1 with our 40' motorhome because of trees and large boulders at the edge. We would not recommend this park for RVs bigger than 35'. The roads are narrow and curvy to maneuver. We had a site with no hookups and that loop was at the lake. The upper loop had electric but was not lakeside. Unfortunately, the lake was full of algae but fish were being caught. Gas motors on boats are not allowed but ATVs riding throughout the campground are allowed which made for a very noisy Labor Day weekend. There are hiking trails and the lake setting is pretty. There is a free dump station approximately 1/2 mile from the park. The electric loop had clean flush toilets and showers but the dry camp area had vault toilets. There are a lot of day visitors fishing here. Because of the site situation for big rigs we would not return. We camped at Winchester State Park in a Motorhome.

I may get in trouble with the regulars for posting this State Park. If you're into fishing this place is amazing. No motorized, lots of bank fishing with embarrassingly good results. Fish cleaning station. Park is busy on the weekends but not during the week. Sites are arranged so you aren't on top of each other. One loop of dry sites, two loops of water/electric. WiFi is free for 20 minutes, $3 per day. You can make reservations online but if you call direct they have a whole raft of discounts that ReserveAmerica will not tell you about. IE retired half price. No dump stations in the park, but the city of Winchester has one to use free of charge. We camped at Winchester State Park in a Travel Trailer.
