We love this park! We've camped here several times in years past. It rather hard to get reservations over a weekend because of it's popularity. This campground is the one we dream of with lots of trees and good space between lots. This space may be closer than some like, but we find it great. The one draw back it has is, no sewer and water at the sites. I'll stay here any time I'm in the area and can get in. During the week is really a good time to stay, a lot of the spaces are empty. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

Don't use address on website for GPS. The actual address is 4338 NW 94th Ave. Ankeny, IA. We ended up on the other side of the resevoir at the admin office using the website address. Park is nice. Sites shady and level. We had a beautiful view of the lake. Bathroom/showers are clean but be aware they are push button and the water only flows about 1 minute per push. But the water was hot. No water hook up at site. Dump station and fresh water fill at entrance. Lots of paved roads to ride bikes. Staff very friendly at check in. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

Had the best steak of my life at Iowa Beef Steakhouse in DesMoines. Decor looks like what you'd expect a steak house in the 1960s to look like...cute!

Good location and easy access to bike trails and restaurants. Electric only site. Level and easy back in site. Dump station and fresh water near entrance. The only reason not giving a 10 is because it was an electric only site. Will definitely stay again. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

Bike or walk the High Trestle Trail. It's a must see. We recommend Trackside Rentals in Madrid for bicycle rentals. Also Boone & Smokey Valley Railroad has very enjoyable train rides and a great train museum.

Stayed here 5 nights while visiting family in the greater Des Moines area. A great Corps of Engineers campground. The area itself is hilly, but the sites are all quite level. Our site had 20 and 30 amp electric, but 50 amp is available. No water or sewer at site, but there was a potable water spigot less than 50 feet from out site. Dump station and main potable water is at the entrance. Bathrooms and showers were all well maintained and very clean. Although there is no direct access to Saylorville Lake from the campground, access is just outside the campground entrance. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice COE park. Several restrooms/showers located throughout the park. Our site (#66) was not very level front to rear. Could have used some levelling blocks on the end. This site is very close to the playground. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Fifth Wheel.

ALL the COE parks in the area a clean and well maintained. This one has gravel pads the are level and nice shade. We reserved a spot in early Oct 2016. The only issue we had was that we seemed to catch then attention of one of the attendants. He nitpicked us for everything, from a power wheel that my 3 year old son rode around during the day with us beside him, to the way we set up the camper. I will camp here again as I have never had a issue with attendants in the past and will just put it up as he was having a bad weekend. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

We recently stayed at Cherry Glen Campground and enjoyed our stay. This campground has access to the 26-mile Neal Smith Bike Trail, which we utilized quite a bit during our stay. There is no swimming beach access directly from the campground but you can take the trail about 2 miles to get to it by bicycle. I reserved our site two weeks in advance and I checked for availability five days before arrival and it was completely booked.

There was a playground there for our children. It was adequate for them but we found other playgrounds at the other COE campgrounds at Saylorville to be newer, larger and more modern. The bathrooms were always clean. We did not use the shower facilities while we were there. There are a few lakeview sites but were all taken by the time we made our reservations. The campsites tend to be a bit unlevel and we had a difficult time leveling our travel trailer. There is quite a few trees which provided a lot of shade and privacy between sites. Not all sites had this privacy though.

The campgrounds roads were paved which provided great opportunity for easy biking throughout. The speed limit was 15 MPH and many would drive faster than this which was very dangerous, especially with the tight loops and vegetation and vehicles parked so close to the roadway (which would be expected).

We would consider staying at this campground again. However, we checked out Prairie Flower Recreation Area two miles away and would consider that campground before this one.

The staff were very attentive to campers needs and very friendly. Very helpful during check-in and the Park Rangers drove through frequently throughout the day. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

We planned a last minute trip to the area that happened to be during 4th of July weekend. We were in another RV Park that could not accommodate us on July 3 and4. Somehow Cherry Glen had a spot available for July 3 and 4. When we arrived at Cherry Glen, we were surprisingly amazed. This is a beautiful park with plenty of room and plenty of shade trees. The Comfort Stations (bathrooms/showers) were impeccably clean. Sites are large with nice tables and fire rings. If there is one drawback, it would be that the majority of the sites have electric hook up only. If you plan to stay there, fill your fresh water tank before you arrive, or you can fill it just inside the entrance of the park. This will be my preferred location when I visit the area in the future. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

I did a review of this campground a couple of years ago and we still like it a lot. I will mention that one thing I noticed this stay is how many campsites are rather unlevel front to back. I think a larger motorhome might end up with the front wheels well off the ground in the site we had. There are, of course, a number of spots that are level or at least "level enough" but because of our site I began noticing others and realized that several sites are like this. Also, I've learned that, while there are no sewer sites here, there are several water hookup sites scattered around the park. The spigots aren't near the electric posts. Instead, they are stand alone water hookups either along the roads between the campsites or well behind them. There's an extra $2 charge for those campsites. Someone told me that the common practice is for the person in a water campsite to put a "Y" splitter at the faucet so that people can get water out of it even though someone is hooked up to it. My Verizon has a barely-working 3G signal here. It seems to work okay during the day and then as evening comes it slows down considerably. I was able to get satellite TV by putting the dish up close to the road. We still like this campground and will likely make it our place to stay when visiting central Iowa. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice clean, level spot with water and electric. Cost is based on the use of senior pass. This is a rare COE Park that has co-mingled recycling. The park is well run and the staff were both friendly and very helpful. The tree cover was such that our DirecTV could not be received but we were able to bring in many local hi-definition channels with our crank up antenna. The dump station was set up properly but can get very crowded on the weekends. We used Recreation.gov to make a reservation without additional cost. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Motorhome.

We were very impressed with this COE campground. We had a large and level site with a lake view. We found the host to be friendly and helpful. We had good reception on our Verizon phones and hot spot. It's an eight or nine mile drive off of I-35 but worth the drive. We would stay here again on future travel. Overall Rating:

This was a very disappointing COE campground and we probably won’t stay here again. For starters, the volunteers insisted on assigning us a spot instead of letting us choose our own (like we do in all other COE campgrounds). As a result, we got a small spot with very little space for being outside. Luckily, no one came in on the site next to us, so that helped. In the morning, we were awakened by the sound of lawn mowers. We thought surely we’d slept in, but soon found out it was only 7 a.m. When we asked the host about it, he said quiet time ended at 7 a.m. and the contractors always started mowing that early. Needless to say, we can’t recommend this campground, especially when there are several others from which to choose in the area. Price reflects our Senior Pass Discount. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice COE campground on Saylorville Lake, east of the interstate a ways. Large campground with many loops. Situated on a ridge above the lake with no direct access. Our site was fairly un-level, but could compensate. Many sites are not level, but not terrible. Shady, which helped with the mid 90's temps we experienced during our trip. Other than the distance from the interstate, a great place to overnight. Very quiet during mid-week, probably very busy on weekends being on a high use lake. Rate reflects Senior Pass. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of the campgrounds at Saylorville Lake, near Des Moines, IA and a short distance west of Ankeney. The campsites are big and level. We had a 50 amp site. There are no water/sewer sites but you can get good drinking water near the entrance. There's also a dump station there. While we'd like to have a FHU site, this was just fine for a family visit in the Des Moines area. We'll certainly be back there again. The price reflects our America the Beautiful senior pass. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Fifth Wheel.
