We were looking for a new place between our usual ones in IL and MO and came across this park. Now that we've been here, it is well off the beaten path just like it looks on the map. For that reason, we will not return. It did have some nice features - many long fairly level back-in lots with lots of room to spread out, 30 amp that worked fine, and lots of peace and quiet. There were many nice tent sites as well. Fishermen may enjoy this park. We were the only folks in our area on a week night. The park employee we spoke to said they fill up only on the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. The second campground is more populated. Try there first unless you want to be totally alone as we were. - exceltraveler

This is a fine example of Illinois state parks. Clean, well spaced sites. If you want seclusion, this is the place. The nearest restaurants are 20+ miles away. Hunters, fishermen, and foragers will find a huge area for their interests. There is a separate equestrian campground within the park as well. - Thorfinn

Beautiful park. Lots of shade trees, etc. Very well kept. Enjoyed our stay for a few days before going on to Missouri. We are just traveling along slowly and where we take the notion to go next. We are headed for Mark Twain country in Hannibal, Missouri next. Very friendly people stay here. Quite a few of them said they come here regularly because it is so pleasant, clean and rates are reasonable. That is all true. Highly recommend anyone stay here. Children would enjoy it, too. Ours did! - skiparnd2

This city-owned park offers sites with water and electric, many of which are seasonally or permanently occupied. The park is neat, clean and provides facilities for group and community activities. Some sites are accessed by a steep single lane road in poor condition that carries traffic in both directions, luckily there is little traffic on it. We would return to this park due to close proximity to family. - never settled

Weinberg-King state park is located in Augusta, IL but Rushville is the closest town this website lists. Of the 19 sites, 12 have 50 amp and 7 have 30 amp service. Before we purchased our RV, I stayed there 1 night in April 2017 simply for a dark night astrophotography. I slept in my car during the day and worked at night. W-K is in the darkest area in Illinois. The park was empty being before the season and I had the entire state park to myself. During check in I explained my plans to the DNR person and he showed me places on the park map where I could drive to and setup for the night. The park is mostly used by campers with horses. The park has many miles of horse trails. There is also lots of hiking and fishing. For dark nights in Illinois only 4 hours from Chicago we'll always go back. - Rickycardo

We've spent a lot of time here. Heavily wooded and off the beaten trail. Two campgrounds with playgrounds for the kids. Not full hookup, but does have a dump station. Very clean, and the ranger is very friendly. - AdamBryner
