Very relaxing watching occasional tugboats push multiple barges up and down the river. Some sites have very good views of Mississippi River. Too many trees for satellite TV. No much in Muscatine, do shopping in Quad Cities 45 mins north. - Mtmoi
Jun 2017 - $10.00
Big campsites and some very close to Mississippi River where you can enjoy the sound of barges going down the river. 10 miles off interstate and well worth it for us as we needed a place to stay for the night . Would go back! - Scooterd16
Jun 2015 - $10.00
This campground has plenty of shade and the sites are long and wide. We enjoyed watching the barges and other river traffic right from the comfort of our campsite. Our Verizon hotspot worked well; our ATT phones did not. Our site had 50 amp service, no water or sewer. This was our second visit to the park and we are likely to return. - codgette

Great park right on the Mighty Mississippi River. Electric at each site (30 + 50). Water available throughout the park, but not at each site. Nice, well kept park. Very helpful gate workers. You can tell they like their jobs. - magic

This quaint campground is located right on the banks of the Mississippi. The sites are all well spaced, gravel and sites 37-42 have the best river views. The bathhouse is a bit dated, but adequate. There is a boat launch and most of the campers there all came for the river. There is another recreation area a little further up the road that we drove through and it seems to be a bit nicer, still on the river and has concrete pads. Both campgrounds are close to the town of historic town of Muscatine Iowa, which has everything a traveler could need. - Two Lanes of Freedom
Jun 2017 - $20.00
State Park with mostly good sites. Sites near the main road are not level. Electric at each site, but water spigot to serve 4 sites. If Park is crowded this could be an issue. Good for an overnight on the Great River Road. This was a very buggy area. - Alicenpete
Oct 2016 - $11.00
This was our northernmost stop on the Great River Road. We were actually looking for Shady Creek, and stopped at Fairport instead. What a gem of a campground! It's small, which we like, and right on the river. There's a small playground and clean bathhouse. Because of the geography and the turn of the river west, you get to see both the sunrise and the sunset over the river, and of course the barge traffic. We had no water at our site, but that was no problem as our tanks were full and we filled up our with drinking water at the spigots that were throughout the campground. Our site was level, roomy, easy backing in. We'd definitely go back if it weren't 1,000 miles from home! It was so quiet and relaxing, and we stayed 2 nights rejuvenating for our trip back home. - roydogs

This is a smaller COE campground. It seems like the campsites are close together, but once you get into your site, it isn't like that at all. Campground is laid out so that most of the sites have a view of the Mississippi and the barge traffic going up and down. The hosts are very friendly and maintain a very clean campground. They are always checking restrooms, water, etc. Boat launch is next door to the campground for those who want to go boating/fishing. AT&T cell phones and Verizon MiFi worked well. We could not pick up Dish TV because of the trees. We did pick up OTA TV, so that was good. A big caution here, check the location of your site carefully before reserving. There is one row of campsites that backs up to railroad tracks that are fairly busy, even at night. The train whistles interrupt your sleep for sure. - Bobbi1948
Jul 2017 - $10.00
We stayed at Clark's Ferry on the banks of the Mississippi for 5 days in site 3. This is a great place to watch the barges and pleasure boats go by. Our site was paved and had a bit of shade. Besides the train tracks that are directly behind the campground with trains running 4 to 5 times night and day, the only other negative was that parking at some of the sites (ours included) was reversed so that entering and exiting your motor home or travel trailer and the patio area were on the opposite side from a view of the river. We solved this by pulling in rather than backing in but this would not be possible with a travel trailer/5th wheel. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will return. - Budmobile
Jul 2010 - $12.00
We ended up here for the 4th of July, and all the COE parks along the Mississippi were full. We were happy to get a site, but would not stay here again. The back-in site we had was less than 100 feet from the railroad, and because it was right by a crossing, the noise from the horn was really loud. I resorted to ear plugs. The COE parks on the river have 1 water faucet for 4-6 sites, and no hookup is allowed. We were precaution-ed to have full water tanks. Sites are nice and shady and the river view is stupendous, but I would try for Fairport or Shady Creek, COE parks with 10 miles to see if they are better. - Yeager

Parking on grass. Most sites are not very level. The road noise is so bad that we had trouble sleeping even with earplugs. If you are hard of hearing this place is not too bad. The staff was friendly check in is very easy because there's usually no one in the office. You will have to park close to the highway because all of the sites farther off the highway are permanent residents. - Lesman
Aug 2007 - $7.00
Great stopover east of Iowa City about 4 miles off of I-80. County park along the Cedar River. Very open with 30 amp service. Relaxing environment if you just want a campsite without any of the extras. $5 for no electric, $7.50 with electric. Can't beat those rates. Watch the river though if there is a significant amount of rain upstream. It can rise rapidly up to the campsite area. - Texas Mooseport

This could be a really nice place. Sites are fairly decent, the campground itself was quiet, but the massive highway noise was horrible. The restroom was decent, except it was at the entrance up on a steep hill. Convenient for them. Due to steep grade, I waited until I packed up and drove to it to use.
Check-in: I registered online and paid. I pull in, office is closed, called the after hours and was told to wait someone would be up. So, I waited, and about 3-4 others pulled up behind me. We ARE in line. Finally a guy arrives in his golf cart - looks around, drives past ME, and asks the others - which of them were first. WTH? I mean really? And, when everyone pointed at me, he yelled at me. What on earth for? First he said - FILL OUT ONE OF THOSE FORMS pointing at the building. And he wanted to get to someone else and started to leave and I said - WHAT? He repeated it, and I said so I need to do that on top of registering online? And he yelled at me for NOT telling him I had registered online? WTH? He was absolutely horrid. NO idea what his problem was except that I am a single female. That is the only thing I can come up with. So, I was pointed to a site. And he drove off. Can we say RUDE? I called back today, and spoke with someone in charge and they took down the info to pass on to the owner - or not. Just not going back...I did nothing, I don't deserve that. And ALL you could hear were the vehicles on the highway I-80 non-stop. It could have been a really nice place if and that's a big IF they put in a sound barrier - but they didn't. Another one-nighter only and move on. - weavingstudio

I stayed just "for the night" while traveling. Didn't intend to "camp". I needed 50amp since the temp was in the high 90's and very humid and they had one site remaining with 50amp. The pull thru's were turf and very close but long enough not to disconnect the toad. Enough mature trees to provide nice shade. Full hookups worked well. You must travel about 1/2 mile on a dusty and somewhat rough dirt road to the entrance. No one staffed the store but had phone numbers listed for guidance. Staff showed up and were very helpful and friendly. Many permanent / seasonal RV's in the prkThe downside is that the pull thru's were less than 100 yards from I-80 at a bridge. The truck traffic noise was VERY loud. Fortunately, the A/C's helped drown out the noise but not as much as I would have liked. Bottom line is that I would stay again as a stop over if I had no better options, which was the case. - homey
Jul 2017 - $31.00
We only stayed at Hunt's for one night, however we want to go back and spend more time. I'm not sure why it has so many negative ratings. Yes, it is right next to the Highway and there is highway noise, however we slept fine, although our AC also ran all night as it was HOT. I was a little concerned with the dirt road that led to it and scared about the hill that leads down into the campground, but we navigated both with no trouble. We parked and hooked up to excellent 50 amp service, and water and immediately went to the pool. I have seldom seen a cleaner and better cared for campground pool. We truly enjoyed our dip. We ached to play the mini golf which looked like some of the A&W golf from back in upstate NY, however time was not our friend. We were excited to see they offered archery tag, but didn't get to partake in that either, nor did we get to use the multiple horseshoe sites, the volley ball court, the 1/2 basketball court or play on the playground. They offer plenty to do. The people who checked us in were friendly and gave us our choice of spots. We enjoyed our stay and would go back. - krmihalk

Fine for a few days. When we were there the waterfront sites were closed as they were still drying out from a flood, but the other sites were fairly full since it was a Friday night. Although there were many groups, it still had a nice family atmosphere versus the "party central" atmosphere to us. Only one main restroom/shower building for the whole park, so it gets pretty gross as the day goes on. - Bay Area Early retirees

Has concrete pads, 50 amp at site, water nearby. You fill up with water then disconnect. Convenient dump on way out of CG. Train track on north edge but with ACs on didn't hear train noise. We were there during week days so no noise or crowds. We received $1 off per night for senior discount and did not stay on water. 14 day maximum stay. Great place to stay. - Peter K
Jun 2010 - $20.00
When we pulled into the park on Sunday afternoon, we thought the campground was full with all the cars and boat trailers and people. The campground beyond the day-parking area had numerous open sites. Shortly after setting up camp the day users left the beach and all was peaceful! Watching the barges from our site right on the beach was interesting as night fell. The concert pads, and wide sites were a pleasant surprise. Scott County Parks have created a wonderful place to camp and we will be back! - AluminumCloud
