Traveling through and needed a one night stay. We like COE parks in general and this was another nice one. There are a number of different loops in the park area, which is situated around Rend Lake. The closer you get to the lake, the less level the sites. We had a good and level site, with water, sewer and 50 amp. Nearing the end of the season, but still nice and green. Lots of outdoor activities, and a god size town only a few miles away. We would use again, and would like to try in the summer. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice park on Rend Lake. Many sites have a view of the lake. While the sites are paved, they are not all level. Fortunately the one we had was fairly level. We only stayed one night as we were passing through, the campground is just off the highway, so it was very convenient. We would stay here again. Stopped in on our way back to WI. This is really a nice little campground. There are both reservable and non reservable sites. Awesome lakefront sites and views. Evening sunset is awesome. Large clean showers. The other campers we met were very nice. Eagle nest on the waters edge. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Most sites very unlevel. Nice COE especially during the week when it is quiet and peaceful. Weekends is extremely busy. 3 sites across from us had a total of 7 tents, 3 rv's, 3 trucks pulling boats and other vehicles. this was a common site on the weekend. Don't know what the "hosts" do. Would not stay here again on the weekend. Price is right. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Loved it!

Most sites are electric only, many are pretty level concrete. Bike path nearby is good for a ten mile out and back total. Has dump station and clean water available. Use your National Parks card for 1/2 off!!! We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Very good value with Golden Age pass. This COE park is just off of I-57 and very easy to get to and there is a lot to see and do in the area. You drive past the golf course pro shop to get to the campground. I am surprised that it has only been reviewed once before. But as mentioned in that review the sites are not level, most are sloped front to back and some of the slopes are severe. All sites are paved and most are very long. We came in with a list of available sites during the week in mid-May and found a fairly level site. But two of our rear tires still wanted to come off the ground; we did get level with a bit of maneuvering. Water is also available at the exit end of the dump station. Verizon voice and broadband both very good. TV via batwing was fair, ABC was strong, but both NBC and CBS would fade out during the day. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

The Double 'R' Bar across the lake on 154 in Sesser has a good local crowd and is a good bet to meet some local folks for info on things to see and do in the area.

It was a very nice COE campground, as all of the COEs have been that we have stayed in so far. Entrance to the campground is a little tricky as you have to take a road through a golf course to get back to the campsites. Our campground was pretty well occupied, but despite the heavy occupancy, it was quiet for the most part. The community water faucets was something we haven't experienced yet. I felt a little odd walking between campers to get water. Some of the sites are level, but most of the campers, including us, had to use levelers on our units. Showers were clean, and even included family showers for those with little ones. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

This park is a gem. Price alone makes stopping worthwhile. Lovely campground. Didn't have a reservation but plenty of sites were available on a Saturday. Had electric only, but water and sewer available on other sites. Spacious with large concrete patio. Note: Handicap sites are available to anyone. Also a beach, marina, "Boatels", golf course very close. Site 7 for $8 with Access Pass. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

This campground is only a minute from I-57 and is a great place to stop over while traveling. It is also a great warm season family and fisherman's campground. Right on Rend Lake. Some of the sites are not very level but many are. There are areas with full hookups. There is some traffic noise but not bad. Deer wander through at times. It is not open year around. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Excellent park and very convenient from the interstate for a nice overnight stay. I was able to get a site with water, 50 amp, and sewer. Most are electric only with water points throughout the park. Nice big dump station. Would be a great place for an extended stay. Golf course is "right there". If you play golf, fish or just enjoy the outdoors, this would be a great place for an extended stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park on a beautiful lake. We stayed on one of the full hookup sites. Our rate was based on the America Beautiful pass which is 1/2 the normal rate ($24). There are maybe 20-24 sites that have full hookups, the rest are electric only. All the sites are paved although they are narrow, but long, very long. They have cement picnic tables but some are in strange places. Ours is in the woods quite a ways from the site. Some of the sites would definitely be a challenge to level, although most away from the lake are level. This is a COE park. Definitely would stay here again. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Gosh, what a beautiful park! Extremely large, VERY spacious sites, hooks for lanterns to hang, large picnic tables. Beautiful views of the lake from all over the campground. There were a LOT of deer hunters the weekend we stayed. We couldn't use much of the great bike trail they have because it was hunting season, but we were still able to ride parts of it. Nice welcome center close by that houses an Illinois artists' gallery of great things for sale. The sewers were to be available in certain sections of the park but there were problems with government regulations so they were not operational as of yet. We used a senior pass to get the great rate we did. The park was scheduled to close Nov. 30. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Only reason this is not 'perfect 10' is no water/sewer. Otherwise this is one of our favorite campgrounds, especially since it stays open until the end of November when most nearby state and Corps of Engineers (COE) campgrounds are closed. We have used it only for easy one night stopovers along I-57. It is easily accessible from the interstate. We intend to come back and stay longer to enjoy the beautiful lakeside sites. Rate is based on them being COE which means they accept America the Beautiful Access Pass. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.
