We are from this area & stay at this park every year while visiting friends. The sites are large & the grass is thick. The campground hosts are friendly & fair. There is no sewer but there is a dump station. There is no cable or WI Fi. 99.99 percent of the sites are satellite friendly & the Chicago are provides a wealth of over the air stations. There are plenty of shopping & restaurants in the area. There are no other real campgrounds in the area. So we are glad to have this one. Sites are on a first come first serve basis & you can only stay two weeks at a time. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Motorhome.

Have stayed here before but has been a few years. Sad to see that they continue to have rude and unfriendly attendant return again this year but wont hire back friendly and helpful woman they have had for many years there previous. Nothing for children to do here but ride bikes or fish. Same campers hog sites for up to 2 weeks at a time. Is OK for an overnight stop. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Very clean campground, with only Water & electric available (we used 50 amp) It has 2 dump stations that are easily accessible. Concrete pads are pretty level, but we did have to dip our front end pretty heavily to level front to back. Large fire rings with firewood available for sale on site. They do have a rule about mat size and we did have to bring ours up, as I looked at all the tents pitched in RV sites (with no RV), so not sure what that issue was about. There are a lot of retailers pretty close by. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Yes, it is convenient for RVers to access Chicago via the Big Timber METRA station. Yes, it's well mowed, neat, and spiffy. But it's no RV utopia in my opinion. Cash only. Most sites are sloped in some way or form, and leveling is often required. There was often a ledge between the parking pad and grass, great for ankle twisting. There is really no privacy between sites. Except for ADA sites, there is no pad for sitting... you sit in the grass. But some sites are low, wet, and muddy. Water spigots are shared, and the potable water was LOADED with iron, actually staining our RV. Dogs at campsites often allowed to be free and to roam. Little rule enforcement. There are numerous trails for hiking. Two good dump stations. No sewer. It's pricey at $35 per night for non-Kane County residents for what you get. In any other location, a $35 fee without sewer, lengthy water connects, unlevel sites, and with low quality potable water would be unacceptable to most reviewers. This campground fee is about convenience to visit Chicago by train, and not about services received. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

METRA train to Chicago Union Station via Milwaukee West line was easy to use from Big Timber and Elgin. $10 to ride all weekend, good deal. Downtown Chicago was simply excellent. Loved the museums and Millennium Park, hated, did I say HATED, Navy Pier.

Excellent park easily accessed from main highway. Extra large mostly level asphalt pads at all sites. Electric tower easily accessed with 122 v. Water required 60 ft of hose to reach bib. Good OTA TV. Verizon with data and mobile. Gravel area for firepit. Will deliver wood to site. Excellent walking paths for people and dogs. Ponds had considerable algae. 90 minutes to downtown Chicago. Fuel, Home Depot and groceries close. We would stay again. Dump easy to use. There are already lots of good reviews but wanted to do ours. We really enjoyed this campground. It is clean, quiet, very well-maintained. There are a lot of good sites and some not quite as good for a motorhome (too much slope), but all sites are paved. Water is available, but this is one of the knocks in that there are shared sources for up to six users at once, and even with 75 feet of hose, we couldn't reach. No sewer (so the second knock) but there are dump station. Location is very convenient to stores and restaurants and there is a train line to Chicago only a few miles away. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park, paved sites. Some sites will need extra hoses for water hookup. No showers available, sewer hookups, or honey wagon service. Does have dump station. Showers and service that could come to site and pump out black and grey tanks would be a great improvement to the campground s. It would make it more enjoyable for campers that plan a longer stay. Very clean. Roads are paved and very easy to navigate. Large grassy areas between camp sites. Water is in center of some areas you will need extra hose. Lot was near level, back in. Only 4 pull thrus. 89 first come sites. Elgin offers excellent restaurants, easy access to train to go into Chicago. Dog friendly. Nicely mowed walking trails. We stay at this campground every year. Elgin is our hometown & this campground is very convenient for visiting friends & family. Lots of shopping & restaurants nearby. The sites are large, some with shade, some open with lots of grass. It is 50 amp with water. No problem getting satellite & more than a dozen stations over the air with a digital antenna. No sewer but two dump stations are available. No showers but there are restrooms. No reservations, first come, first serve. It is quiet. There are trails to walk. We love it here. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed 3 nights in a back in with 50 amps. There is no cable, but we got 22 stations on our over-the-air antenna. Satellite reception in the newer section would be good, due to smaller trees. Some of the site water hookups are far, so have a long hose with a water filter if needed. The water hookups are shared by two campers. Site 83 was in the newer section, where the trees are not as mature as the older section, so sunny. There is a dump station. The park staff are very nice and helpful people. The grounds and restrooms are nice and clean. It is a first come first serve park; no reservations. The roads are well maintained, and you park your rv on asphalt. Grass is around your camp site, with a picnic table and fire pit. You cannot bring in firewood, and they sell firewood at a reasonable price. We rested here, as it is quiet. We camped here to be close to Big Timber Station to take the METRA train to Union Station in Chicago. It rained while we were there, and a lot of water accumulated in the grass, but did not come on to the asphalt pad for our 5th wheel and truck. Our site was level, but a few sites are unlevel. The earlier you enter the campground in the day, the better choice of camp sites. We liked this campground, and we would definitely return if in the area in the future! Tips for other Campers:

There are several restaurants/fast food, and a laundromat close by off Big Timber Road. Our favorite was Jesters, where we had a delicious steak and chicken pita sandwiches. The locals love this restaurant for their sandwiches. A water taxi is right next to Union Station to take you to the Navy Pier and return you. We had great burgers at DNK? Burgers at the Navy Pier. Take the Architecture Boat Tour..awesome! Mellenium Park is very nice too!

Take the train to Chicago. Big Timber station is only 5 minutes from the campground, and is only open Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, you can take the METRA from Elgin. Riding the train was the best option for us to visit Chicago. You buy your tickets from the train staff on the train at $8. Parking lot tickets are $1.50 for the entire day for your auto. When you get to Union Station, buy your return ticket. If you don't, and you have to buy it from the train staff on the train on your return to Big Timber or Elgin, they will charge you another $5 per person.

This park is a first come, first serve kind of park. Pull in, find a spot to your liking, go pay. No reservations are taken. We were in a pull-through in what seems to be a newer part of this park, and while it was asphalt, wasn't dead level, which seems to be the case with most of the spots here. Not a big deal. Power and water only, with 2 spots you can dump. 1 in the camping area, 1 just outside. Place was clean and well maintained. Firewood 5$ a bundle, and they deliver. The trees in this part were still fairly new, so majority of spots in this section were full sun. When they mature, this will be a must-stop location. It was windier than a mug when we were there. Also, there seemed to be a lot of ticks floatin' around, so be aware. Overall, really liked this park. Quiet, close to the Big City, great for star gazing! Will stay there again. We love staying at this campground. It is the only one in the area. We visit friends & relatives while here. It is convenient to a multitude of restaurants & shopping of all kinds. The sites are spacious, hook ups well situated, it is quiet & the people are friendly, & satellite signal & over the air antenna signal are easy to get. The drawbacks are there is no sewer hook up but there are two dump stations. There are no reservations & you can only stay two weeks.
