We stayed in a newer section of the park with FHU sites. Most sites were open and sunny. Older sections of the park had plenty of shade trees. All were large sites and well laid out. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Welcome respite after a long day on the road. Large spaces between sites. Gravel. Level. Lots of trees. We had a lakeside site, electric only. FHUs available. We can add another COE campground to our favorites. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This is definitely one of the nicest, cleanest, well groomed and well laid out COE we have camped at as of late. We are in a pull through that is huge, most pull through can get car, truck and boat in them. We have a 50 Amp, full hook up spot, here on a crowded weekend with no power issues at all.

The cg is likely out of the way for most travelers so it appears lots of locals, but if you want a couple of weeks of down time off the road, this may be a good choice for you.

The downside, if this bothers you... gravel site, the pull through do not have a fire pit per say, more like a fire grill that’s used as a fire pit. Effingham is likely the closest large town with Walmart, restaurants and big box stores, but it is 30 miles away. Local area has dollar general and limited fast food restaurants. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If in Effingham check out the Niemans Steak House.

Overall Rating:

A beautiful park with many camping sections with different services available. We did a walk-in on a Monday in October and were able to get the last remaining spot that was with a sewer connection. There were a few W/E sites still available at the time. Later that day, the campground was full, I'm not sure why since there didn't seem to be any special events in the area. Maybe everyone was migrating south like us. Our spot was not on the lake but a 4-minute walk and we were there. Although we didn't have a need, I did see a very nice boat launch area, fish cleaning station, and a really large dog run that included an obstacle course. We also didn't use the showers, laundry, or restrooms, but we peeked in and they all looked clean and well maintained. This is one of a couple of COEs on this lake. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Travel Trailer.

Can't beat the price we paid with the senior pass. Our site had full hook up and no problem getting satellite signal. Lots of grass for the dogs & lots of place to walk them. Staff is friendly. The sites are level. There are showers & a laundry. Didn't look at them so don't know how good they are & they were not in our section. The section we were in was not as crowded as the section where the showers were. We had a big rain storm the first night we were there. Our site flooded & stayed that way for the next 30 hours until we left. The other sites seemed okay so I guess we were a low spot. The park is quite a bit off the beaten path. We did get there even though GPS said there was no route to it. Mosquito like bugs in the grass were annoying but the flood seemed to have drowned them for the time being. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

The Red Apple restaurant in Sullivan is pretty good. Seems very popular with the locals. We had lunch there one day & breakfast the next. They are open for dinner, too.

This is a pretty big campground with several loops. Some are just electric, some have water, and some have sewer. Make sure you get what you want. Our GPS went a little whacky while at this campground because it seems they've rearranged the roads since Garmin updated the maps in their GPSs. Not a big deal though, the GPS got us to the campground alright. Some sites that are considered "waterfront" aren't really. They're on top of a hill that MIGHT have a view of the water through all the trees. Our site - 67 - did not have a water view. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

This COE CG had plenty of non-reservable sites so we were able to come in on a Monday and have our pick. We could have stayed here two weeks, we were here for 7 days. There are lots of sunny and shaded sites to pick from. The bathrooms are starting to show their age but for the price, this was acceptable. We will definitely come back. We camped at Forrest W. First stay at this park and we were very well pleased. We did not have reservations but arriving on a Monday we had plenty of sites to choose from. There are both shaded and sunny sites. We did notice the next day as we drove through all the loops that many sites were already reserved for the upcoming weekend and the following Labor Day weekend. The sites were large and there was ample space between sites. The park is very quiet, peaceful and great for outdoor enthusiasts. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Visit the local bakery in Sullivan, then stop in Arthur for freshly made pie. Make the route on to Arcola for shopping. Beautiful Amish country side so slow down and enjoy the ride.

This was a very nice campground. We were surprised that our site actually had full hook up like our reservation said. We have had problems at similar campgrounds that promise full hook up but only give you electric & water. The sites were huge, wide & long with lots of grass on both sides. They say they have showers, restrooms, dump station & even a coin laundry but we didn't use any of them. No problem getting satellite signal & the major channels were easy to get with an over the air digital antenna. The man who checked us in was very friendly. Looks like we have found a campground to stay at between Elgin, IL & Paducah, Ky. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

We generally love COE campgrounds, and this one is no exception. Large sites, mature trees, good utilities, clean restrooms, lots of area to walk with, or without, your dog. The Fall color was just spectacular while we were there. The campground is located in central Illinois "Amish country", so you may see a buggy or two if you drive around the countryside or into any of the local towns such as Arthur or Arcola. (Our $12.00 nightly rate was with our NPS senior discount card.) We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Used senior pass for rate. Stayed in electric only site as full hookup/water sites too crowded. Great site, back-in w/small view of arm of lake. Very quiet, secluded. Restrooms/showers barely usable, need cleaning more often and a fresh coat of paint. Would stay here again. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We selected this park because we were looking for and RV park near Decatur, IL. This park had the amenities we were looking for. The sites are spacious and the shade was welcome when the temperature hit 104 degrees. We would stay here again, if in the area. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Another fabulous Corps park. There are full hook up sites as well as electric/ water sites. And with the federal Golden Age Pass, the price is wonderful. The contract employees at the entry station were very accommodating although they did have rather strange hours (12-7). The park is kept up well and it's only about 3 miles into Sullivan with stores and restaurants. We would definitely return to this park. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Another nice COE park. Big level gravel sites, long enough for any RV and tow vehicle. Fire pits, lantern hook and full hook ups Water, sewer, 50 amp power and shade at most sites. The pull through sites are in the open but almost all of the back-ins are in front of the trees. Very clean restrooms and showers. The rate reflects GA discount. The lake is a very popular fishing lake for this area. I would definitely stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Fifth Wheel.
