Jul 2019 - $36.00
Great RV park for an overnight stay. Not close to the highway, but close to an airport, but it was really not that noisy at all. The lady that is the host of the park is exceptionally nice and helpful. Although the spots are very close together, the park is clean and nice. - TBOB
Apr 2018 - $36.00
Good no-frills park, a bit on the expensive side. Campground host lady was fantastic! She was always available via phone. We decided to stay an extra night and she accommodated us no sweat. There were many residents: their sites were very well kept. Site was easy in-easy out, level, good power & water. All, including sewer, were conveniently located. Length of site was a bit tight, but RV and car did barely fit. Right next to the airport but not a lot of noise. - Julie and Ray
Jul 2017 - $36.00
Level gravel pull through spots. couldn't get on the wifi... Airstream wiht our computers but ipads did fine. We visited some friends who were staying in the park which contributed to the excellent rating. $36 with PA, $40 without. Park was full, we had the last space. Behind Super 8 motel, it was a clean park and the full timers were clean and picked up. The spots are close together. It was close to Topeka and hte cost reflected that. - Jim Lee
Oct 2019 - $40.00
Good Roads in and Big Rig Friendly. We arrived after booking online and were given a site that better fit our rig and toad. Very helpful and friendly. Easy on off for I-70 - rl1962
Jul 2018 - $44.00
very clean, nice facilities. Access is a little funky...call ahead. Also, if you come up Wenger street watch out for the dip...I bottomed out! - tom&kathryn
Jun 2018 - $45.00
Just an overnight stay for us. It's a little more difficult to get in and out, not right off the highway but not too bad. We stayed in a pull through by the road but the noise did not bother me (I use a sound machine to block noises) The campground is clean and well kept, office staff was friendly, our site was level. Very close to the neighboring site right beside who parks in the opposite direction. With both parties' slides out, there was probably 18" between the slides. On the door side there was plenty of space. There is a pool, a dog park and a little lake with walking trails. Our site was good for satellite, good Verizon signal and park has some WiFi but office should give the WiFi name on check in. Three different Cap city WiFi names show up in the list - trial and error with the password until one worked. Would stay overnight again. - Rambleinthebramble
Sep 2019 - $27.00
Management was very friendly and helpful when needed. All site long enough to pull through and no need to unhook. Very close to an excellent restaurant with buffet. Able to easily accomodiate large groups such as ours - aliner man
Jun 2019 - $29.00
The entry is rutted but the interior lanes are acceptable. Nice person but needs help. Mowing was not getting done. Sewer cap at our site was "mudded in" and could not be removed and I had no time to dig it out. W/E were fine. CG has a large tornado shelter. Mix of seasonals and traveling workers, majority of the rigs in good shape although some sites were cluttered. It is fine for a day or two. - gumper
Jun 2019 - $28.00
Very nice park, well maintained and clean. Spacious site with easy access in all ways. Quiet even though there was some kind of a car show going on nearby. Just passing through on a destination, would stay here again and longer. - The Border Collies
Aug 2014 - $20.00
Pomona State Park is a wonderful state park with a lot of good amenities (lake, beaches, hiking trails, boat ramps). Our nightly rate reflects buying the KS annual camping pass, plus the KS annual vehicle permits (one per vehicle RV+Car), plus 3 utilities (50 amp elec, water, sewer) for a month.
We stayed here in February and really appreciated the ability to stay in a state park setting, with full hookups, in winter.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Even though we were one of the few campers here, this time of year, the park was regularly patrolled and it felt very safe. Staff was onsite during the week and readily available to answer questions or to help as needed.
The park is generally in good repair and well maintained. Some of the picnic tables, at a few sites, are in desperate need of replacement; but otherwise the park facilities were in good working order.
The park is pretty, quiet, and serene. Although we could hear (several) barking dogs from the surrounding private residences outside the park, there was otherwise no road noise, railroad tracks, etc to detract from the park's serenity.
There are quite a few campsites/camp-loops, ranging from water-front primitive camping to full-hookup RV sites available. We stayed in the Burning Heart camp-loop, which has full-hookups and is available for long(er) term stays.
The roads are paved, leading to gravel sites. Most sites were generally level and wide enough for an awning or slide-outs. There is not a lot of visual separation between the sites but they are well separated and about average for a state park (vs a tightly packed RV park).
Laundry facilities are available all year and the machines were in good working order, inside of a clean and usable laundry room.
The site had 50 amp service, a frost free (non-heated) hydrant, and sewer hookup. All utilities worked well. Other sites offer 30amp and water only, and there are several primitive campsites throughout. All sites have a fire-ring and a picnic table.
We had reasonable Verizon wireless internet access and had good ATT cellular access. Both were within 2-4 bars of LTE service (unboosted).
The park is located between two small towns, Pomona to the east and Lyndon to the west and offered very basic shopping and a few restaurants. Ottawa is the closest town of any size, offering traditional shopping and dining options. Kansas City is about an hour north.
Overall we really enjoyed our time here at Pomona State Park and will definitely be returning. - Geom
Jun 2014 - $22.00
This is a roomy state park with lots of grass and shade trees. There are sites of all sizes for both large rigs and smaller equipment. This a good park for an overnight stay or longer term. Swimming, marina, basketball, disc golf course, volleyball, tetherball. Equipment for check out at park office. It is clean and staff is friendly. This is on our "top ten" list. Price listed includes full hookups. - ksgypsy
Sep 2009 - $21.00
This campground is on Pomona Lake 24 miles south of Topeka. The campground is absolutely gorgeous with lots of trees and very spacious campsites. Every site is shaded. There are several different camping areas and some are primitive, but there are many full hookup sites and even more water/electric sites available. The sites in Burning Heart area are full hookup and there are several very long pull through sites that are quite nice. Most of the sites have only a view of the water, but there are a few water front sites near the marina. And several sites have no view of the water at all, but the wooded surroundings are very beautiful. We didn't use the shower facilities but the building looks very new and modern. We will definitely camp here again. The only reason I didn't give a 10 is that the cellphone service was marginal. Our wireless Internet card did work there however. - benidew
May 2012 - $11.00
This is a very nice COE park. There are several COE campgrounds in this section of Pomona Lake and all looked very good. Rate reflects a Golden Age discount for .50 amp, water, and sewer. There are only twelve of these sites and quite a number of electric and water sites. Contractors seemed nice and informative. We would definitely stay here again. - PALPJL
Sep 2018 - $18.00
Campgrounds are set among the sprawling and well-manicured Shawnee County Park, the most prominent feature of which is Lake Shawnee. This park is home to many community activities and the campgrounds are very popular with local Topekans-especially on holidays and long weekends. Campgrounds are gated at night and campsites line the edge of the water providing satisfying views and occasional stunning sunsets. During our stay, fellow campers were generally quiet and well-behaved, however, there was some late night music and other crowd noise. Weekdays were quiet and peaceful. There are no sewer connections. Restrooms are among the cleanest we have ever experienced and they stayed that way throughout our time here. The Laundry room was small but clean. Campsites are very close to one another and are all back-in sites. Roads around the park are paved, but campsites are all gravel. Site #57 is close to the restroom facilities but very unlevel (our automatic leveler system over-stroked upon set up). We stayed for 8 days. - TMN-15
Jul 2018 - $18.00
We enjoyed this park the last time we were here so we came back and stayed 2 nights. Lots of hiking trails and kayaking on the lake was especially nice. If you need to shop, there are lots of options very close. - Peg and Bill Shuffstall
May 2018 - $18.00
Stayed right after Memorial Day weekend. The grass needed to be cut in spots. There seemed to be RVs that are here on a long term basis that may only be used on the weekends. Some of those have stuff sitting around outside on the ground. My site was very level. The staff was very helpful. Lots of biking and hiking trails, bike rental, golf course and water activities nearby. Laundry near my site with 2 washers and 2 driers. - mrracechaser
Nov 2019 - $36.00
It feels like camping in the Kansas wilderness-with amenities. Right off I-70, this CG is like a little gated city within a fenced periphery of trees and vegetation-cannot hear or see the outside world. The park looks brand new (even after 11 years!), modern and well-planned. All sites and internal roads are concrete, the pull-through RV sites are custom-shaped for parking ease (and protection of the thick, green grass between sites) and the park is well-lighted at night. Dumpsters are strategically placed, there's a re-cycling container and propane is available on site. As with most parks, this one has its permanent residents but the rigs are new, artfully insulated for winter and the sites are neat and clean. Amenities we didn't use include a dog walk, pool, playground and a well-built shower/bathroom that doubles as a severe weather shelter. 4 washers ($2 per)/4 dryers ($1.75 per) work well, are clean and conveniently located. Pull-through site 50, although completely concrete, required blocking & leveling. Utilities were modern, center-located and worked flawlessly, as did park Wi-Fi and cable TV. Water connections are insulated and heated. We stayed 7 nights during the off-season. With a nighttime security gate and an on-premises BBQ restaurant, this place seems to have it all. Staying in the Topeka area? Don't even bother to look for a better CG-it doesn't exist! - TMN-15
Oct 2019 - $40.00
This is what all campgrounds should be. Roads and sites are concrete. Roads are easy to maneuver and the sites are huge, both length and width. We could have parked a truck in front and in back of our 5th wheel. Fairly close to the I70, so it was easy on and off. Cable was good and the wi-fi was very good. I used it the whole 4 days we were there. Everything here is spotless. If you need propane , set your tank at the end of your site and they will pick it up, fill it and bring it back to your site. There was a little noise from the interstate but not much. Well definitely stop here again when traveling thru. - jgothier
Oct 2019 - $41.00
Now THIS is an RV Park. So many parks could take a page from these good folks. Arrival notes: If you're traveling I-70, I'd recommend using exit 364B versus exit 365. Both are usable, but 364 is a bit more RV-friendly, especially for larger rigs. Upon check-in I spoke for a few minutes with one of the managers and learned that the park is owned by a construction company. Those commercial construction roots are very evident in the park, which I happen to like. If you're looking for quaint & quirky, this is not it. All roads & pads are concrete with well planned radii to accommodate easy in & out. Power, water, sewer & WiFi were all proper. The large, clean & grassy dog park is a nice touch. I'm not a pool person, but this amenity is very nice as well. Whether you are passing through or here for an extended stay, this park is an exceptional value. - Mr_Mrs_T
Jun 2016 - $9.00
Nice campground. Not an easy access off of I-80, but easy off of I-335 & US 50. Has beach. Nice & quite. - be rob
Apr 2015 - $18.00
Beautiful view of the lake. Difficult to find. Was on the opposite side of the lake from where our gps took us. Once there it was wonderful. Lantern hooks and fire rings were heavy duty. Toilets with plumbing throughout the grounds were basic but clean and well lit. Did not use showers. Paved roads, gravel sites and lots of grassy areas. Dump site nice and large, easy to use - Minniediver
Sep 2010 - $99.00
This is a Corp of Engineer by-reservation-only group camp site. The facility will handle smaller TTs and pop-ups, but it was probably designed primarily for tent camping because the dirt pads aren't long and would not support heavy weight. All but three sites are dry camping. Those three co-located sites do have electric/water. It's family friendly. There is a playground, basketball net, grass ball field, volleyball court, and a picnic pavilion. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables. There is a bath/shower house and a boat ramp is nearby. The campground is isolated from the rest of the COE RV parks in the area so it provides nice privacy for groups. My rating is based on like Group Site facilities. Golden Age/Access cards are accepted for a discount. - RLM
Jun 2015 - $11.00
There is a mixture of tents and RV sites with a mixture of 30 amp only or 30 amp with water or there is 30/50 amps with water and sewage. Most sites are fairly level. Sites are clean. - From the Kites
Sep 2010 - $16.00
This is a decent COE campground that would probably fit well into a few days or weekend of camping. But there were some negatives that chipped away at my rating. It has good paved access roads, a fair amount of space between well maintained sites, partial shade thru out, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. There is a nice playground for the kiddos. The sites will accommodate all rigs. Its half 30A electric and half dry camping sites. The dry sites are the same size and design as the RV sites and would please most tent campers who don’t want electricity. There are only four or five pull thru sites which in my opinion doesn’t rate as a place with pull thrus. 3G cell, satellite, and TV signals are good. There are also some 50A sites, but they are occupied by custodians or volunteers during the season. The negatives are that the majority of sites have some degree of fore and aft level issues. It is hard to understand, that in this mostly flat campground in a flat state like Kansas, they couldn’t get that right. The four restroom buildings don’t have shower capabilities. That is in a separate building in the campground which is some distance from the majority of camp sites. The lighting in all of the buildings are on day/night sensors. During the day the inside of the buildings are dark. The only water faucets where you can connect a hose to fill tanks is at the bathroom buildings and that takes a long hose. Handicap sites probably don’t meet ADA compliance since they are gravel and won’t accommodate a wheelchair. Not to mention that they aren’t even marked as handicap on the site posts. The voltage was on the low side, but it is a 30A campground. The fee/info booth is completely closed on Tuesday and Wednesday despite there being an abundance of paid attendants to man it 7 days a week. I have a hard time rating this CG. It has served my purpose for being here and I got my monies worth. As mentioned, it’s a decent CG, but if you are familiar with the higher quality of COE campgrounds then this one rates somewhat below that standard. Access and Golden Age discounts are honored here. - RLM
