Salamonie is our home away. This CG has been a favorite of ours for years. Close to home yet far enough to be away. We love that the CG is so spread out. There are a lot of water views and several that you can watch the boats come and go from Pirates Cove Marina.

I only gave 3 stars for value because of the online booking site now charges a fee to use their service after many years of not.

As far as the restroom cleanliness I don't feel that there isn't enough attention paid to the restrooms and showers by the staff. As busy as this CG is, it's essential that staff pay more attention to these areas especially since there are no full hook-up sites. Of course if there were more staff presence near the restrooms then the hooligans might stop their hooliganism. We camped at Salamonie Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We're beginning to see a trend at the State Recreation Areas (SRAs), in that they are VERY busy in the summer and seeing lots of kids, boaters and tent campers are commonplace. There was nary a vacant site in the whole campground, and the enforcement of 2 cars per site was nil. Lots of folks with multiple cars, tents, boats, parties, etc. throughout. If you're looking for quiet seclusion, this ain't your place. However, if you're desirous of being surrounded by lots of activity, with a large beach, multiple bank fishing sites, decent size marina with boat rentals, and a fairly well-stocked camp store with groceries and essentials, you'll like Salamonie. Be wary, there are several camp sites that aren't particularly level, so trust the online booking service when they say 'moderate' or 'severe' grade; they're not kidding. Our 30' TT fit fine on lot 62, which was listed as having a slight slope. Many of the sites are full sun, but there is an area of shaded, more private sites. There are some premium, lakefront sites available, but only a few. Get 'em while they're hot- book well in advance. There are corner, pull-through sites on EVERY corner, so it makes the campground look even more full. As is the norm with most SRAs, the staff does a great job keeping the shower houses clean, but they are aging structures (old fixtures, peeling paint, etc) and are in need of remodeling. Easy access to beach and marina from campground, nice interpretive center, hiking trails and garden for viewing, OTA TV is pretty good including network channels, strong ATT 4G cellular signal. Fresh water fill station in our loop was a bit unhandy, and was essentially blocked by a campsite. The marina will deliver firewood to your campsite, and it's reasonably priced. The grounds are well-kept, the staff was friendly, and there's lots of outdoors to enjoy. We'll camp here again. We camped at Salamonie Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Since this park is close to home we have camped here many times for a weekend get away. The park is ran by the Indiana DNR but the lake is controlled by the Corps of Engineers. The upside to this park is that there are many very nice campsites. The downside is that there are some very poor sites that are very small, crowded or unlevel. It helps to know the campground if making reservations. The weekends are generally full but the weekdays are not so potentially a good site is open and a little driving around could help find one. The drought took its toll this year and the lake is too low to allow swimming. Fishing can be erratic since it is a flood control reservoir and lake levels can fluctuate considerably. However, finding a site like in the 200 area (except 201) or the 188 area can be rewarding. Fifty amp is offered in a few select sites and there is no other hookups, but the DNR did add another dump station. There is a general fee to get into the park above the camping fee so be aware. Given the fact that we know the park it is still one of our favorite places to camp and of course we will camp here again. We camped at Salamonie Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This review is for the Lost Bridge West Modern Electric campground. (Salamonie rhymes with "alimony".) Hookups are electric only. Water is available in several places around the campground. There is a single dump station. We stayed in site #222. Site is mostly level and had a gorgeous lake view. The site descriptions on the DNR reservation site appear to be pretty accurate in terms of how level the sites are and how much sun/shade they get. Sites in general could be more level at least in the lake-view area of 218-246. 50 amp service is available in selected sites. Restrooms and showers are clean and modern. There are also pit toilets scattered around the campground, a little smelly. As out-of-state residents, we paid $5 on a Sunday to get into the park, a one-time fee. Lake-view sites are a little breezy (good sleeping). The campsites are on sand with grassy areas in between. The sites in the non-lake-view areas seem a little larger and more private. Big rigs would not fit in the 218-246 lake-view section. Check-in time is 2 pm, 5 pm on Sundays and holidays. Our Verizon cell phone service was a little weak but usable, as was the Verizon broadband service. This is a wonderful destination campground - bring your boat! We paid $94 for 5 nights (Sun-Thurs) including the reservation fee. We would stay here again if in the area. Use the map from the DNR website - our Garmin directed us to the north side of the lake for the state recreation area. We camped at Salamonie Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Our site was clean, shaded, somewhat private, and nice sized. There are 246 electric sites, 30 primitive sites, 38 primitive sites in the horsemen's camp area, and areas for youth tents. Some sites get very crowded due to extra vehicles, boats, trailers for wave runners, so check carefully on a site's dimensions when making reservations. This property is run by the US Army Corps of Engineers and Indiana Department of Natural Resources. During summer this is a 2,665 acre lake. There are marshes, ponds, and wetlands. Activities that can be done at this recreational area include: boating, waterskiing, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, geocaching, hiking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, and swimming at the beach. There is a marina (a private concession) that has boat rentals. We liked the park and wished we could stay extra days so that we could enjoy the holiday activities they had planned. The employees were very friendly. The entertainment we did get to see, a gospel singing group on Friday and a singer on Saturday night, were terrific. There were a few times (thankfully of short durations) when the electrical power went out in the loop we were in. Never found out why. Maybe because it was in the 90's and the air conditioners and crowds overloaded it. The campgrounds were very clean and well-kept but there was a bit of trash in the area of the fishing pier/ swimming beach area and one of the trail areas. Wish they would put trash cans in those areas. There is a shortage of shade in the fishing pier/ swimming beach area. I've decided that I'll purchase one of those beach cabana shelters or a tent canopy to take along incase we run into this situation again. The weather was sunny and around 90 degrees, a bit warm. We would stay at this park again. We camped at Salamonie Lake State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
