10 RV Parks near Metropolis, Illinois
Sep 2019 - $30.00
Labor day holiday fee was $30 plus $5 reservation fee. Usual fee $20. The campground is two loops with back in packed small gravel level sites with generous well grassed spacing and scattered trees. No water at sites, but several faucets by the loop's road. Well designed dump by cg entrance. The park is about 5 miles east of I 24, on the edge of Metropolis, and right by and on high bluffs of the wide Ohio river. The park is large with excellent paved roads, extensive lush grass and many trees, with disc golf baskets, terrain both level and with ravines. There is a nice small well done history/office, a multi buildings replica of one of the early forts, and the outline ditching of an even earlier fort, and a large boat put in at the base of the bluffs. Lots of roads for biking. A really nice park, one of my all time favorites. - 210jem
Sep 2019 - $20.00
Quiet, spacious and shady. Good antenna TV and no internet. My only complaint is the shower or should I say faucet. The shower was a push button faucet that would go off like you see in rest area sinks and was difficult to turn to hot water. The entire bathroom floor was wet due to bad drainage. - rl1962
Jul 2019 - $20.00
We really enjoyed all that the area has to offer and Fort Massac Campground was the perfect spot to base out of. The surrounding area was very flooded by the Ohio River, so the trails within the park were impassable, but the campground itself was in good shape. Nice trees, but no problem getting our 5th wheel in. There is no water or sewer on sites. The fort displays in the visitor center are really interesting, and while you can’t visit inside the buildings, you can walk around the grounds. We would definitely stay here again. - Luv2Quilt
Sep 2019 - $35.00
Conveniently located just off I-24. Easy in and out. The section for big rigs is essentially a gravel parking lot and the sites are very close together. No grass at the site but there were several grassy areas for the dogs close by. This campground is average at best, but works just fine for an overnight stay. - John K
Sep 2019 - $32.00
Good location, near gas stations, restaurants, etc. Friendly staff. Level sites. Shade near pine trees. Fairly quiet, some road noise.
No picnic table. Bath house clean, but old. - SamMack
Sep 2019 - $35.00
Quick, friendly check in. Shown to our site which was a gravel lot. Lots of large pine trees gave relief from the very hot afternoon sun, so it was actually very good. Lake in the back is good to walk around. A few sites are back in with lake view. We liked this park and would return. - sp123
Jul 2019 - $35.00
We have stayed here before & will stay here again. They have always been very accommodating. There is a very nice dog park, large with lots of nice grass. There is some grass by the sites but I must say nowhere near what there used to be in years past. There is a laundry & a very nice pool. Cable & Wi Fi & satellite friendly. Lots of restaurants & shopping in Paducah. Garbage pick up at the site (can provided for each site). - Connie's Co-Owner
Jul 2019 - $32.00
Rate reflects Coast to Coast Good Neighbor rate. Easy access to interstate. - Mustcamp
Jul 2019 - $33.00
We stayed here just one night while passing through the area. The sites are very close together, but fine for a one night stay. Our site (18) was perfectly level - I've had concrete pads that were not as good! We wouldn't have even unhooked our truck but we had dinner reservations. Bathrooms were very clean. We didn't use the showers, but they were in individual rooms with a toilet and looked great. There is a pool but we did not have time to check it out. Only negative is how close the sites are. The inner roads were a little tight. Everything else was great. Verizon cell service was good. WiFi was decent, but not great. We would stay here again if passing through - very convenient to the interstate. - wanderfilledlife
Sep 2018 - $30.00
We were literally the only ones there, so difficult to review. We absolutely loved it and had beautiful views, but if it were packed with other RVs, it would have been quite different. I would say one should try to get a space (maybe site 10?) on end or edge to have wonderful views. Attractive pond in center. The owner or operator, is super nice-makes one feel really welcome. Apparently the nearby drag strip and raceway can be very noisy but they were empty while we were there. One might want to ask about that. - ClayLady
Jul 2018 - $33.00
This park is located about 4 miles off of I-24. The roads are narrow but manageable. It's in the middle of nowhere. Our pull through site was long and level but not much room between the sites. All the utilities worked well. Don't plan to get much use from the Wi-Fi because it took 30 minutes to update one app. Grass grows faster! Considering where it's located and no pool we believe it's over priced. It was okay for a one night stay but we're not sure we would stay here again because of the location. There were no car races on Sunday so we didn't have an issue with noise. - Gary T
Jun 2018 - $30.00
At time of reservation I was made aware of the race track and again at check in. I should have understood what a problem the track is when you are warned twice. The track is only 1/4 mile away and they did not stop until 12:15 a.m. The staff are friendly and park very clean. The sewer connection did require hose extension to reach as it is in the front 1/4 of site with electric & water in back 1/3. Water spigot leaked causing large mud area. No picnic table. Is well off the interstate so very quite when track is closed. Route in on public roads has low hanging tree limbs that contacted MH. Would stay again but only Sunday - Thursday nights due to track. - osok
Jul 2017 - $20.00
We enjoyed our stay at Dixon Springs. We were the only campers in our loop for the entire stay. This is a very clean, well maintained campground, the hosts were very friendly and helpful. We used this campground as a base while we explored Garden of Gods, Metropolis, Fort Massac State Park, Cave in the Rock and Tower Rock. We also canoed the Cache River in Ullin, and I would highly recommend White Crane Canoe rentals, it was beautiful. The only downside to this campground would be the lack of showers and restrooms, they are with the swimming pool and only open during the hours of 11:30 - 5:30. - rocker54
Jun 2007 - $15.00
Nice place to camp. We camp there often. They have volleyball, basketball and a nice park. Don't forget to check out the chocolate factory while you're there. - mely
Aug 2006 - $13.00
Excellent state park - and it's only 13 per day. We stayed on the host site, and it was fantastic. We have a 39' and it was a tight squeeze to get in. We stayed in August and were the only people there for 2 days - excellent park should you find yourself in Southern Illinois - Xelas
Aug 2015 - $24.00
Great place on the Ohio river our site had 50amp we had to have the front of the RV to the river which was good as the door and and windows opened on to a large area with good views of the river.
we arrived late but the owners came out and helped get the RV on the site, this is a very nice place on the river with good fishing for Carp and Catfish.
It was incredibly peaceful here with only the noise of the water, the passing barges and the coyotes in the nearby woods.
we will come back next time we come this way. - Hilary & Tony
Sep 2011 - $20.00
Nice park with riverfront sites on the Ohio River. We stayed for 1 week. We enjoyed watching the tugs and barges going up and down the river. We had nice weather, but it seemed quite breezy most times. Our site was under a security light so very bright at night. Try to avoid a site under the 2 or 3 lights. Riverfront utilities are side by side connections so you will have a close neighbor. - User2260
Jul 2011 - $23.00
Had a campsite right on the Ohio River which was kind of cool. We watched the barges go by. That is the good. Fair amount of seasonals that pretty much keep to themselves. This place floods about every Spring and this year was worse than normal. They were still recovering. Very sandy sites. Bathhouse was so far away most campers either didn't use it (us) or drove up to it. Not close to anything. Paducah is 30 minutes away and a cool place to be on a Sat. night. Probably wouldn't stay here again but if want to just hang around a campsite and watch the barges or maybe do some fishing, this would be just fine. Quiet. - welch

Jun 2019 - $16.00
Fine gravel campsites, mostly level, in a deep oak and hickory forest. Few campsites have a water view. Large sitting area, lots of trees in between sites for privacy. Easy self service check-in. Water connect was perfect. 30A electric outlet at our first chosen site was fried on the hot wire. I could hear it arcing in the outlet. Yikes. I yanked the plug and we changed sites. Only some sites have electric hookups. Miles of walking trails and old roadways, beautiful scenery. Great for dog walking. Lots of songbirds. Rustic USFS picnic shelters nearby, perhaps CCC? Unique fire rings. OTA TV excellent, lots of stations. Dark at night, quiet. Easy to find off of IL 145, well marked. Bring your supplies and fuel. No reservations. Have exact change, cash only. We would camp here again if in the area. - The Happy Traveler
Oct 2018 - $12.00
Excellent quiet forest camp experience. First several days in kayak on lake with fair success. Nearest restroom was closed for remodeling. Newer shower house was open and clean. Camp was 3/4 full during the week at electric sites and full for weekend. Kept kayak at lake shore with fishing gear for the week with no issues. Great camp if you enjoy the outdoors and NO RV Park atmosphere. Sites have gravel parking (some leveling boards may be needed) along a narrow roadway. Expect a little more difficulty backing in so have patience and a spotter. No reservations at this campground. Plan arrival accordingly as weekends you will normally find electric sites to be full. Most tent/non electric sites have room for RVs. Popular camp for Fall deer hunters do again camp maybe near full even in the fall early winter. - Pathfinder75
Oct 2016 - $16.00
A nice NFS campground with clean restroom/showers, operated by a concessionaire. As the previous poster noted, the rate was more than expected with the Senior Pass - $16, that's $6 off the usual $22 a night rate. Our site has a large gravel pad (80 feet long) with a large table and a rusted fire pit. Most other pads are also pretty large and had new fire pits. 20 and 30 amp service, voltage was always between 122 and 124 volts, the EMS never showed any errors. ATT cell service was non-existent and had to drive several miles for a signal. Several campers were there for the long haul, judging by their piles of firewood, and I never saw anyone at 4 of those. A three mile trail encircles the lake, and there's a beach on the other side of the lake, open in summer and gated off to vehicles the rest of the year. Canoe and rowboat rental from concessionaire. Roads are a bit confusing, as many drivers went the wrong way on the loops. - Hickory Nut
Sep 2019 - $40.00
We stopped here for a quick overnight at about 9PM. We had reserved online, arrived after hours, and went directly to our site, hooked up, and went to sleep. The next day, we decided to stay another night, reserved online and just stayed. The park was mostly empty. We chose a site away from the others. It was almost like we had the place to ourselves. That said, there's not a lot to do here. It's a new park, so there's not a lot of the amenities that other parks have - at least not yet. That being the case, the nightly rate is a bit steep. We essentially paid for a park with all of the amenities and didn't get the amenities. - KevinGY
Sep 2019 - $50.00
I preregistered online 2 months prior, for a full hookup site. Did NOT have sewer.
Then while leaving I needed 4 wheel drive to get up the last hill - short but steep.
Owner was friendly, but I will not stay here again. - Pfabe
Aug 2019 - $42.00
Four years as a full timer and stays at over 100 different rv parks, this was the worst. Low hanging branches, tight turns, trees and bushes scraping the side of our Coach, rude and uncaring attitude by the owner, and that's just for starters. Reserved and paid for a pull thru, but, was told to unhook the car. Unlevel spot, couldn't reach the sewer. The owner said "use your holding tanks, what's the big deal". Also said, "if you don't like it, I'll give your money back and you can leave". - PapaMike69
Sep 2018 - $43.00
This was a stopover. Although they advertised cable, there was none provided and the internet was down. The bathrooms were filthy and there was no hot water in the women's showers. This could be a beautiful place but needs a good cleaning and updating. Would not stop again. - Lemanuel
Jul 2019 - $29.00
Great place. Roads newly paved. Large swimming pool. Level sites. Shade. Extremely well maintained. Nice fishing lake. Good access to Paducah. This is what a first class RV campground should be! - Betsy from Ohio
Sep 2018 - $29.00
This is definitely an eclectic park! It contains what appears to be an old closed boat marina and open RV storage around a stunningly beautiful fishing lake with decorative fountain. There are two rustic cabins situated near the lake. There are few vacant sites. The property looks like a combination mobile home park, RV Park and gypsy encampment. Actual permanently located mobile homes and modern RVs on developed well-maintained sites sit next to 60's vintage RV's cluttered with belongings and cobbled up structures. This is not an indictment-people must make choices-but this is not your typical RV Park. That said, our site was level, clean and all utilities were convenient and reliable. Water pressure was 50 PSI at site #21 and it sported a concrete patio, picnic table and fire ring. Space was plentiful, trash dumpsters were reasonably close by and OTA TV reception was limited but clear. Laundry and showers were clean. There is a well-outfitted rec room and a nice children's playground. Propane is available on site. We stayed two nights. We felt safe and welcome. - TMN-15
Jul 2018 - $27.00
This is a park mostly for seasonals, so there are only about ten sites available to travelers. But they are pull thru's at the back of the park with some shade, so they are fine. Everyone was friendly. There is a small lake at the back of the park and lots of places to walk your dog. I would stay here again. - mary mcmoo
