The campsites were paved but required plates to level the RV. There is electricity but no water at the sites. Lots of sites available during the week. Was able to get several over-the-air TV channels. The campgrounds seemed more like an RV park than a state park, in a bad way. As we set up, two groups of people were sitting in their campsites but essentially our campsites and watching our every move. Sites were too close together and no separation! Interesting hikes to Lincoln's sister's grave and the moon tree. - J and C
May 2016 - $18.00
The only reason we will stay at this park again is because we strolled through and made a list of the better sites, knowing which ones to ask for, next time.
There isn't much conformity in the sites, with a few being paved, but most are gravel. Many of those need a dose of Roundup to kill the vegetation that is taking over the parking site or -better yet- just bring in more gravel.
The park has a drainage problem. We were assigned a site that meant stepping right into a puddle when we exited our Class C. We had to go buy a tarp to lay over the puddle so that the dogs wouldn't track in a mess. When we walked the grounds, we noticed many of the sites had problems with standing water. That probably bodes poorly for later in the year, with mosquitoes.
The showers are OK. One thing to note is that they are "army showers." The water stays on for about 45 seconds and then you have to push the button for more. The cubicles are very small; the outside section where you leave your clothes is very-very small.
One thing I like is the presence of a security rover, around-the-clock. Not that this is a dangerous area, but it is nice to have someone to flag down if there is trouble.
Overall, it is an OK park. Quiet, in a very scenic area, but there aren't many conveniences, for all that it's a touristy spot. We will probably stay again, but this time I know which site to ask for. - ChinTravelers
Oct 2015 - $20.00
We have stayed here three times in our travels around the country! This is my favorite park! We have only ever been here on October and it is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The leaves are yellow, orange, purple ....exquisite!
This last time it rained and we were in our Motorola looking at the lake enjoying the view.....very cozy. The people are so nice! We will come again perhaps a different season. - Brandl

The park has a Christmas Theme and is not big rig friendly. All sites are narrow back in accessible through narrow tree covered roads. The park supports the adjacent amusement theme park. Internet was good. Couldn't deploy satellite due to trees. Nice camp stores. Lots of "park rangers" to help back you back in. This is a large park that almost mandates renting golf carts (and they rent them). That said, there is more of a "feel" of camping in the woods. The park is clean and well managed. Kids would love this place. - Russ60
Jul 2017 - $210.00
This is our 3rd and last visit. Rental king park model camper. Had to wait 1.5 hrs after check-in, as they had not prepped our rental. Trailer was full of ants, had to keep ALL food items in the fridge. Floor in master bath near shower was rotting out. Sagged if you stepped on it. Had a bad thunderstorm, roof leaked flooded floor in master bath and also at the other end of the camper near the kitchen. Disapointing to say the least! - Scott Grimes
Jul 2017 - $71.00
We stayed here on a Saturday before July 4th. Our site was trashy and there were remnants from sewer. We called the check in booth, told them about the nasty site and asked them if they can give us a different site. They were very accommodating and gave us a couple of options but not much better than what we initially had. We settled for a different site. Granted it was a holiday and busy weekend, Lake Rudolph management should have been on top of this.
It's convenient if you're visiting Holiday World but $71 a night is pricey for what you get. They used to offer Good Sam's discount but not anymore. - RTDenn

Rundown, hard to find place. We tried two different sites to find electricity, but no luck. No shade, too many mosquitos. We told managers, we were leaving, could not stay with no power, temperature was 105 degrees. - Joe Bounder

Reservations are NOT accepted. Sites are available on a "first come" basis. Pull in and pick the site you want. Any empty site is available. This is a nice quiet family park. There are several play areas and a basketball court as well as covered shelter houses. It fills up quickly with local campers so it's best to arrive early in the week. - kc9mls

Mar 2018 - $20.00
Very quiet. The wagon wheels are difficult with a 32' trailer. I would try to get one of the full hookup pull thru sites, unless you have a shorter unit. Getting into the sites is very tight. They need to be larger in diameter. Everything is convenient for hooking up. Staff is very friendly and helpful. When coming into Boonville on hwy 61, don't turn onto Poplar. Its a very difficult turn onto a narrow street. I'd go through the town square and go straight onto another East bound street. Then turn left several streets down to get to Poplar. - chucky2
Oct 2016 - $25.00
Nice campground with a big fishing and swimming lake, playgrounds, shelter houses, four rental cottages and an enclosed pavilion available to rent.
The only negative about this park is that the sites are gravel and there's very little of it. The area around the campers are very loose dirt that tracks into the camper. It would have been much worse had it been rainy and turned to mud. - kc9mls
Aug 2016 - $20.00
A small, wooded, public park. My site was in the open. Some longer term guests were evident. Staff at the front desk were friendly. Flat gravel sites, I had to back into site #26 but thank heavens the site in front was open so I went in and back in straight. Good AT&T and Verizon signal, no wifi. - RVStudent

Just stayed overnight. Seemed to be a well-kept, clean park and would certainly stay again when in the area. - hartk
Sep 2017 - $22.00
Great value for full 50 amp hookups! Sites are close together, but everyone has been very friendly. Park was filled on the weekend we were there (no holiday). There's a playground for kids and area is very well maintained, clean and quiet. Hiking trails are grown over but there are drives you can walk. Local police also patrol area. - Cajun Nana
Jul 2017 - $22.00
This city run park is good for travelers on I-64. I had made an advance reservation and was booked for site 11. Arrived in early afternoon but no one was at check-in. Went directly to the site and set up. Nothing fancy about the park, good basic utilities. Took a walk around the campground and looked at the lake. The lake is a result of coal mining back in the 70's and stretches for miles. It looked clean and people catch fish. Good cell service and sites are open sunlight so had good satellite service. On exit the next morning the attendant was at the check-in booth so paid my camping fee on the way out. Will stay here again for the convenience to the interstate. - Nautilus

We stayed at Tipsaw in the hot of July and had a ball! The water is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained! The electric hook ups were very helpful and the bath houses were extremely close and all around us. This park is very very well kept up with, they clean up every bit of trash possible, clean out the fire pits every morning and restock bath houses daily. They were extremely helpful anytime we needed something and also very friendly. They have firewood, ice and almost any other camping supply you would need. - just1morebasket
Jul 2010 - $20.00
Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area is tranquil and serene. This small, blissfully quiet lake (no speedboats allowed) has a large beach and picnic area, both well maintained. The campgrounds are on a ridge above the lake (no view). Catbrier Loop has 10 sites, all with electric and water. Catbrier is a lovely park-like setting, with flat grassy areas, numerous trees, and large, spacious sites with concrete grid pads. This loop also has a picnic pavilion and two privy restrooms. A 1/2 mile trail to the beach is located in the back. Dogwood and Jackpine loops have some electric sites and communal water faucets. Those loops offer deep-woods shaded sites, and very nice bathhouses plus other privies are located throughout. CG Hosts are present in each loop, and keep the areas well maintained. We spent an excellent weekend floating in the lake, and watching the abundant wildlife: deer, fox, turtles, bats, cranes, and legions of butterflies. At the end of July, these campgrounds were less than half full, we felt we had the place to ourselves! We will definitely return to Tipsaw Lake and the Catbrier campground. - Flying Mantis
May 2008 - $20.00
This is a very nice and quiet family campground. Heavily forested with a lot of privacy. Even on a busy holiday weekend it was quiet. This is a nice relaxing place with a nice beach and play area for the kids. The play area is not by the campground though, it is over the hill by the beach. - camping hoosiers

Awesome campground for a quiet peaceful weekend. Not a lot of extra amenities, but there is a swimming lake, walking trails, fishing, and a playground. There are ducks and geese to watch. The camp manager is very friendly and helpful. This is a small, beautiful, peaceful campground. We will return. - KellyF

Rustic, pit toilets, but decently clean and maintained. Most spots are large, but some are very small and have steep angles. - dbng
Aug 2013 - $22.00
One of the prettiest parks I have ever been in. Excellent experience in my 27 foot Class A. Very friendly host guided me into my level, long site, albeit surrounded by poison ivy. Then he brought me some tomatoes from his (nearby home) garden. A nice treat. Interior roadways are nicely paved but narrow, but navigable. Electric only. Limited air antenna reception, but I sure didn't care, it was so beautiful. Lake and boat launch. RV dump site up the road 3 miles at another facility, but that didn't bother me. Site very clean, fire pit empty, leaves blown, no cigarette butts!! I would come back here again!!! - NJ_Snowbird
Aug 2012 - $22.00
There are a few sites that will accommodate big rigs/multiple slides, but access roads are narrow. Paved and gravel sites, more suited to small/medium rigs, pop-ups, truck campers, and tents. Some sites are more suited for small rigs, as front to back leveling could be a challenge for longer trailers and MHs. Level tent pads at each site. Spotless bathrooms and showers are well maintained and well stocked. - quicksilver812
