Due to a vehicle repair we stayed here 10 nights, the restrooms and showers were horrible!! We asked for a picnic table (they were all in a shelter) the second night and we were told they would bring us one, that did not happen. The grass was never mowed. This place was bad, it's also next to highway with traffic constantly! We finally hired a truck to move us to a state park south of Indianola. They just want your money with no consideration to the camper what's so ever! Do not stay here!! We camped at Warren County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We were very excited to try a fairground campground for the first time. $18/night for 30 amp and water only seemed a little high, but we decided to give it a go. The good points are that the site is very level and there was only one other RV (first come-first served u-pick-a-site, pay at the box). Now the bad...there was supposed to be water at the site. Mid-April and the water is still shut off. No mention of that on their website. Thankfully we had some water in the tank. There are also rest rooms, showers and garbage bins on site. All three, LOCKED UP. No mention of that on the website either. The noise from the road, which is very close, was constant. Coming into town there is a sign that reads "Noise Ordinance Enforced". Don't believe it! There must be no muffler shop in this town. Apparently the nearby neighbors leave their dogs out all night as there was almost constant barking - maybe it was strays, but regardless, barking all night. Power tripped our over-voltage breaker. As a bonus we were treated to a bum and his dog sleeping in the picnic shelter right behind our rig, in the morning leaving a big puddle of urine and tossing his trash on the ground next to the garbage bins (because they were locked up). One or two patrol car pass throughs a night would be welcome. We will not be staying here again. We camped at Warren County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Des Moines is only about 20 minutes north. Went there a couple times during our stay, no sweat. Walmart on north side of town. One of the best Dollar General we've seen just down the street from campground.

We were here during the Indianola Balloon Festival. It is on Hwy 92, a few minutes from Balloon field. It is a first come, first serve, you pick your own spot and pay daily so you can extend your stay as long as you wish. Nice, shaded spots and we managed to keep it cool inside despite the 100 degrees outside. We picked a spot with the playground right outside, our daughter loved it. It is at a fairground though, so you might want to check their schedule as we had a very loud Figure 8 spring car race our last night, but noise doesn't bother us too much. It is also on Hwy 92, which is a little noisy. Internet was however spectacular, which is one of our priorities so we were happy. We camped at Warren County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Nothing fancy, but the price is right for water/electric hookups. They have a dump site at the park. The park is located on the west side of town on HWY 92 across the highway from an excellant grocery store, try the meat counter. We camped at Warren County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
