Jul 2008 - $1.00
This campground is now closed. Park is only for day use. - WinnieViews
Jun 2006 - $15.00
This was okay, but we were driven away by a bunch of tiny flies. No biting, just swarming all over everywhere. Pit toilets, no showers, best for self-contained only. - Janjanjan68
May 2005 - $10.00
We have stayed here many times in 2004 and 2005. There are flush toilets at the Ranger Station. No reservations, but always a site except for holiday weekends. On holidays arrive early in week and get a great spot. Each spot has it's own water, elec, and fire ring. The wildlife in area is beautiful, crane, egrets, and several other fishing birds can be seen all day long. Additions of more tent sites expected soon. Residents of Kane County pay 10, others pay 15. - beckolette

There are already lots of good reviews but wanted to do ours. We really enjoyed this campground. It is clean, quiet, very well-maintained. There are a lot of good sites and some not quite as good for a motorhome (too much slope), but all sites are paved. Water is available, but this is one of the knocks in that there are shared sources for up to six users at once, and even with 75 feet of hose, we couldn't reach. No sewer (so the second knock) but there are dump station. Location is very convenient to stores and restaurants and there is a train line to Chicago only a few miles away. We would definitely stay here again. - SandmannRV
Jul 2018 - $35.00
We love this park. We are originally from Elgin & return here each year to visit friends. Satellite signal is easy to get & Chicago has plenty of over the air stations available. Lots of grass for the dogs & plenty of places to walk them. Lots of shopping & restaurants in the area. - Connie's Co-Owner
Jun 2018 - $35.00
Beautiful park, paved sites. Some sites will need extra hoses for water hookup. No showers available, sewer hookups, or honey wagon service. Does have dump station. Showers and service that could come to site and pump out black and grey tanks would be a great improvement to the campground s. It would make it more enjoyable for campers that plan a longer stay. - Pam from Alabama

Nov 2017 - $25.00
This is a tiny gem in Chicagoland with a lot going for it. Only five RV sites, plus tent sites and cabins. We have only camped here in off season, $50/nite in the summer is not worth it to us when we only live 6 miles away. But they have a lot of activities in the summer, check the website and reserve early. The good: 1. It is in a forest preserve with an extensive network of hiking trails and a paved bike path. 2. The Metra station is less than 3 miles away, you can be in downtown Chicago in less than one hour. 3. Restaurants and shopping nearby at Deer Park Town Center. 4. Propane, ice, other supplies are also very close. The bad: They need to work on their logistics. Much of the information on the website is wrong, like hours and phone numbers. On some sites, the fire ring is too close to your trailer for a safe campfire. The electric hook up is on the wrong side of the pad (really). No water hook ups (oddly, they have sewer though) and no spigots. You will be hauling water, unless their hose will reach your site. They told when we reserved that we could have it (hose) for our stay but then someone pounded on our door at 9:00 at night and told us that was wrong. He did allow us to fill our fresh water tank before he took it though. This place is geared for giving an outdoors experience to locals. They have classes like Camping 101, they rent equipment like bicycles and snowshoes and even a complete tent set up with sleeping bags. If you are not local, the main reason for going there is to have a convenient way to visit Chicago. - janci

Sep 2018 - $45.00
This park fills up on the weekends, when the Wild West amusement park next door is open. During park hours, you can enjoy (or not) the screams of kids, the fake gun battles, and the train whistle. It's a reasonable KOA. It seems pricey for where it is, a full hour from Chicago with no traffic via the tollway. The wifi worked better than some, and so did our T-Mobile service. There doesn't seem to be anything around so be sure you get what you need before you come. One more thing: the mosquitos are fierce. It was impossible to take the dog for a short walk without being swarmed. Everyone had smokers to try to keep them away. Not sure there's much the park owners could do about that but it made it impossible for us to sit outside at all. - Pull Toy
Aug 2018 - $60.00
Not big rig friendly. Entrance/Exit road is single lane. Had to back out of our pull through site due to a clearance problem. Site not level. Stayed in a 44 foot motorhome towing. Good park for smaller rigs, however. - Ftharrisiii
Aug 2018 - $58.00
Everything was good in our one night but they need to do something about the entrance to the office. Ridiculous location on the opposite side of the building. Also, one-lane entrance/exit driveway is strange and annoying. Very attractive, friendly place. - mlnr

The park floods, roads are full of pot holes; fire pits are located inconveniently on your site where you park your vehicle. Walk ways and roads are not shoveled properly. I witnessed someone slip and fall on a road thick with ice by the laundry room. Rent was just raised in the past month with a bare minimum done for park maintenance. They advertise spring water, Wi-Fi and cable in the brochure, but do not have theses amenities and its well water you do not want to drink. Some sites do not have electric. The first night I pulled in I was told by the Park Manager the electric company had just come that day and it was my rig; her solution was to go to a hotel for the night after paying a month rent and a $300 security deposit. When I left the Park I was told the park manager was in Florida and that she would send out a check for my security deposit. It's been over a month that I moved out; I have not received any money (security deposit). I have called the office several times, no one answers the phone and no one returns my voicemail. I hope you do not make the same mistake I did. - MKZ
Sep 2018 - $16.00
We stayed times 1 month. The owner lives onsite; work campers help out in field and the office, were fairly helpful. Cable services did not work in the park, laundry was well equipped, but machines didn't work consistently and brown well water ruined clothes. The roads inside the park are full of many holes. There were a few bad storms while we were there, downing trees (on a neighboring camper) and severe flooding. Has dump tank services weekly, also there is a dump station. - pamMJR
Sep 2018 - $48.00
Overpriced for mediocre, flooded campsite, road to site was flooded and full of big potholes. Would not recommend. - HollyLouise

Oct 2017 - $42.00
Planned this trip to visit family in the area. A majority of sites are permanent. The so-called overnight sites are very close and unlevel. I attempted to sit under my awning and the smell coming from the neighbor's sewer hookup (5' away) drove me back inside. We'll be staying at the state park nearby in the future. - laughing.crone
Jul 2017 - $43.00
As others have mentioned, this has a very charming, mid century feel to it. The lake is a wonderful amenity. The staff was helpful and friendly. The majority of the campground is taken up with park models, seasonals and rentals. The overnight section is small. We have a 43 foot motorhome and jeep tow and found this place to be very challenging. To say it is big rig friendly is just not accurate. Low hanging branches at entrance had the tv antennae spinning and the vents and AC units scraping. The check in area across from the lake was very congested. Kids running everywhere and no great place to queue. Found out later that the campground beach and beach amenities are open to the public, for a fee, and not exclusive to the registered guests. After registering, you need to loop back to where you started to find your site. Tight, narrow roads. No good place to unhook your toad, or hook back up. Our back in site was just long enough for the rig, the toad went sideways in the street. The site was uphill, too steep to have the leveling jacks do any good. The right rear jack sunk eight inches into the gravel base. The water connection is located on the site behind you, which you share. No chance for satellite, not even using the portable. No cable. Over the air channels were 8 lousy stations and Fox, and with all of them the picture tiled badly. The only saving grace was the Internet, which was excellent. The charm wore off with a visit to the restroom. They are old, and not in a good way. Mosquito infested. Tried to take a shower but gave up after five bites. Ingress and egress off of busy Highway 12 is a challenge. - VegasVagabonds
Jul 2017 - $45.00
Exceptional well maintained park located near a large metro area. The park is clean, all utilities function well and there is a very large dog park. As mentioned in other reviews, there are many park model trailers but they are very well kept. With lots of features including an 80 acker lake, this is an ideal park to kick back or visit the Chicagoland area. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The restrooms and showers, although older style, are very clean. Stay here again? Yes, definitely! - OldeJohn

Sep 2011 - $28.00
A nice little park in the middle of an Illinois corn field. There are trees, a pond, playground, tent sites and about 24 pull-through RV sites. The entrance and sites are gravel – not all are level front to back and across. To exit, you pull through your site onto the grass field around the back of other sites to the gravel road out. That is the only drawback for us because it RAINED and RAINED the 3 days before we left. That made the field very soggy. We and the owner determined that to drive across the field was not the best route out. Luckily, we had an empty site directly across and behind our rig. The owners’ staff assisted us with our exit so that any damage to the grass was minimal. Proximity to the location for the movie: Groundhog Day, Woodstock’s town square and environs, was a plus, as well. - zen_letitbe
Aug 2011 - $33.00
This is a funky little campground set well off the road on a family farm. The pull through sites look like back in sites at first glance, but the idea is to pull in and face a large lawn area which is used to pull out. Staff is very friendly, the park is quiet, with a fair proportion of seasonal campers. There is a swimming/fishing pond, table and fire ring at each site, and decent room between sites. Wi-Fi works well, but there is a $2 daily fee for Wi-Fi. The park is close enough to Chicago for antenna TV reception. Some of the overnight sites may require a bit of work to level your rig, but I've seen worse. We would stay here again. - DrLewie
Jun 2011 - $33.00
This is a small family owned campground positioned on a 100+ acre farm. It is clean and well maintained. Although the spaces between sites is small, it has a beautiful little swimming lake and has lots of open space around it. It is set back from the road by a long lane. It is busy on the weekends with family campers, but during the week is very tranquil. The manager is very accommodating and helpful. Woodstock is a very quaint small town (the movie Ground Hog Days was filmed there) with a large Wal-Mart, and a town square. There was good Wi-Fi and we got an excellent Verizon signal on our cellphone. There is an small charge for Wi-Fi and electricity if you are on the weekly rate. - sunbadgers

Sep 2014 - $20.00
Maybe I just happened to pick a bad weekend, but this first visit to this campground was completely miserable. Perhaps had I come to tent camp and never expected to leave the campground the whole weekend, I'd have a different opinion. First the good points-- nice graveled campsites (and all have electric), plenty of shade and privacy between the sites in this heavily wooded campground, fairly clean bathhouse, and a nice lake nearby. If you happen to be a resident of DuPage county, the $20/night rate is not bad either. Sadly, the good points end there. The campground is located at the very back of the park and requires driving over 6 large speed bumps to come and go. The campground roads are narrow gravel with tight turns and hills. Most sites are only suitable for tents, pop-ups, vans, or RVs less than 25'. The only available water is from non-threaded spigot pumps. The dump station is small and tilted the wrong way to empty most RV tanks. The campground is only open 2 or 3-night weekends from May through Sept. But perhaps the biggest negative-- both the campground and forest preserve gates are closed and locked just after sunset every night. If you want to enjoy a nice dinner beyond the park boundaries, or visit friends in the area, forget about it! One final negative-- when I visited, the park was literally overwhelmed with mosquitoes. So bad I had to wear a bug jacket to cover my head and upper body! In the future, I'll stay at the Kane Co. Forest Preserve campgrounds-- much MUCH nicer parks that have been built with RVers in mind. - WinnieViews
May 2014 - $20.00
This park is a bit hard to locate. It is actually located in Warrenville. Any RV campground in the Chicago is a rarity so even with some drawbacks we were glad to find this one. It is a large, beautiful and heavily-wooded oasis in a pretty congested area. Staff very friendly. Restrooms were immaculate even with heavy usage on a holiday weekend. The drawbacks are: (1) it is only open for Fri. and Sat. night camping except on holidays, (2) no and or sewer connections and the few water spigots will not allow for a hose to be connected so to fill your tank requires carrying water in containers to your RV. Sites are level and very spacious with site #64 being best located for the restrooms with showers. One unusual plus is that those over 65 get 1 free weekend per year. We would camp here again. - judb
Jun 2013 - $20.00
We've been visiting Blackwell for almost 40 years, but this is the first time we've camped there. We only live about 7 miles from there so it's an easy weekend. This is an oasis in the middle of suburbia. Heavily wooded sites, with level crushed gravel pads and now, electric at all sites, according to the attendant at the gatehouse. There are no water or sewer hookups, but there are spigots throughout the park. There is an adequate dump station, although it is not all that level, so your tanks may not fully empty. I remarked to my wife that whether we traveled three hours to Wisconsin or drove 7 miles to Blackwell, the end result is the same. Quiet camping in a lovely area. The one downside to this campground is that it's only open on weekends, except for holiday weeks when it's open for the entire week. Also making reservations entails calling the District HQ and booking over the phone. There is a three day reservation window which pretty much eliminates spur of the moment camping. The camping permits arrive by snail mail, so very last century. Still, it adds to the charm I suppose. We'll be back often. In the summer the crowds in Wisconsin can be frustrating, so this is a nice alternative if you just want a quiet weekend to camp without dealing with all the traffic. - baraff

This park is very good value for the money. It is located near some nice, small lakes and is very close to town. The facilities are well-maintained. We did not have cable, but received a number of air channels. The only problem was that the sites were a bit close together, but we did not have any noise problems from other campers. We would definitely return to this park. - John A Guderian
May 2018 - $32.00
We stayed a week for $225. As always the place is kept up well. Although early in the season, it was pretty full. The sites are close together or I'd give this park an excellent rating. Fishing and tennis court are pluses. This is the best place for West Chicago area stay. - exceltraveler
Apr 2018 - $40.00
Disappointed to find out that there is a $2 charge for each visitor. While I can understand this policy during peak camping when the park is full, it seemed unreasonable in off season. Sites are quite small - barely enough room for your tow vehicle. I would hesitate to use the fire ring with so little space! All hookups worked fine. Lots of room to walk a dog. - CJVJn1Doug

Rules, rules, rules with a side of rules. This park has more rules than any other we have stayed including Yellowstone. We arrived just after 10pm due to an issue with a flat tire. We had communicated along the way that we would be cutting it close due to the issue. This is the first rule we had to deal with (No arrivals past 10pm). We were greeted by a surly gentlemen who promptly informed me that my wife could go into the office to check us in but I needed to pull my 40ft 5th wheel back around because I was too far to the left. He said I needed to u-turn around the office, exit the park and come back in. Never mind the fact that there was a policeman doing paperwork in the right lane which I didn't want to box in. I refused to move and the man's wife eventually told me that I would be ok where I was. It took my wife 20 mins to check in largely due to the presentation of the rules of the park. There are some 24-27 rules that you need to acknowledge. Pulling in, the sites were tight and getting my rig in was a chore. The sites were not well taken care of either. The grass was long and the above ground fire pit was full of ash/burnt wood and trash. No water hookups and only 30 amp service. The park itself doesn't offer much in terms of activities and would be more aptly named chain-o-swamps as water access is minimal due to the marshy wetland area in which the park resides. Bring ample bug spray or you may need a transfusion when you get home. Pit toilets in the campground. Shower facilities were a hike. - Ben Keethler
Jul 2018 - $27.00
Stayed here while visiting Chicago. People in the check-in building were very friendly. Showers were clean, but the type of shower heads and water pressure was awful. They shower head was too high, so you barely got any water on you unless you are very tall. Also its the annoying push button type. The mosquitos were HORRIBLE!!!! We could not even sit outside. Each night before going to bed we had to kill mosquitos inside our camper. Approx. 10-20.I know the campground is surrounded by water, but surely they could could fog/spray throughout the campground occasionally. Also did not like the gritty stuff on the site.It rained while we were there and it was hard to keep from tracking it in the camper. We will not he returning here. - Gary Stanton
Jul 2018 - $25.00
There are not too many campgrounds available in the Chicago area. We tried Fish Lake once and it was terrible. This is our "go to" campground when we come to Chicago. Its clean and well maintained. Many hiking and biking trails are within the park. The signage on the trails needs to be replaced as the current ones are not readable. Lots of mosquitoes and deer flies. Bring bug repellent. Sites are large and relatively level. Sites are electric only. - Poe Dog
