Stayed a single night here. It's close to my daughter's home. Wooded site was pretty level. Gravel spot. Easy to back in with our 29' class A. Electric was good. The park is very large and was full the weekend we stayed. We'll go back. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for a few days in order to visit colleges in the area. Folks come here mostly to boat and jet-ski. We fished and my boys swam a bit but did find that the water was too warm to swim in especially since the temperatures were in the high 90s with massive humidity. As others have noted, the lake is used to cool the adjacent Exelon Power station. In the early AM they dump the cooling water into the lake and it's steaming hot when released (no swimming etc is allowed in this area obviously). Our site was quite large and backed up to the woods at the edge of the lake. Lots of tree frogs, birds and bunnies. From talking with other campers the ticks were out in force. None of us humans got any and I treat our dog regularly so he didn't have any that stuck but he did get a few bites. Also, poison ivy was everywhere (the entire back of our campsite) so we didn't venture too much into the wooded areas. Pretty quiet campground, filled up over the weekend but was really empty during the week. Beautiful night skies! The Milky Way and numerous planets were visible on the clear nights. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This campground charges 150% of their normal fee for holiday weekends. That in and of it's self is pretty bad but other campgrounds do similar. This one tops it off by killing power on groups of sites thus limiting the site availability to those that need power. What's more is that inflated fee only gets you the site, if you want to swim on the beach with your family of 5 for the weekend, it will cost you another $10 per day. No, it's not included. For a state run park that our tax money pays for this seems ridiculous. It makes it look as though the park in only interested in money. With a failing power grid that's outdated and a pay to play mentality, we will not be back here. Very little tree cover and sites are nearly on top of each other. Mowing is done but they mow as little as possible leaving tall grass and pests within feet of the camper and the sites. Find a different park unless you like paying high KOA type fees and spacing with none of the benefits. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This park is a bit off the beaten path but was worth the drive. There are standard "pit" type bathrooms close to the campsites that are the standard for Illinois, but the entrance to the loops had showers and standard toilets that were kept clean. Host was friendly and the place was quiet at night. Not a lot of foliage this early in the season, but our site had a nice view of the lake from the back of the campsite. Definitely going to stay here again. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

This park is a bit off the beaten path but worth it, particularly in the off season when you have the pick of many sites. After paying a camp host, we stayed overnight, and we can imagine this park is a popular place during the summer season. We hooked up to 30 amp in loop "I" where the sites are long and level. The lake is not far away and made for an interesting spring walk. We would stay here again. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This was an overnight stop for us, so we didn't use anything at the park itself. There are 308 sites, 6 are 50 amp full hookup. Camp hosts were nice (this is their 6th year there). Water pressure was extremely low, but that could have been because we had to actually duct tape the handle to get it to work. Cheap for overnight, and very outdoorsy if you like that type of thing - saw bike and walking paths, a 'beach', marina. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tried a local restaurant in the state park, at the marina (The Boondocks), because the locals raved about how good the burgers were....we weren't impressed, but the fries were good.

This is a really big campground and, again, to be honest we didn't see much of it beyond the section we were in. There are a variety of sites, ranging from just a few 50 amp full hookup sites, to several 30 amp full hook up spots, to water/electric to electric only.
This facility borders Clinton Lake: a popular area boating and fishing spot. Nearby is a marina and beach. None of the sites in our area, though, bordered the lake. This place is far enough off the beaten track that travelers don't often find it. The locals, though, fill it up on summer weekends, often in family groups who know just what spots are their favorites. The roads are good and the sites are level and spacious.
I was under the impression that the electric is an issue. Our power pedestal began acting up and getting hot. One of the campground employees cheerfully changed out the plug and breaker and we were back in business. I had the feeling that it was a common occurrence. There are a couple of issues you might want to know about. First, the few shower houses with modern facilities are in need of more "TLC." Also, there are several stinky pit toilets supposedly available closer to the campsites. I can't imagine anyone using them. Second, my Verizon signal was fair to poor, depending on time of day. Using the signal booster I managed to do most of what I wanted but at times it slowed to a crawl. All in all, our experience at this campground was a positive one and we will likely return. We

Loop F site 17 rented for the week. Stayed 2 nights. 1 shower works out of 4, with one set temperature, shower house was very dirty. Restroom was a filthy outhouse. We will never stay there again or recommend ever. We wasted 280.00 and left early. You think that a state recreation park that charges that much for a site, that they would at least have a clean restroom, and shower house with more than one working shower. They lied to us and told us we could keep our boat in the water, and after arriving and getting robbed for a week of fishing at 31.50 we were told in person that all boats not in rented slips must be pulled out every night. Beware of the false reviews that rate this place above average. Very disappointed on my annual family vacation. Illinois didn't impress my family enough ever to return. What a dump. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

The park was clean and quiet. It seems most of the campsites are set up in a circular arrangement- almost like a cul-de-sac- but the sites are very spacious. Although the camping sites were well manicured- it goes right up to thick brushy, grassy undergrowth, very popular with rabbits! There is no view of the water from the camping sites that I could figure, so to see the water, one must go to the beach or the marina. We only stayed one night, so our visit was limited, but I would go back...especially if I had a boat! We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

The rate is for an electric-only site. This Illinois State Recreation Area gets primarily local visitors, as it is not close enough to a major byway to make it convenient for most people traveling through. (We are an exception and are willing to go significantly out of the way to stay at state park campgrounds.) You see lots of friends and family groups staying near each other. During our weekend stay, we arrived without reservations, and it was not a problem as the campground was only about half full. When you arrive, you must first check-in with one of the two campground hosts. He gave us a map and let us choose our own site, then go back and pay. There are some full-hookup sites but they were all taken, so we chose a site with 30 amp electric only. There are some sites with 50 amp hookup available. The best place to fill with fresh water is at one of the two dump stations. Also, note that loops H, I, J, and K are designated as no-alcohol loops. Most sites seem to be fairly level, most with gravel, but some with concrete pads. Some sites are shady and some in the open. We chose a shady site. We did get satellite by using our portable dish. The park is well groomed and clean. We had weak, but usable, Verizon voice and data. The only negative that we had was a large family/friends group camped nearby that talked until two in the morning. We would stay here again if passing through, but would not go out of our way to visit again. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

There is an OK IGA grocery in Clinton, about 8 miles from the campground. Boating on the lake is popular. There is a marina that rents pontoon boats. We had planned on doing this but did not because of inclement weather during our visit.

Very nice spacious lots. Plenty of room between units. Lot was not completely level but was easy to level camper. Lots of shade trees. All utilities worked great (water, sewer, electric). Utilized hiking trails and beach. Did not have boat for lake but lots of other people did. It was a great time and already have reservations to return. Sites were not packed together but were slightly uneven. The bathhouse was clean. The park was well kept. We will be stopping here many times. Nice State Park Campground. Back in sites at an angle, easy to back in. Water not marked on maps, but plentiful throughout the campground. Memorial Day was VERY full and busy, but no one after or before holiday, almost empty. Good power, nice shady area. Some older areas were gravel, some had concrete pads. We will camp here again.
