Nice campground, nice fellow campers, close showers, nice camping area, and decent rates. Didn't care for the caregivers. They kept nosing into our campsite and weren't very companionable. But other then the caregivers being a bother, the rest of the site was beautiful but very busy. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to two cities. Polk City and Ankeny. Ankeny is the bigger one but you can find what you need in Polk City and it is closer to the campground. But if you want to eat out at a restaurant while you are camping, go to Ankeny.

This is a fabulous, huge park part of the Saylorville Lake COE project. 235 sites, most with electricity spread out over many acres. Sites are spaced well apart, have concrete pads and patios, picnic table and fire rings. Showers and Bathrooms in the B loop were immaculate and well laid out with plenty of hot water. There are 3 other campgrounds around lake too. Limit is 14 days in a month. Nice hiking trails. Dump station small for handling so many sites and line up on Sunday within people leaving was long. There are water spigots throughout the park that we could fill up at. Planning to go back on way through next year. NOTE- call for address. Address on website takes you to the admin building far from the campground. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Motorhome.

An absolutely beautiful campground on lake. About 15 min drive from I-80. Site was level and huge. Electric only but easy access to water and dump. Wonderful helpful hosts and rangers. If not for travel schedule would've stayed for max 2 weeks without hesitation. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed here on the senior pass discount. The concrete parking surface is absolutely the very best we have ever parked on. There is a nice picnic table positioned on a concrete patio too. There is no water at the site so you will need to fill your tank before parking. The 50 Amp service was adequate and positioned well. This particular site has a great view of Saylorville Lake. The only small problem is the lack of shade from the afternoon sun. We would definitely stay here again in the future. You will want to make reservations if planning to stay during holidays or weekends in the summer. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Motorhome.

Great park, nice wide roads, large concrete pads and they are angled for easy access. Staff was friendly and helpful, gave us a lot with great view of the lake. We stayed overnight in a travel trailer and will camp here again when in the area. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a VERY clean, well-kept park. Our grandkids had fun in the playground area AND it was conveniently close to the very clean restrooms. It was quite hot when we were there, so the grandkids had squirt guns, which they could refill at one of the numerous spigots around the park. Our gravel site was level and not too close to the neighbors. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The sites within Aster and Honeysuckle loops are all on packed gravel had very narrow interior streets, lots of trees and shrubs. Half of the Dogbone sites are on packed gravel, the rest of this loop are on concrete. Coneflower and Blazingstar loops had wide interior streets, few trees and shrubs and all of the sites were on concrete. The entire campground is on the reservation system. All sites are back-ins.

Most of the sites are not very level (including the ones that are on concrete). Water spigots are scattered throughout the campground. Water can also be obtained at the dump station. There are only two dump stations for the entire park. Every loop has a bath house with a couple of showers. You cannot regulate the water temperature and they have a push button that controls the amount of water coming out.

Most of the loops have a kid's play area in the center. Coneflower and Blazingstar loops have 50 amp electrical service, all of the other loops have 30 amp electrical service. Our voltage was good - hovering around 122 volts. The park was not filled so I don't know if the voltage would degrade. Verizon air card and cell phone was on extended network but we did not have a problem with them. Every site has a fire ring and a picnic table.

The Neal Smith bike trail runs right through the park. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Popular park. We had no reservation but being midweek we hoped to get any spot. Asked for one with a view of the lake and they found one for our two night stay. #91 through 96 have good views. Water bibs available around the circle. No grey water disposal on the site allowed. Dump and fill station as you leave. Concrete pad with spacious patio with table and fire ring. Beautiful campground with roomy concrete parking pads. We stayed one night, but plan to return here in September in our fifth wheel. Very clean and hosts were extremely helpful especially as we had a flat on the camper just as we pulled in. Easy to find and conveniently located. Overall Rating:

This campground, on Saylorville Lake (an Army Corps of Engineers project) had been improved since our last stay. It was great then and is even better now. We camped on the "B" loop and had a lovely view of the lake. Large cement pad (level also), excellent table and fire pit grace every site in this loop. This area is very well maintained. I got a 50% discount because of the Senior card that I got at a National Park. While there were a lot of people at this campground, the sites are large enough that you don't feel like cordwood-city. Camping here is about 30 minutes away from downtown Des Moines. Excellent shopping centers are only about 10 minutes away at the intersection of 160 and US 35. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Motorhome.

Rate quoted is with the Federal Golden Pass. What a nice campground. Clean, well kept, quiet. Only thing would make it better would be full hook ups. But at only $9 a night, who's complaining! We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Absolutely loved this campground! The loop we were in was so spacious. It was not over crowded and was very peaceful when we were there. The bathrooms/showers were kept up very nicely and were conveniently close. There were 7 spots in our loop and our family/group had 6 of those spots. Our entire group plans on returning frequently. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Tent Trailer.

$9 with Golden Age Card. We camped in Prairie Flower North where sites are wagon-train style surrounding a grassy circle with pavilion in the center. Great for group camping, but not so great if you value your privacy. Water available from spigot in center of circle. Dump available. Prairie Flower South has 131 back-in sites with concrete patios and some shade trees. Probably worth reserving if you were going to spend several days. We camped at Prairie Flower Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.
