A nice park in a convenient location. Above average space between sites. Paved roads and paved, level sites in good condition. Lots of trees, but not so many as to block the open sky. The row we were placed in had a known problem with intermittently high voltage on both legs, which caused our motorhome to kick itself off several times during our 1-week stay. Maintenance guy said they would be fixing that after they closed for the winter. Meanwhile, we were able to deal with it by taking extra care to monitor voltage and balance our electrical loads. Overall, the park was above average, especially for the price, and we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Our 2019 tour is about to end so here is another review for this campground. Per our last reviews big campground close to all shopping and eating in Altoona and the Des Moines area. Pull through and back ins plus 14 new electric only concrete sites for small rigs and tow behinds. Comfort stations and laundries were not rehabbed as we were told would happen at the end of last season. But be that as it may, the park is well managed with friendly staff, the utilities work well with no problems that we are aware of and it remains a good value with not many choices in the greater Des Moines area. Price point I gave is parks rate as we are comped for our site as seasonal workers at Adventureland.Amusement Park and Adventure Bay Water Park. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Prairie Meadows casino across the street (call-they will send the shuttle), outlets of Des Moines two miles, Bass Pro Shop close by, all food joints you want or need 5 to 10 minutes away, and first class cinema movie theater with good sound and recline seats 5 minutes away. Walmart, Menards, Lowes, Target, Hy-Vee and Fairway all located on or just off 8th Street in Altoona. Have fun.

Finding your way into this park is astonishingly difficult, due to uncaring management. Clearly, many people have informed them that better attention is needed to their signage. Coming from I-80, there was a small sign which seemed to indicate RVs were to turn in, but actually, you should turn in about a hundred yards further along. We made the first turn, and sat there wondering if it could be correct. A call to the facility resulted more confusion, as the clerk did not know the way to the park. Probably this is caused by the phone's being answered by someone at the hotel, which is associated with the RV park. A tour "trolley" operator came by and taking pity on us, showed us the way. Of concern, when we checked in at the campground and made some specific suggestions regarding improving signage, the clerk was completely indifferent. This is an enormous campground, associated with and adjacent to a huge amusement park, casino, and hotel. The campground has several "wheel" type sites, and also numerous pull throughs. The sites are adequate in length and width. I put up the antenna and got quite a few channels, but some were weak and sporadically interrupted. WIFI seems good for normal use (I haven't tried streaming). They have a fenced dog area and another fenced area for small dogs. There are a lot of mature trees, so there is shade. This park is an excellent value in a close in area. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park - interior roads and sites are concrete. Our site was a pull-in, they do have back-ins and some pull-thrus as well. Right next door to the Adventureland amusement park so you can hear screams from the roller coaster during the day and early evening. The park closed at 7pm while we were there, so no issue with sleeping. No issues maneuvering within the park for our big rig. The only issue getting to the park was that you have to really watch for the entrance, it's easy to miss. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Large campground right off of I-80. Lots of people!. Every site was full on Friday in June. Next to amusement park and good amenities...pool, dog run etc. Roads are tight as are the sites. Full hook up level 50 amp asphalt. Trees block satellite but many local channels. Wifi is useless. Demand More People! Good cell service. Would stay again only overnight. Finished another five month season living in the campground as part of the work camper force at Adventureland Amusement Park. Site is comped as part of our employment. General public pays $35.00 per night and there is a monthly rate but not sure what the exact fee is so would not want to comment. Park is large with large amount of pull throughs and good amount of "circles" that have 10 sites per circle. 95% are asphalt with newer concrete sites in the mix. All existing sites have FHUs and there are plans to build 12 to 15 new sites by the walking bridge to the amusement park that will be for conversion vans and smaller campers that will have 20/30 amp electric, water, but no sewer. Power is constant with good water pressure which is very good for a campground this size, and sewer drops are placed well in the sites. Campground office receives mail and packages during the season and sells souvenirs, ice, and propane. Large clubhouse and pool available during season and has washer/dryers inside building. The comfort stations 1, 3, and 4 have washer/dryers and all including #2 are being remodeled during the off season. At times there were complaints of sewer odors so the remodeling was put on the table this year. So to sum up, the park is starting to show its age a little but I believe they are heading in the right direction and it remains a good value due to its location, close to shopping, new hotels, casino across the street, new outlet mall and within 10 to 15 minutes from Des Moines. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Prairie Meadows across the street with very good buffet, casino, and live horse racing at times through the season. New outlet mall over by Bass Pro. Decent restaurant in Bass Pro with bar and 6 lane bowling alley. Sugar Shack Cafe on 8th Ave is moving to strip mall west of Altoona Walmart-give em a try. And of course Adventureland Amusement Park and Adventure Bay Waterpark next to the campgrounds.

The biggest issue I have with this campground, where we've stayed in teh past, is that approaching from I-80, the entrance road is almost impossible to see and the sign reads parallel to the road (Adventureland Drive) such that you're passing it before you see it. Other than that, we really like this for a one or multi-night stay. If the tornado alarms sound, as they did last evening, head for one of the cinder block bathrooms (called comfort stations on the campground map). Fortunately, while we got lots of wind, rain and some hail, the tornadoes which precipitated the alarms bypassed us! Staff friendly. Campground clean. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Entrance is difficult to find, and others have complained about it. Adventureland signs are confusing and some are inaccurate. The only telephone number I could find for help was the hotel reservation at Adventureland Inn. The receptionist there was untrained, had no idea of how to direct me to the campground, gave inaccurate directions and instructions three times, despite the fact that i was only 400 yard away. When I eventually got to the campground office, during check in I felt that the person checking me in didn't have time or the interest to answer my questions reasonably, because the office closes at 5 and it was 4.45! Most campers arrive for registration late afternoon early evening. So it makes no sense in a big park to close the office so early. I reserved a pull through with 50 amp, water and sewer which I got. But 5 minutes after I plugged into the power it shut off. When I examined the box, it had thrown the 30 AMP breakers!!! In a 50 amp box. I called the Adventureland Inn, which is your contact after 5 PPM, but the receptionist knew nothing about the campground or maintenance??? She tried calling the campground office, despite me telling her it was closed. Eventually she asked someone, who knew how to send out maintenance. Sure enough, maintenance showed up and said someone had installed 30 amp breakers in a 50 amp box. They changed the breakers and power was fine. the pull through's are long enough for the biggest rigs, Wifi is almost no existent, no cable. The fifth wheel to my left had two vans and a truck parked? The fifth wheel to the right had a van, a truck and a Harley, and three dogs staked outside. The camper opposite has a dog outside yapping non stop. This campsite could be really good, but appears to lack strong management. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Very difficult to find entrance. Amusement park, hotel, and casino make it hard to get around, especially in the evening when you have to check in at the hotel. Nice grassy areas. Rules allow late night noise which is not good for those traveling through. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Our not-recently-updated GPS had a hard time finding this park. Park is next to a casino and offers pull-through and back-in sites. All are level and hookups are convenient. We arrived at 4:50 pm and had been told that after 5 pm we would need to check in at the hotel. There was a barrier half-way across the road, but hubby was tired from driving all day and then having taken an out-of-the-way route to the park, he announced he was not going to the hotel, it was not yet 5 pm. Upon entering the office, the man there announced he would need to reboot his computer to check us in. We were given a back-in site even though we were only staying one night and were towing a car. The park was about 1/3 full and there were pull-through sites available throughout the park. Bathrooms and showers were older, but well kept. Park looked quite nice, had a nice community room in the center of the park. Just wish we had been treated a bit better at check-in. Really resent having to unhook car after a long day of driving, only to hook it back up after a night's sleep. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

Here since May 1st and it remains an older but clean and maintained park in the city of Altoona but very close to Des Moines with its big city businesses and attractions. Park has long pull thrus for the bigger rigs (ours-67 feet hooked) plus many camp circles with fairly easy backins for the smaller units and groups who wish to be together. Hookups have electric pedestal and hose bib or water stand pipe with sewer drop placed fairly decent in sites. Roads paved with asphalt and 98 % of sites asphalt with 10 to 15 newer concrete sites. Tent sites are on south end of park. Four comfort stations have one shower for men and one for women with three having two washers/dryers and pool/group meeting building has three washers/dryers. Office will accept mail, packages, and will take out going mail (pre stamped),with small camp store an propane for sale. Walking bridge connects to amusement park with shuttle service also during season from rv park. Several points that keep this only a four star park is poor maintenance of washers/dryers (have to keep after park management when units are down) and too many people drive through park like its I-80 with little to no regard for people with dogs and children walking and playing. Have been nearly hit several times. Also no regard by some with observing one way roads within the park. No recycling in park but dumpsters for trash available. But to sum up, park remains very good value when visiting the amusement park, the casino next door, or the greater Des Moines area. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Enjoyed our stay here. Friends of ours are workampers at Adventureland and it was nice visiting with them for one night. Ate dinner at Spectators Sports Bar. Lots of tv screens, good drinks and food. Did not have time in our schedule to visit the amusement park. Hope to return next year and visit the park. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The park had a few trees (maybe every other site), and the roads were paved with asphalt that was cracking and not in very good condition, but maneuvering my 36' DP motorhome was easy. Sites were on the narrow side, some thin grass all around (grass is nice when you have dogs). Power connection was 50/30/20 and the power pole & sockets were in good condition. There was no cable TV. Water & sewer connections were fine, as was the water pressure, and the sewer connection point was at ground level (nothing worse than a sewer pipe that's 8 inches above ground!). The RV parking pad was crumbling asphalt. The WiFi connection was good, and but was so slow it was basically useless. We don't use restrooms, showers or pools, so we can't render an opinion on those items. There were 2 dog park for our 4 footed friends (we travel with 3 golden retrievers). The price was average to slightly high considering aging condition of some of the facilities. We did not notice significant road noise, but noise like that doesn't bother us anyway. We would rate this park as 6 out of 10. We might stay here again if in the area. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Motorhome.

We used Adventureland CG while visiting friends in the Des Moines area. Signage directing you to the entrance not very clear for those unfamiliar with the area. As others have said, clearly an older park but grounds are well-kept. Bath facilities also older but generally clean. Interior roads can be a bit confusing to navigate; circular "clusters" of sites actually make it quite easy to place your rig although sites themselves are not all that big and parking of your tow vehicle could be awkward. Most sites are paved, nearly level and have a single tree to provide some shade. Food, fuel and supplies readily available at retailers in the area. Check in was easy but the staffer neglected to tell us about the WiFi and did not provide the code - I had to ask the next day. Adventureland served our purposes and we would stay here again. This is an older heavily used campground. The rate reflects the state fair rate. Hook ups worked fine. Staff nice, gave us very good advice how to go to fair using a park and ride site.
