The staff was very friendly. The grounds were clean. The site was gravel with grass side yard. However, the gravel on roads and the campsite was similar to limestone in that there was a powdery, gritty residue that tracked into the RV, stuck to shoes, etc. We were on day 6 traveling with 3 large dogs and had kept the camper clean until this stop with this powdery gravel. Additionally, upon check-in a staff member said the power company warned them that power was fluctuating and everyone was advised to not plug in. Staff said they'd notify when safe to plug in but no one came around to advise about safety. So it was basically dry camping for $56.00 - no consideration for the lack of power. I didn't give a 1 because the grounds were well kept, staff was pleasant at check-in, and it was quiet (except for having to run generators) but I don't think we'll return to this campground. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Great KOA facility. Wide gravel roads and level sites. Great customer service with well stocked store with great pizza that they will deliver to your site. Large green space between sites with plenty of room for your RV and tow vehicle. Nice clean restroom. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We just completed an 11-day stay at Des Moines West KOA, doing numerous friend and family visits plus a bit of sightseeing of the Des Moines and Central Iowa areas. This KOA has fairly level sites, including a few side-by-side sites. Nearly all sites are pull-throughs. A few sites have an upgrade to a concrete patio with ourdoor furniture and gas grill. There are 10-12 cabins for rent as well as a couple of yurts. This park is well equipped to serve families: pool, play equipment, basketball and jumping play areas, fishing pond, activities on summer weekends. We have stayed here 5 times in 3 years. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice KOA. It is not right next to the Interstate so it is quiet. Satellite friendly with cable & Wi Fi. Very nice dog park & plenty of grass at your site as well. Nice playground for the kids & lots of activities. Laundry, too. Garbage pick up at the site; always a plus. Staff was friendly & accommodating. They let us move to the next site over which was more level. Our hydrolic pump was out & we could not put our jacks down to level our coach. They have added a big addition to the park as of a couple of years ago. We have always enjoyed staying here while visiting relatives. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Every time I stay at a bad KOA and decide I won't go to another, I am brought back in a good one like this. Why can't KOA get all their owners to run a good CG like this. Even following a huge amount of rainfall the roads and sites were in top shape. Our site was long, level and had a very good gravel surface. The utilities were all good. The laundry was very clean and the machines were good. The ice cream bar was also most welcome after dinner. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here 10 days while visiting family and friends in central Iowa. We elected to get a patio site (more $$ but includes concrete patio, 6 chairs, table and gas grill). There were numerous activities at the campground on weekends and even a preschool group visiting one weekday to use playground and "mini shuttle" facilities. Staff is hard-working and friendly. Sites are gravel and mostly level. They have added 30+ sites in a new section during the past year. This KOA is 2 miles north of I-80. Road noise is not a problem. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Way overpriced for an electric only site for one night. Had no choice but to stop here and will not be returning. The campground was clean and quiet but not at all worth the fee. Legal robbery, but it was our choice to stay or keep going. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a pretty nice KOA Holiday. Some of the sites are small but ours was very wide. Had a nice tree for morning shade and was plenty long and level. The grass between sites was a bit brown, but it hadn't rained in a while and they don't irrigate. The first day we got in the heated pool, but there were soooo many kids we didn't stay long. The 3rd day we were almost the only ones in the pool and it was much nicer. They have a very nice rec building, a lot of playground things for kids, and a fishing pond (it looked nasty though). Our Dish satellite worked fine. They also offer free Wifi which had a strong signal. Very quiet as you're off the highway a ways. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice looking park with mostly pull through sites. Plenty here for the kids to do. Our site was very wide which was nice except campers kept walking through using it as a shortcut. Their pizza was very good and delivered to our door. They lead you to your site which is nice. Some streets are marked as one way but, to enter your site, you have to go the wrong way. The wifi worked well as did Verizon. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Had 1 teenager working desk trying to register people, wait on people in the store and answer phone during busiest part of the day. Ordered pizza to be delivered at 6:45, tried calling to find out where it was and phone was not answered multiple times. Went to office at 7:00 and it was just coming out of the oven. BTW, I ordered it around 2:30 to be delivered at 6:45. Bunch of teenagers at desk earlier in day with no adult around. VERY POORLY RUN! and sites may be relatively flat, but no way are they level. Do not give list of cable channels, do not tell where off leash dog area is. Very little info given out at registration. Laundry very small and some of machines are not working. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.
