A hidden jewel of a campground! We were looking for a place to park for a week near Cedar Rapids and found this place and so glad we did! A very spacious campground with plenty of room in between sites, although there is still not much privacy as there are no low growing shrubs between sites, but you do have a large grassy area separating you from the next site. We were in Campground 1 which is mostly long pull-throughs for larger RVs. There are no water or sewer hookups, but there are strategically placed faucets so that you can fill your RV in most cases from your own site rather than at the dump station. We had lots of good shade from tall trees to the west of us and the weather was perfect our entire week. We enjoyed riding our bikes around the somewhat hilly roads and kayaking the length of the lake one day. The campground was pretty empty until Friday, when the weekenders rolled in, but it wasn't too bad as the ranger patrols frequently keeping the rowdies under control. We had great AT&T & Verizon service at this site. We would definitely come here again if we are traveling through the area. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are several good bike trails around the Cedar Rapids area, as well as biking in the park itself. Bring your kayaks for a leisurely paddle. There is a swimming beach, but we did not use it.

Overall Rating:

We stayed for five days at this park. During the week there were some sites still available and then over the weekend, all sites were taken. Even at full registration, we did not feel crowded. Good size sites with water available within 50 ft. of each site, use a flow regulator, a very powerful stream from each spigot. Electricity was 30 and 50 amp and very strong. Observed rangers and park staff often in the area and personally experienced rangers advising on storms coming and removing some (non-camping) patrons for alcohol consumption at the beach. Well maintained beach, the grandchildren loved it. Lake was a little mossy in the more shallow areas but no unpleasant odor. Get the "Bug Soother" natural bug spray, no DEET, which was the only thing we found that worked for the gnats (black flies) which were prevalent. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

A good convenience store at the 4 way stop in Palo, about 8 miles from the campground but driving to Cedar Rapids was less expensive for a larger grocery/supplies shopping trip.

The first loop of this lovely campground has very big pull through sites suitable for a motorhome, car, and visitors or a boat. It only has electricity at each site, but the size makes it worth the price for sure. The second loop has a few big sites, but most are smaller and back in. There is a third loop for tenters and small rigs like pop ups without my hookups. We stay in the first loop a few days each year, and we always enjoy our stay. The fishing lake here is now full after a significant renovation, so fishing should be good. It rained pretty much the entire time we were here though so no fishing for us. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

There are multiple loops in the campground area. Loop 1 is idea for Motorhomes and Travel Trailers. Each campsite has exceptional grass space and all are long/wide enough for any length. The park provides access to fishing, kayaking, and swimming when the beach is open. Currently the water level is about 50% of what it normally is because of a drain of the lake last fall for clean-up. This didn't keep us and our families from kayaking, camping, and having a great time. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

I would suggest staying in loop 1 if you have an RV. The roads coming in to the park a little bumpy in spots, making for a noisy ride in a motorhome if all of your utensils are not properly locked down. We love the park and take advantage of the "no-wake lake" to kayak. The camp sites are exceptionally spacious compared to others we have been, and there is plenty of grass space for playing and letting the dogs run.

The park itself was nice and overall the stay was good. Inconsiderate campers with dogs off-leash ruined it for us. We keep our dog on a cable at all times and others let their dogs run loose. DNR comes by and warns them but takes no action and when dogs ARE on a leash, they're dragging it behind them with nobody holding it. Ridiculous that people can't follow rules and DNR is either powerless or unwilling to enforce them.

Overall, the park is clean. It should be noted that the lake has been temporarily drained to complete work on the shoreline.

We stayed on Memorial Day weekend and although there were many campers, and all sites were taken, it didn't feel overcrowded. Sites are relatively spacious and the condition of the sites was good - grass was lush and healthy so no muddy footprints in the camper. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

The views are great and the recreation park is large and very friendly. They have a full beach, are very fisherman friendly, and boat docks with lots of paddling opportunities. The campsites were only $16 for the night (50 amp electric only) and they have an envelope system where you pay cash and select your spot. You can also reserve online. The camp hosts were very friendly and the people who stayed there around us were considerate. There is no WiFi but the AT&T cell coverage was ok. We stayed in site #19 which is a very long pull through. Site #69 is a little smaller but has the best views in the park. Would have liked to stay here longer and definitely will come back. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed while at a soccer tournament for FC United. It was a nice 15 minute drive. Sites were nice. Restrooms were very clean. The lake at this campground was very nice in September. During the warmer months a lifeguard is on duty. We spent quite a few hours there. The bike riding area list 12 miles of trails. This is not in the campground but about 10 miles away. We did ride around the park on bikes but it was on a road. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Price reflects Iowa camping coupon price. We stayed 12 days. We love this campground especially loop 1, which are all pull-through sites and all are very large. There is a beach for swimming and good fishing. This campground was very busy on the weekends, but was very quiet during the week. We camped at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
