We spent one night here. We stopped here so we could see the George Harrison Billboard Guitar mural prepared by John Cerney in Benton. These are great murals all around the country. This one is on I-57 southbound side. A very nice COE Park. Had full hookups which is unusual for our experience with COE parks. Was very busy for a COE park. Staff and campers were very friendly. Lots were not real level side-to-side. Many were very steep front to back and many campers were almost on the ground in the front and way high in the back. Drive around to pick out your best choice. Our lot was on relatively level ground front-to-back, and off level side-to-side. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

There is a large lake in this recreational area. Golf and lodges for large gatherings. Plus the Cerney Billboard once you get back on the interstate, headed to Benton.

Some of the sites in this COE have full hookups. We were in a beautiful back in site (#029) right on the water with full hookups. The site was quite sloped, and difficult to level our 40' fifth wheel, but we managed with being a little off. The beauty of the site was worth a degree or two off-level. Neighbors were far enough away that we had plenty of privacy and quiet. We put our dish near the water and had no trouble accessing DISH TV satellites. AT&T cell signal was okay. Interior roads were adequate to navigate. We loved this campground. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

As with most COE campgrounds, this one is well-maintained. The picnic tables are large and in good shape. The fire rings are cleaned as soon as a site is emptied. Trees are trimmed so that you don't scratch your camper. We had a great view of the lake from our site. There are a lot of trees, which is good for shade, but not for grass. It was pretty thin. Also, we were not able to use our satellite TV (Dish) because of the trees. Our neighbor couldn't get TV on his Direct satellite, either. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

I liked this park, but there are 32 seriously bad sites out of the 100 available. Sites are asphalt & well spread apart with paved interior roads. Most back-ins have a good angle with the road to make for an easy in/out. There's a gorgeous lake here for water sports plus plenty of room for kids to ride bikes & play. Sites have a fire pit & picnic table. There's no wifi and satellite access is unlikely due to trees. We picked up ABC & NBC on antenna. Verizon had a strong signal. There's one nice bathhouse and a couple of small out-buildings with toilet only. Some sites are 50A electric only while some are full hook up. You can see that info on their recreation.gov web page when selecting a site. There is a dump and several water spigots in the electric only sections. Pedestals are deep in the back of each site. Now for the caveats. Some sites are so wildly unlevel that I felt compelled to tally what I saw. Generally level sites: 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 37, 38, 42, 45, 46, 60, 62, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 74, 76, 78, 80, 87, 92, & 96. Front to Back down-sloping sites: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 30, 34, 36, 40, 44, 49, 50, 58, 67, 70, 79, 82, 83, 85, 93, 94, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100. Front to back up-sloping site: 41 Two pull-thrus (51 & 59) are okay in the middle but sloped up at both ends. I wouldn't take any of the following sites in a moderate sized fifth wheel or larger. A small travel trailer or pop-up might be okay or maybe you have mountain goat in your blood. Side to side sloping sites: 47, 64, 88, & 90. Both sloping down and side to side sloping sites: 22, 35, 43, 52, 53, 54, 61, 63, 66, & 75. These last few are laughable & unusable as they are better suited as ski jumps or skate board ramps: 1, 12, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 39, 48, 55, 56, 57, 65, 77, 81, 84, 86, & 91. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

A very clean park with spacious sites. There was a central water spigot for each section. Sites only had electric. Some sites were water front. The bathrooms and showers were clean. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We came here on Sunday afternoon in November expecting it to be pretty empty. Just the opposite. We didn't have reservations but we were able to get a decent site. It looked like most of the campers that were here were fisherman. This is a beautiful campground on Rend Lake with deep sites that are paved. The sites are not very level and take a little work to get level. We had to hunt for potable water for our fresh water tank. The water spigots scattered in the campground weren't close enough for our 50 feet of hose to reach. We drove around and found the dump station and were able to get water there. AT&T cell phone worked and so did Verizon MiFi. We used this campground just to stay overnight while traveling from Wisconsin to the south for the winter. I would definitely stay here again. This park was closed for a period last year while they installed new roads and full hook ups in part of the park. There are new bathhouses with family showers that combine tollets and showers. It is very convienent for a night stop over. Some of the sites are in need of leveling so I gave it a lower rating. I would stay here again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Totally disagree with previous reviews, written by locals who like to stay here to due cheap rates. They ask you when you check in to give this campground an excellent rating. Looking for more federal funds. LOTS of tenters, bathhouses were totally unacceptable, and no one is available to have the noise from tenters radios turned down. Definitely not an easy campground to get into. The locals have all of the full hook-up sites. Would never stay here again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

One of the good ones. Wide, spacious back-ins (and a few pull-throughs) all over the campground, some with full hook-ups, most just have electric. Some terrific views of lake available. Most sites are tree-shaded. Friendly attendants. Golf course and restaurant abuts campground. Good, clean, and family-friendly. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful COE park by the lake. Large sites, long asphalt pads with concrete patios, very few full hookups. We were just looking for an overnight stay but spent the weekend here. Since it was our first time here, it was a little tricky for us to find, you pull into what looks like an apartment complex, drive past a golf course and clubhouse, and the campground entrance is a few hundred more yards down the dark road. Definitely no pull thru sites here. Paving job on roads is uneven and a mess. Sites are extremely tight, very, very difficult to back into. Loud, rowdy young crowd staying here, cars and motorcyles up and down the roads from site to site all night long. No rangers or campground hosts to be found anywhere. Campers complained about our dogs, they would not have barked if there had not been so much traffic up and down our circle all night long. 50 amp service extremely weak, our needle on monitor was on red entire time. Would not ever stay here again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground just re-opened after being closed for renovations. There are now some sites with sewer and some sites with water, but not all of them have it. We couldn't use the sewer, I think because it was closed for the season already. We were here the last day they were open. This is a typically beautiful COE campground with a great lake. My cell phone (AT&T) worked fine, and we did get a couple of channels on the TV. My biggest issue here was the fact that even though they just renovated, the sites weren't that easy to get into. The pads are only 10 feet wide (but very long) and the road is narrow as well, and because it's pretty hilly in some areas, we were trying to back up without much room and visibility. Some sites were better than others. Also, many of the sites are extremely unlevel. Ours looked pretty level but we still had to use two yellow blocks. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Fifth Wheel.
