Beautiful large park developed by COE. Camped among mature trees. Very quiet. Only complaint was the slope of our site. All the sites in our circle were on slope. There are many other sites that were level. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Motorhome.

A very full campground, lake and beach on a perfect summer weekend. Our site was rated as a moderate slope and to the rear of the site it dropped off pretty fast, had no problems getting level with the help of a few boards. Campground was quite even with all the boat and car traffic. AT&T service was 1 or 2 bars at best, OTA channels where easily accessed. We found the staff helpful and friendly. Typical Indiana state park. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Motorhome.

The Park is spotless. New roads. Like new shower house. My complaint is there are only a few level campsites. When Reserve America says a slight grade expect 6-8 degrees. Not good. Our first site was paved but at a nasty slope. The check in girl said we are full and I can not help. After we set up a DNR security person drove up with a list of available sites. We moved to be closer to a bath house. No water or hook up at most Indiana State campgrounds. The new site was at a large angle and gravel. We will remember the slope but it worked for us. We stayed there to be near the bridge festival. We stayed Monday through Thursday. The campground was full but quiet.

We had trouble finding our way in and out of our camp site. During the dark it was a hoot. We drove and drove until my wife recognized a bath house. Some better signs are needed. I will probably never go back and if you are thinking of staying in anything on wheels I would call to pick a level spot. Reserve America is a joke. We camped at Cecil M. Unfriendliest management of all parks I ever visited. Its like we owed them for letting us stay there over and above the already fees. Activities person acted like he didn't want to be there. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and after checking out campsites, we settled on site 208 in the small (12 site) Locust Grove loop. Our site was level with a gravel pad and woods at the back of the site; it was a quiet site off the main traffic routes. We had electricity, but no water or sewer - pretty common in IN state parks. We had no AT&T or Verizon cell service, but were able to get a good satellite signal.

The bathrooms / showers were clean and were cleaned at least daily. Showers were the double-curtain type, with plenty of hot water. There are multiple comfort stations, with additional pit toilets scattered around the campground. There is one dump station, which gets busy at check-out time - there were lines most days. The water fill site was across the road from the dump station, and was equally as busy.

Overall, the campground was nice with a lot of trees. It can be muddy when it rains - and it did, before we arrived and while we were there. In fact, we changed our site when we arrived because our original site was really wet and muddy. Be aware that a lot of the sites have a slope and the main roads are busy, because this park has a lot of campers, especially on weekends.

For cars, trucks and campers, the entrance fee is $7 per vehicle for IN residents and $9 per vehicle for out-of-staters, 7 days a week including holidays, with in-and-out privileges. For walkers, bicycles, buses and passenger vans, the entrance fee is $2 per person. Campsite fees are $23 Sun-Weds, $30 Thur-Sat and $33 on holiday weekends.

The camp store is very nice and had a great selection of ice cream treats!

Lots of very nice trails to hike. Multiple boat ramps and a fishing pier are available, with plenty of boat trailer parking close. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Motorhome.

We were formerly hesitant to visit Raccoon Lake, as it formerly had a reputation for the 'party' park, but were were most pleasantly surprised and comfortable during our stay.

There was a group of noisy adolescents across from us on a 'retreat' gathering (about six sites) that were only moderately supervised, but I blame the adults, not the DNR. They quieted down pretty well in the evening and only ran bicycles into my truck on two occasions... :-/

The restrooms and shower houses have been updated (very few of Indiana's older state parks can say the same...), the property and grounds is kept very nicely; DNR staff can be regularly seen driving through the campgrounds, cleaning the restrooms, etc. Our site was huge, on an outer loop with a copse of trees behind and beside us. Many of the sites, however, are not level and are suitable for tent camping only. The campground listed the pad at our site as 'level', but it slopes downward, front to back. Compared to many of the other sites, though, ours was more level than most. Many of the sites are pretty roomy and many are paved, but there are those on interiors of some loops that are pretty close to your neighbor. Overall, though, pretty typical state park set-up.

There is a nice camping store on site (although only open during high season; they were open the weekend only during the last weekend in September), many boat ramps plus a marina with rentals. There are a couple larger stores with gas and fuel right outside the park entrance, plus a bar/restaurant that other campers stated was pretty good fare.
Several nice bank fishing areas, shelter houses with lake views, and the hiking trails are great. Most trails are fairly easy to navigate, and connect well to each other. Walking to the boat ramp is a short distance from the campground, and it's only about a mile (or so) to walk to the beach area, using the trails.

We will visit here again! We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Rockville is nearby and hosts the Covered Bridge festival in early October. It's a big regional draw, so book early if you want to visit during that time.

This was a very hard campground to review. As we sit here on this nice, sunny, warm weekend, in a very busy loop, I would say that we would never come back here again. We had been here off season several years ago and it was good. It is a very, very busy campground with close sites. It is very noisy at night during the busy season. Lots of yelling, etc. with little sign of any noise enforcement. Even the stated quiet hours only go from 11 pm. to 7 pm. so don't depend on a lot of quiet. Also, lots of smoke from smoldering campfires. The lake is lovely and would be great for water sports. There are some hiking trails. Biking is OK, but the traffic is very heavy and fast, again with no speed limit enforcement. Most important, many, many of the sites are very, very sloped. I would say at least 50 percent and perhaps more would not be usable my a motorhome. They will only let you change sites once and the sign says that you cannot change sites on weekends! So, what do you do when you cannot fit into a site? I left it as big rig friendly and drive through sites, but am not for sure where those would be. I would certainly not come here in a big rig. So, if it is off season, OK. During prime season, if you want some peace and quiet, find another place. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Motorhome.

A good place to relax, a nice distance from Indianapolis. It can get real busy during the summer months. Nice facilities, and a camp store on the grounds. There is a boat launching ramp that stays busy. Hiking trails up, around, and along the shore to wear out the little legs. Beach are open onto the lake. The level of the lake can vary greatly depending on the year's rainfall. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Tent.

Great park if you are into watersports. Our campsite (137) was huge and flat, but had a dirt surface. Several campsites had severely sloped pads that would not accommodate large trailers of RV's, so be careful making reservations. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even giving me the number of a nearby garage to have a blown tire repaired. Restrooms were clean, showers had good temperature and pressure. About 25 minute drive from Turkey Run and Shades State Parks. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Travel Trailer.

No internet access even with air card. SW view OK for satellite TV. Big sites available. Well kept grounds. Mens restroom smelled of urine. In racoon run area. Very busy on weekends and about 20% during week. Great lake for fishing/swimming/docks etc. 3rd busiest campground in Indiana. AT&T cell phone worked OK. Big Berry hamburger spot good place for quick bite and ice cream treat. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Fifth Wheel.

This was an OK campsite. Not very secluded and really not that great for tents. It does seem like its OK for RV campers. Stayed pretty noisy until about midnight and then got noisy again around 5am when the fisherman got going. We camped at Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon SRA) in a Tent.

This park is great. There is a beach here, and huge lake for boats. The shower houses are really nice and very clean too. But what we found most enjoyable were the friendly faces of the people who worked there. The park is full of wildlife, trails, and very clean as well. We loved it and will return.
