This is beautiful, but basic, country park. Few amenities but lots of room for kids and/ or pets. Improvements such as a new bigger shower house are planned. - WNC Traveler

This is a large campground full of seasonals around the outer perimeter. They have about 30 overnight sites in a square around the play ground in the center of the campground. There are just seven trees for these 30 sites, so it's mostly all sunny. The campground is well maintained with lots of green grass. The staff was nice. The owner's teenage grandson brought us our firewood and he was very nice and professional. There is no WiFi here. The owner said they are "too far out in the boonies" and couldn't get it. Cell signal was minimal as well so we had no internet whatsoever. There is a picnic shelter near the playground. There was about 60 people there playing Bingo. I was disappointed that when we checked in, the owner didn't tell us about Bingo, so we got to listen to it go on for an hour or two, but we weren't invited to play. - Juniper94

This is one of the finest state parks I have been to. All the sites are large, paved & electric. Most sites are quite level. The park has four named sections: two are wide open and spacious, while the other two are heavily wooded. The two 'newer' sections, Sugar Ridge & Turkey Hollow were opened about 30 years ago. I first came to the park in 1977, and have returned over 30 times since. This park is very popular, so reservations are recommended. It was full each weekend in October. Check-in is typical state park, pull up to the gate and talk to a ranger. You'll get a very accurate map and other information on the park. The interior roads are paved and wide, but they are a little tight in the wooded sections. There are a few corner sites that are pull-thru, but the majority are back-in. There are six sites designated as accessible and have large paved patios. The park has rules, and the rangers are often checking to make sure they are followed. Gives a sense of security. All sites have 20, 30, 50 amp service. When the new section opened, the electric boxes were back at the edge of the woods, and two sites shared one box. A few years ago they were moved to the end of each pad. There is no water at the sites, spigots provided around the park. There is no sewer, there are two dump stations in the older section. There is no cable, and very limited antenna reception. There is no Wi-Fi, and even my Verizon hot spot was useless. The Parke Co Covered Bridge festival runs for 10 days beginning the second Friday in October. It is very busy at that time, but something to see. I will definitely return to Turkey Run. - Martini

Awesome park for hiking! Very clean, nice lodge with restaurant, pool etc. Sites are nice size with plenty of room in between, IF you have a medium size travel trailer or small fifth wheel. In a larger fifth wheel (which we have), the sites other than pull through are on a 90 degree to street, making back in interesting. Since our site backed into woods we were unable to use the last 6' of pad otherwise would have had tree issues. But overall great park. - Im4Blues

Very busy park , we went over Memorial day weekend with our grandson and daughter. Restrooms and showers were kept clean considering how much traffic was thru them. Hiking trails form very rugged to moderate grandson loved them and then cooling off in the pool afterwards. We also hiked at Shades State park nearby , no entry fee with your hang tag from Turkey Run. The only bad thing was look liked 2 hour wait for the dump station , we were lucky that we have a truck stop on the way home with a dump station. - Steph and Jim

If you are looking for the amenities of a big RV park, Shades State Park is not the place for you. But if your rig boondocks, you can't beat it. My 32' motorhome fit snugly in the beautiful shaded site on the asphalt pad. Each site has a fire ring, an asphalt pad and a sturdy picnic table. Vault toilets were available in the Locust Grove campground area where I stayed, and flush toilets and clean showers were located within easy walking distance. Shades is one of Indiana's hidden treasures with hiking trails, waterfalls, rock bridges, etc. It is dark, dark at night with no ambient lighting other than campfires, tiki torches, and flashlights - great for star-gazing. The website is great and includes dimensions for every campsite in the park, so you can actually pick one that fits your rig. This was one of my best camping experience to date because so much time was spent outdoors. - shastagrrrl
Jul 2009 - $10.00
We camped last year for the fourth of July, good thing we reserved about 3 months early! The park was full but still quiet. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting: waste piled all the way to the top of the toilet seats! I walked to a few different outhouses with the same outcome. Yuck. Besides that, this was a nice, out of the way park to stay in. Watch out for the raccoons, they are ruthless! - honkadoodle
Jul 2005 - $13.00
We stayed here on a Sunday following a booked weekend. The restrooms were a little too dirty for me, they were functional though. After they were cleaned on monday they were still dirty and had litter in them. There was a bit of litter in the campground and the fire pit was a mess. Overall it was very quiet and the staff was very friendly. We would stay here again, though I would probably try Turkey Run or Raccon SRA first seeing as they are so close. - Quiet Campers

We arrived at this campground without a reservation and they were able to take us for our overnight stay. I have to say that in all our travels in all 50 states this was the best best best office staff we have ever run across. She went out of her way to help us with the WiFi and was a hoot with teasing with us! If and when we are back in this area we will definitely stay here again. Had no problems get around in the park with a 45 ft with tow. - hug448844

We camped on the creek side #44. This was a beautiful spot with lots of shade (which did block our TV signal) but quite serene. Restroom/ shower room basic but very clean and functional. Owners are very friendly. - MattM

Well maintained campgrounds. Excellent customer service. They have canoeing. We only stayed overnight, but would stay again. - mrweaw54

This was an emergency, last-minute stay; we had to relocate from our planned Champaign-area RV park due to severe weather. So we arrived after dark at 9:00p. The KOA staff had sent us a text giving us our site number. Pulling into the driveway, our 40-foot 5er bottomed out on the steep incline transition. (We bottomed out on the way out the next day as well, even taking the transition kind of sideways.) With no idea where we were going, and very little lighting in the park, we did find our pull-through site, but pulled in backwards. Water and electric on the wrong side. This is a fairly tight park, and heavily wooded (probably a big plus in the heat of summer) but not what we wanted to try to navigate at dark. So we just parked it the wrong way. Signage was not helpful here. We left early the next morning at 9:00, before the office was open, so we had no interaction with any staff during our 12-hour stay. It's a good thing the park was mostly empty; it would have been hard getting out in the morning if the neighboring sites had been occupied. - DigitalNomadCoffeeShop
Sep 2018 - $48.00
The sites were tight. We had a pull through with just enough room for truck and RV. The sewer connection was about 6" above ground level. The WiFi was adequate. The water pressure was good. The staff was friendly and courteous. - Dennis Bennett
Sep 2018 - $40.00
Location not far off I-74 with little noise. There was an occasional train whistle but nothing really bad. Close to shopping and dinning options. Site was level with good water and electric. Water faucet did have a broken knob but was still usable. Staff was friendly and helped us with what sites to see in the area. They had a large selection of DVD's to borrow for free. - MarkandMarty

This is a Passport America park but we were here during an area covered bridge festival so required to pay full price. Close to highway so there is some road noise, but it is not an overly busy road. Two sites are full hookup, the rest do not have sewer connections. There is a mix of power, some 30 amp, some 50 amp and some both. We had a 30 amp site but had 2 outlets so could use our "Cheater box" to get 50 amp serviced, good on these cold days. Park is very clean with nice amenities although we were just on an overnight stop. Our site was not very level but our jacks got us there. Toad parking was next to our motorhome since the site was short even though a pull-thru. - Grumpier99
Jul 2016 - $24.00
We were in site 22. The restrooms are a long way from the back sites where we stayed. The electric hook-ups are on the wrong side of the site for RV's, which I do not understand why. In the sites up front they are in the middle of the pad area???? This worked but in the future in the area I will look for another place. All sites are gravel and not quite level. - MINomad
May 2016 - $26.00
Nice country park with a very friendly host. Sites are gravel. There are only four 50amp sites and they are all back in sites. Sites are wide and easy to maneuver in. Took a little bit to get level as the back was on sloping ground. The host asked for all pets names in case of any emergency. We love our fur babies and thought that was extremely thoughtful! - Marley B Jones

The only bad thing about Ross Camp is getting your GPS to find it. Once we were finally able to find it, we were very happy with it. Our camp site was gravel on top of grass but very level. There is electric power but no sewer or water hookups. However there is a dump station and water available from a couple of faucets. When we tried to check in we discovered that nobody is in the office on weekends, as this is a county park. Luckily we had prepaid months ago and were told our site number. OTA TV was surprisingly good...but no Wi-Fi and no bars on our cell phones. All in all it's a beautiful little campground even though it's very remote. When we arrived there were seven sites occupied. By the next morning there were three of us left. BTW-- while walking our two little dogs I saw a Fisher (cat) loping across the field. It actually a large weasel but was cool. - dhaney1944
Jun 2016 - $21.00
This place is soooo pretty! We were the only ones there on a Tuesday night. All the sites are back in, but they are spacious. All gravel except one for handicapped which is paved and has a paved sidewalk to the bathroom. They had water and 50 amp service, but no sewer. That was fine with us for one night, but hard to stay for any length of time. They do have a dump station though. For 21$ it was perfect for a place to lay over for the night. - GranNan06

Excellent experience. Exceptionally clean restrooms and showers. We were the only campers present. 15 spaces available. Electric hookup, potable water available and dump station. Quiet, and 11 miles from West Lafayette. - grapeidea

We only stayed here for one night on our way through the area. The woman who checked us in didn't seem to know too much about the park, i.e. trails, etc. We were in site AA-36, a pull-through which worked fine once we figured out that we were side by side with the neighboring motorhome, with our rigs facing opposite directions. The utility hookups were in the center between us, and it was a long run for some of the utilities. It would be nice if the website for this park would have a diagram of each site's location. We would have picked a different site. The park itself is very nice, lots of open fields and trails through the woods. We saw a deer and two fawns in the afternoon. It was very quiet and pleasant. Of course this was midweek after school started locally. Unfortunately we didn't get any Verizon service, which is important to us for more than a one night stay. - dbcordello

We stayed one night while touring the covered bridges in Parker County, Indiana. Site 30 was a pull through and we had no neighbors. Many families and children present and active. Enjoyed walking the dogs on the park roads. - Sunnie-Wheelhouse
Jun 2012 - $35.00
First to say that we were very impressed with the facility. We found it to be family friendly, pet friendly, and really quite peaceful. There was lots to do here, including nature trails, playgrounds, horseshoes, and a large fishing lake. We knocked down our review points a bit because we had to move our rig into 3 different spots before we found one that would really work. Our first site, #36 (pull-through), had a sewer hook up about a foot and a half off the ground. This made it impossible to dump or to support your hose appropriately. In fact, when we tried to dump, the height and weight on our sewer hose was so great that it broke! Luckily it was grey water and luckily we were able to fix it without much trouble. Staff was VERY accommodating in moving us, but was quite clear that no refunds were possible. At all. We next moved to site #30 (back-in), but water and electric utilities were on the wrong side of the rig and our water hose wouldn't reach. We then moved to site #31 (back-in). All was good there, but it was certainly a hassle to move 3 times. Know that sites 30 and 31 were 50 amp only. We had to get an adapter from the front desk and they took our credit card as a deposit. We would absolutely camp here again, but only knowing the right spot. In order to save on utility installation, it looks like electric and water were only installed at every other site. Be aware of this when making reservations and make sure that your hook-ups are quite long. - mnlfish

This is a small county campground. The sites are gravel, the spaces tight, but level. The utilities are a bit weird, electric on one side, water and sewer on the other. Glad we had extra hose. There were only a couple other campers here. The bathrooms are clean, but need updating. We were here about 4 days visiting family. - esta34950

Needed a last minute reservation for an overnighter while passing through. Little did I know it was the annual Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County, In and the core was in Rockville. The park normally has a two night minimum but they accommodated us for one night. On arrival, a staff member walked me to the site and advised us where to unhitch the tow. The campground is small, has a community feel to it and is a great location for the festival. The sites are tight with minimal pull through. Utilities worked well and it was a fairly quiet place. I would stay here again. - jl2000

Nice quiet campground close to town most spots looked to be level and lots of shade we stayed only a couple days and there were several other campers in the park I would recommend this campground and we will stay again if we are back in the area - Brad79394
