This is a beautiful park nestled in the woods. Our site (204) was easy to get into with our 41' fifth wheel. I would give it a 10 except for two problems. The first and biggest was the site is very sloped left to right. Our curb-side tires are 8" off the ground! The other problem is that the table and patio are on the driver's side. It is very quiet and peaceful here. A lot of the sites only have electric. We had a hard time parking our truck off of the road. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park in Hoosier National Forest. The sites are well separated by trees. Lots of shade. About half the sites have electric, a few with water. No sewers, but there is an easy access dump station that fits 2 RVs simultaneously. We have a 40' fifth wheel, and quite a few sites fit us in. Also, about half the campground is reservable, the other half is first come, first served. There is a nice beach, and a boat ramp for Lake Monroe in the park. Also 2 rustic cabins. Campground is kept very clean and hosts are great! We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Our last visit was six years ago. The place is just as beautiful as ever. This is true camping in the great outdoors. Sites are far apart with lots of trees. It gets very, very quiet here- even during the day. The restroom in our loop (Holland) was old but functional and cleaned well daily. We did have an issue with the shower water temperature (water was dangerously hot) but it was resolved immediately upon our report. The hosts were so nice and went out of their way to help. The beach was also clean with nice sand and dredged. There were restrooms and a playground at the beach as well. Even during the "peak" time of summer the place was never crowded, and during mid week we were the only campers in our entire loop. Some improvements would be the addition of a playground in at least a couple more loops (only one loop and the beach have a playground) as the loops are far apart. Also, a camp store would be nice as well as a few more hiking trails. Finally, we'd like to see a few more sites with water hookups. Very few sites have water. Nonetheless, we look forward to our return. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

If you're looking for a quiet place to just relax and chill out this park is the place. Beautiful lake and largest lake in Indiana so bring your water toys. No camp store but Bloomington is close by and you can buy ice and fire wood from the front gate when you check in. Our site was very shady and lots of privacy as there are trees in between most of the sites. I highly recommend this Park and will go back in the fall. There is no sewer hook up only electricity. Dump station available and there are places for you to fill your water tanks. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for 4 nights, mid week we had the campground loop to ourselves on the weekend the loop filled up with boaters for Monroe Lake. our site was huge so we had no close campers. Staff was excellent Beach was nice and the water warm. By the time we left on Sunday the loop was deserted . We will return as its only 1 1/2 hours from our house and with the senior pass it makes this campground an outstanding value. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Typical federal park. No sewer, but we did get a spot with water and electric. Showers were old and out dated, in need of remodel. Only one shower available in our section. The pad was gravel, somewhat level. We had a picnic table and fire ring. It rained one of the days and the drainage was good. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay. End of season so Southern Loop was only campground open. No facilities this time of year except for pit toilets. Looks like a combination of gravel and asphalt sites. Roads are paved. Quiet, peaceful. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground away from any cities. We loved the quiet and solitude of these beautiful woods. The staff were exceptionally polite and very willing to help us find a site. We were not able to get satellite service here, but our Verizon worked well. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Beware, the entrance gate has a low clearance, and is not well marked. We were told by personnel that it has been replaced several times. If you have a big rig, go to the right of the entrance gate to get in.

Stunning woods. Huge sites. Well-cared for facilities. Nicest hosts and staff ever. Seriously, this is an incredible campground. We stayed here for two nights mid-week in June and nearly had only four other campers on our spur of 16 or so sites. The check-in staff were friendly and helpful, answering our questions with the same excitement we had for our trip. The hosts at both our spur and at the beach were as pleasant as could be. I was amazed at how much they all seemed to genuinely love working there. The only downside, as mentioned by others, there are no nearby stores, so make sure you have everything you need with you. If you love peace, quiet, woods and space...you'll love Hardin Ridge. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Must visits: the beach, hike the trail to the beach, bike within the park.

Bloomington (Home of Indiana University) and Nashville (Quaint shopping village) would make great day trips if you're looking for more activity.

We originally intended to spend one night here on our way home, but we like it so much we signed up for a second night. The sights are nicely spaced and private, with excellent tree cover. There are several loops to choose from, as well as a couple walking trails. We would definitely return. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Our first time at Hardin Ridge, and this is one of the natural beauty parks in Indiana. Folks around here point to Brown County SP as the most scenic, but Hardin Ridge gives it a run for its money, plus Hardin Ridge has access to Lake Monroe. This park has HUGE sites, private and wooded. It's a mix of tent campers and RV campers. It's very quiet, well-maintained, park staff is friendly, trails are nice, fishing is good. We really enjoyed it. Word to the wise, though: some of the sites have a LOT of slope and aren't really motorhome or big TT friendly. Trust the descriptions on the booking site, or call. We'd give it a '10' if there was a camp store or one close by. Gotta drive about 8 miles to get to a bait shop/convenience store/gas station. Over-the-air TV is sparse, cell signal (AT&T) is good. If you've got kids, the 'playground' is the woods and water. We visited nearby Paynetown SRA, and that's where the party is: bigger beach, rental marina, camp store, louder, more packed in, etc. If you want a quiet, back-to-nature experience (but also want clean restrooms and water/electric hookup sites available) this is your spot. We've already booked our next visit. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This was our second time staying at Hardin Ridge in three years and we are just as pleased as the first time. The campground has replaced a few more of the shower houses and restrooms with modern buildings that have individual shower stalls and they are all clean. There are still only 13 sites with water hookups, that would be something that could improve. There is also only one playground in the camping area (Blue Gill Loop) as opposed to two in the past. Regardless, this is still a beautiful park. None of the sites back up to each other and are very well separated with dense forest. It seems as though this is an unknown campground because the nearby state facility (Paynetown) had many more campers with a campground that is not nearly as pretty. If you are looking for someplace quiet and truly surrounded by nature, this is a great place to go. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

An absolutely beautiful park. There is good separation between sites with heavy forest providing privacy. None of the sites back up to each other so you have a forest view out your back window. There are 6 roads or streets off the main road each with a circle drive at the end, the road we camped on (site #144, water, 50A electric) had no other campers. We camped in the middle of the week in early September. There are only 5 sites with water and 50A electric. None of the sites have sewer hookups but a dump station is provided. Big rig friendly, we had no difficulty in navigating in and out of the park and campsite with our 38' fifth wheel. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. The rate of $17 reflects the use of a Seniors Pass. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Classic state park campground. Sites are highly variable. Some could hold two 40 ft class A motor homes and some barely a tent. Hook-ups vary as well (from none to 50 amp with water). Don't bet on a level site either. Make sure you do your homework. That being said, a beautiful campground with wonderful hosts. Great access to Lake Monroe. Bloomington is 30-45 min away. Only downside is the directions from the local highway could be a lot better. Would definitely go back again. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very peaceful, natural setting. Although sites vary greatly in size, all are nicely spaced from each other affording good privacy. There are several loops; a couple of the loops have no hookups whatsoever. Many of the sites have electric only, however a few also have water hookups. The "White Oak" loop has a new restroom / shower house, and a new restroom / shower house is under construction in the "Pine" loop. The showers are private rooms. The restrooms were clean. There is access to the reservoir with a boat ramp and docks. There are a couple of hiking trails within the park but many more in the area. This is a particularly beautiful part of the state with rolling hills and deep forests. Day and night we found the park to be quiet and very relaxing; even during the weekend when the occupancy rate was higher. Our AT&T cell phone worked well and we received several T.V. stations with our digital TV. There is no camp store however firewood is sold for $5. Nice sized bundle for the price. A super Wal-Mart is approximately 16 miles away in Bloomington. Bloomington is worth a visit for the day with its cultural attractions and numerous unique restaurants. We camped at Hoosier/Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
