The campgrounds are nice. Every spot has plenty of shade and have plenty of room between sites. If the site across from me wasn't empty, backing in would've been a bit more exciting. The park itself was nice. It was peaceful and had plenty to do. It was a quick poke into Fort Scott. We plan to return in the near future. The quoted rate includes a entry fee into the park. We camped at Crawford State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Stop by the hatchery for a few minutes to see the fish. The each campground had it's own playground, but the one by the beach was bigger and the kids really enjoyed it. There is also a cafe near the beach. We didn't partake, but it what busy when it closed and packed when it opened.

We called this Lake Farlington when Dad brought us here as kids. That's still the name of the lake, but for camping you have to look for Crawford State Park. My brother and I would start out fishing, but soon jumped in to swim, when the fish didn't jump onto our hooks. It's a beautiful place, and the campground is quite comfortable and convenient, except that the only sewer connection is for the campground host. (I'll have to think about applying for that position for the summer, when I'm finished with this tour.) The sites are back-in, and perpendicular to the lanes, so getting into them by myself requires a skill I'm yet lacking, but I got there, mainly because all the other sites were empty (no one goes camping in Kansas in December, and for good reason), and I could use them to advantage. Once there, though, this is the kind of park I'd like to stay in, assuming it had sewer. Well-treed, but not overgrown. Long walks around the lake. My kind of place. We camped at Crawford State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Crawford County is the home of the fried chicken wars. Don't forget Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's.

Beautiful park built by the CCC, we camped mid week and the campground was not full. No maps were available and it took time to locate where everything was located. There is a road that goes completely around the lake and campsites are spread out. Sites with electric only (no water) are on the side of the campground road closest to the lake, sites with electric and water on the opposite side.

We camped in Rocky Cove and there was no bathroom in the campground so you would have to walk or drive a short distance to Oak Point to get to them. Showers were OK, showing some wear and faucets were broken in some stalls. We camped at Crawford State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We were pleasantly surprised when we found this campground. This state park has ample tall shade trees for each site. Most sites also had concrete pads (newer sites in the park). Larger rigs will have problems here because of the site set up. We have a 32 foot travel trailer and had to move slowly. Overall, a very nice find in the middle of nowhere. We camped at Crawford State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice lake with lots of shady camping, roads are paved. You do have to pay an additional car pass of $3 a day. Very large area for kids to enjoy away from the water. We camped at Crawford State Park in a Travel Trailer.
