A beautiful respite and not that far off I-70. Several loops to choose from. Camp Gatekeeper very friendly and accommodating. Selected a site from his map but when we located it, knew it wouldn't work for our motorhome. Called him on the phone and he advised just change the number on the windshield tag to the site we determined would work. Park was getting ready for their annual history event the following weekend so was filling up with campers. Had a very pleasant stay and definitely will put them on our map for next year. - Racer and Friend

This campground is not friendly towards mountain bikers, which is unfortunate because there is a large mountain bike park a 1/2 mile away. One of the first things that was said to us was "the last time you people were here we had a lot of problems." This was our first time ever going there. There were a lot of mountain bikers staying that weekend and they all commented about how rude the staff was. They want to add a rule that you have to have an RV or tent on your site. One of our campers, after paying for his site got invited to stay in someone's RV that night, so he didn't put his tent up. One of the employees came over at 11:00 pm, when he was getting ready to go to bed, and started arguing with him to put up a tent. Another person was camping out of his van, he had a nice air mattress in the back and pretty much used it like a tent on wheels. They asked him 3x to put up a tent. He couldn't because his van was his tent. They said they are going to make the rule official and kick him out next time. Another downfall is that they don't take reservations. It's difficult to plan a vacation when you aren't even sure you will have a place to stay. Perhaps if you are just a regular person out there to fish it might be ok, but if you have a mountain bike anywhere they can see it, plan on having them drive past your site at least once an hour and scowl at you. The brick shower house lets you adjust the water temp, the red one does not. - Ames Bond

I stayed here three nights in Site 3 on the Oak Loop while passing through in a 27 foot motorhome with a tow car. Agree with other reviewers -- what a find. Lovely county park around lake. Only takes cash. There is a gas station about 2.5 miles south of the park and a Love's Truck stop about a mile north. Campground is on road on the east side of the lake -- day use area is on road that runs along west side of lake. Campsites are on peninsulas built out into the lake so most every site backs up to water. First part of road has very nice tent sites, then there is a red bathhouse and after that comes the electric sites. There are three peninsulas. Locals seem to favor the third -- River Birch. I was on the second peninsula --Oak -- and was the only camper on that peninsula all weekend (there were probably 10 on the River Birch peninsula). The campsites at the end of the peninsulas seem to be the favorite spots. The spots are gravel with grass and most have some shade. There are a couple pull throughs on the first peninsula that can take big rigs but they aren't on the water. Sites vary in size. You pick out your own site. Warning: if you have a big rig or you can't back up because of your tow bar the turnarounds at the end of the peninsulas are VERY tight -- as in mine was a tight turn for my CRV -- first peninsula better than others`. Unless you are going to use a pull through site (they aren't shown on the campground map for some reason) I suggest pulling over to the side of the road after the red bathhouse (the road is wide there) and unhooking your tow car and walking around to look at the sites. There are water spigots to fill up water tanks at the front end of each peninsula. Great walking trails on day use side of park. There is a beach but lake is closed to swimming. Playground is down the road from campground. Train noise but a ways off. Park folk still driving through at 9:15 at night. No alcohol. No 30 amp -- only 50. - SoloRed

Beautiful, out-of-the-way state park. It's an older park, but is well-maintained. The campground is a bit of a distance from most of the park amenities, but you can buy ice and firewood at the campground check-in. Our site had a partial lake view, one of the few on the outer loop that has that. There were several big rigs, even though the roads are a little tight. Some of the sites are more level than others. Our site was rated as 'level' but did require a minor adjustment. Very wooded and shaded campground; a few sites in full sun but most would have shade either in morning, evening or both. Ours had both. We were also pleased that it's a pretty quiet campground. No late night partiers, no uncontrolled dogs and children (you know what I'm talkin' about ;-). The town of Jasonville is a small town, but has a couple restaurants, Dollar General, IGA grocery, pharmacy, etc. There is also a very good campstore on site that is located in one of the first buildings on the property, built by the CCC in the 1930s. The park has a very nice pool with a huge slide which was popular for both campers and folks living nearby. The only thing that's a problem is that there is only one line to enter the campground. Even those with hang tags had to wait in line to get back into the park, while new visitors paid their fees and got their directions. The park check-in is also where you rent kayaks, etc., so the staff gets overwhelmed during peak hours. Needs addressed, but it's a minor inconvenience. We'll be back. - fastalker64

Rate does not include a one time entry fee of $7.00 for Indiana residents; it's a few bucks more for non-residents. One of the few Indiana State parks that has some full hook up sites (6 total.) Our site had nice separation from our neighbors on either side but backed up somewhat close to our neighbors behind, especially since all the foliage and trees had been removed presumably to install the utilities. The roads are paved, sites are crushed gravel. Gnats were pretty bad but that may just be the time of year. Restrooms were clean and showers had plenty of hot water. The campground has a couple playgrounds. TV reception is decent with about three local stations received. Cell phone service is very weak at best; many times we had no service at all with our At&t cell phones. The camp store is small but has the basics. There are many pretty hiking trails in the park and a swimming pool. Plenty of fishing opportunities as well with three boat launches and at least a couple fishing piers. There is very little shopping and eating options in the nearby towns of Jasonville and Coalmont although Jasonville does have a small grocery store. We found this park to be relaxing and a great location to simply unwind. - Fdwt994

I really like this place. It's huge, has lots of green space, and nice employees. The down side is there's no sewer hookups, people run back and forth with blue boys behind their golf carts. My Verizon cell-phone worked fine for getting online. - airstreamingypsy

The bathrooms were not open, probably because of the time of year. Staff was helpful. Only stayed overnight. - M. Schmidt

I don't understand why I'm the first to review this park. It's almost 500 acres, has a huge lake, golf, swimming, boating, fishing. It's simply wonderful. From the lovely employees at the gatehouse, to security, and the other campers. It's so large many campers have golf carts to get around. One night "Elvis" was there and gave a show. There's not much to do around town, not even a super Walmart but the campground has so much to do there's no need to leave. - airstreamingypsy

Nov 2018 - $45.00
This was a typical KOA, lots of sites in neat rows. It is nicely wooded which helps the looks and feel quite a bit. We found it to be a bit pricey ($50 including tax and KOA discount, for the cheapest pull-through site). Check-in was fast and friendly, and our site was level. We had good Verizon and AT&T signal, but Verizon was extremely slow (AT&T was fine). We were only here for two nights and it was below freezing the whole time so we didn't get out to see much of the campground. We'd stay again for a night or two while passing through. - LifeRebooted
Oct 2018 - $75.00
I have to say was kind of worried about this place after reading others reviews but was pleasantly surprised after getting here. The super deluxe sites are real nice with full hookups and full concrete pads. It hadn't had much rain so didn't see the flooding others have said. Looks like more gravel has been brought in for roads and pads. Little café that served breakfast in the morning and meals in the evenings. Nice, friendly staff. It's rated as a KOA Journey but we think it's a step above. Little tricky getting here off the interstate but our GPS worked just fine. - southernsky
Sep 2018 - $73.00
We stayed in one of their new deluxe patio sites with concrete pad, outdoor furniture and updated utilities which was a nice upgrade. Unfortunately there are only 4 of these sites available and the rest of the campground has the typical KOA sites consisting of close together, gravel sites with tight roads. My main complaint as with most KOA campgrounds is that the cost of staying in these campgrounds is high for the value provided. We've stayed in many campgrounds with concrete pads and roads, good spacing between sites and lots of grassy areas for significantly less than $75 at this KOA. The office staff was friendly and helpful. - Jacarl

Jun 2015 - $25.00
This is an unrestricted county park so the trailers/vehicles were a lot older and vintage, lets say. The turnarounds at the end of each loop were pretty tight and we are in a 21' TT. We just stopped there the night so could not delve into the amenities but the staff was nice. - Fizbin
Jul 2014 - $20.00
This is a county park with a lot of beautiful trees. Unfortunately the paved roads are very narrow with sharp turns. We drive a 34 foot motorhome and pull a car behind us. While trying to find a spot we had to unhook our car from the tow dolly to navigate a turn. When we called to make a reservation we asked if they had full hookup (water, electric and sewer). When we got there we were told no sewer, just a dump site. We decided to deal with it. We ended up not staying as the electric and water hook ups were about 100 feet apart and we could hook up to one but not the other. For us it was a very poor layout. - esta34950
Sep 2012 - $49.00
We stayed three nights. Very small spaces, had to go out and move my truck for they could come in with a motor home. Really not a place to park tow truck. Lots are really close together a picnic table can fit in between. Could never get cable to work. WIFI worked for me but not wife's computer. Couldn't put dish up a lot of trees, trees not bad really. The people where nice that checked us, when they finally got to the desk, we arrived at three pm. It took for ever to get checked in. If I was to stay another three nights I'D find another place, I would stay one night if I had to. 1st KOA I stayed in and they do want to nickel and dime you. My guests drove in, picked us up and the owner didn't say any thing, but the owner didn't see it, either. - JustDon

Clean, quiet, country campground that makes for a very pleasant basic stay. Owners are very friendly and live on site. Gravel sites and roads. Setting is very rural, but town is only about 3 miles away. Verizon cell service was excellent. No Wi-Fi in the park. Most sites are nicely shaded but open enough for easy satellite aiming. Would not hesitate to stay here again when in the area. - Edistobob

We stopped here for a night on our way through. One of the hosts is NOT a people person. We had already had a bad day there, and upon checking in, he sure didn't help matters. I asked for an ADA site as they were near the bathrooms, and he said they were for wheelchair people. When you talk to him and he doesn't like what you say, he just shrugs his shoulders. Not a friendly people person at all. The following morning, I did meet another host couple who we didn't know were there. Very friendly people. Sure wish we had met them when we got there as it would have made a huge difference in making our day better. Other than a host who I feel doesn't care about people, the place was clean, other staff great, and we drove down to the store to get ice. Reasonable prices at the store too. Bathrooms and showers were clean and water was nice and hot too. The park itself is clean, sites are spacious & shady, with water nearby all of them. Bathrooms are clean, along with the showers. The pull in sites are mostly back ins but have plenty of room for all size campers. - happy2013camper
May 2016 - $32.00
Scenic park in rural setting with lots of trees. The hosts were a hoot, and very helpful. The condition of the park is immaculate. The sites are situated well - the park was full when I was there, and everyone seemed to have a fair degree of privacy. Verizon barely registers from time to time, but with an antenna works ok. There is no wifi and no other carriers here. The road around the park is great for bikeriding. - KAP99

Scenic campground around lakes run by a super nice couple. Park started in 1969 and is stuck in a time warp. Not big rig friendly...plus bring extra water and slinky to reach shared water spigots. Water pressure and electric were strong but no internet nor cable. Playground equipment was ancient as was washer and dryer in laundry. Sites are not numbered since they lead you to a spot where you should fit. Heavily shaded with mature Shagbark hickories. - Jitime40
