Very pleased with this city campground. The view of the Ohio River and bridge is outstanding - CG is just a few yards from the river. Head-first motorhome parking is permitted so you can see the river out your windshield. The sites are a bit close together, but parking is angled so adjacent rigs won't spoil your view. Paved pads are narrow and there's a slim margin of grass between, but the back side (river side) is wide open. You may need to double up power cords or water hoses to reach the pedestal depending on how you park. Night time lighting is subdued - not harsh as other reviews have complained. The CG is located on the east side of the bridge on a quiet residential street. A short walk beyond the bridge will pick up the lovely paved river walk, part of Madison's park system. Downtown is a few short blocks away, easy to walk or bike. Golf cart rentals are available at the marina at the far west end of Vaughn Drive, but it would be a hefty hike to get there. Really enjoyed this city park for its river location and proximity to downtown. It's not a luxury resort, but it's more than adequate for a couple of days to tour Madison. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is located in a closer area to all the attractions that are available to see in town. We were able to have WiFi, which made it easy to help navigate town. We paid a $5 deposit for a restroom key, which I did not mind as it kept transients out, it was refundable. We were told that showers were nothing to write home about at the start. They were acceptable for showering. We have a class A and were told we could either pull in or back in depending if we wanted the view or not. Would return to this campground as the view is worth the price. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Motorhome.

1. Horrible Bathroom/Shower (that you have to leave a 5.00 deposit to get a key). The conditions of the facilities is not acceptable. I wouldn't take a shower here even if I hadn't bathed in weeks. Water dripped on my head, from the ceiling skylight, as I used the toilet. Just BAD! 2. Standing water and mud everywhere... our campsite flooded with a small shower. 3. THE CRAZY bright street lights over every site... blaring all night long!!! Really, this is not camping! 4. The spaces are so tight that you can reach out a touch the campers next to you... our neighbors started slamming car doors at 6:15am on Sunday morning. Once I was awakened, I started counting... 40+ door slams before these idiots pulled away and left. Simply unexplainably rude!!! I know this is not the campgrounds fault... but, this shows you what kind of visitors you'll find here. Pro: The camp host was nice and tried to help us with a good attitude. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

While there are sites on the north side of the one campground road, the sites on the river side are by far the most popular. The Ohio River is right outside your rear window (or if you pull a motor home in nose first, it's right outside your front window). The campsites, themselves, are way too close together putting your neighbors on either side just a few steps away. If there's any redeeming point about the spacing it's that each site is at a pretty hard angle making your "front" yard also your neighbor's "back" yard. If everyone just uses their front yard there's enough room for you to use the picnic table and set out some lawn chairs to watch the river. However, if your neighbor in a motorhome happens to want to pull in nose first that scheme is messed up and you end up with the front door of their RV matching up with the front door of yours - creating a shared front yard. On the other hand, the utility hookups actually support this approach because the water/electric hookups are on every other site. If you get an even numbered site they are on the normal, driver's side of the rig (when backing in). Otherwise, you either pull in nose first or you have to pass the hose/electric under the camper. There are no sewer hookups in the campground, but there is a dump station. The campground has for-pay WiFi. We didn't use it as our Verizon signal was a strong 4G. Also satellite TV was easy to get - after all you are basically aiming it out over the river and there are no trees in play. The bathrooms are old and worn but reasonably clean and in working condition. Because of the public nature of the campground (right along a city street) you pay a $5 deposit to get a bathroom key. The number of sites is limited so, if you are coming during the busy time of the year I strongly suggest you call ahead for reservations - especially if you want a riverside spot. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

A short distance from the campground is a very nice city river-front walking area. Historic downtown Madison is also a short distance away with interesting shops and nicely preserved architecture, harkening back to the day when riverboats plied the waters

Check-in very smooth. Friendly campground host. Sites VERY tight! Mostly level pads. $5.00 key deposit for shower/restrooms, refundable upon check-out. Clean but peeling paint. Ok for shower, plenty of pressure and hot water. Additional fee for Wi-Fi. $1day/$5week. Signal for Wi-Fi did not reach site, but short walk to Gazebo for excellent signal. Campground was at capacity during our stay. With that getting into some spots could prove to be difficult with awnings. The views of the river are second to none. Watching the river traffic was a great way to relax from our trip into Downtown Madison. Just a short drive away. We would stay here again. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The rating is based on the view and surrounding beauty - Madison is a great little town. CG sites are narrow, back-in only (not pull-throughs listed on RVParkReviews), electrical and water (you will need long hoses), and there is a dump station. Paved site to park on; slight inclines. Bathrooms are older with peeling paint but okay for a shower. Host is very helpful. If you are energetic, you can walk into town. Vaughn Street is blocked due to construction on the bridge so you will need to drive on 56 to the far east side of town (past the bridge) and then turn right on Ferry St. The CG is at the bottom of the hill, on the left, next to the river. We would definitely camp here again. FYI: there is a good laundry facility on Main St, west end of town. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Tent Trailer.

This is a little gem on the Ohio River. Would be a 10 if it had full hook up. Host extremely friendly and helpful. Great area with small town atmosphere. Good restaurants very close by. Relaxing watching river traffic. There is some question about being open next year due to new bridge construction. Supposedly is going to be done over the winter. Hope this park doesn't go away. Needs a little upgrading, but the views and town make up for it. Will definitely be back again! We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Motorhome.

Main reason for writing is: This park will NOT, repeat NOT, be open in 2011, because it will become the staging area for the ferry which will operate while the bridge, right next to this park, is being enlarged. It will take at least 18 months to complete that project. At this time, it is not known if this park will reopen after that. I suggest calling just in case things change. What a spot on the river!!!! Watching the barges with a view of the bridge at night with a huge campfire was a great way to end our 3.5 month southern trip. The town is so full of history and incredible architecture, outstanding!!! Of course, we'd like cable TV and Wi-Fi, but the aesthetics blew us away and we didn't need the techy stuff. We'll stop here every year on our way back to MI. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We had a nice campsite right on the Ohio River. We were here with only 7 or 8 other campers. Things might get pretty tight if the campground is full, as camp sites are close together. Eighteen sites are right on the banks of the Ohio River, where we could sit and watch barges go by. The campground is pretty quiet for an urban setting. The bathrooms are so old, it is hard to tell whether or not they were clean. We camped at City of Madison Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A great place to camp if you like the River. There are 18 riverfont sites that are clean, level ,paved sites with mature trees. The owners/Managers are extremely nice and very helpful. It's always a pleasure to stay here. I visit at least once a year. Madison itself is a very neat town with lots of stores and restaurants. North Madison has the big stores such as Walmart, etc. , but the old town is preserved to historical value. I plan to stay again, and again. My Teardrop camper is always a conversation piece.
