This is a very basic camping place. Pretty much run down with lots of deferred maintenance. Most of the residents appear to be permanent. They do have wifi which is surprising! That said, it is the only acceptable RV place in town. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older park that serves basic need and is under new management. We stayed 8 days and manager discounted our rate as a pleasant surprise. Manager is very pleasant and accommodating. There are no assigned RV spots and it is self serve. There are several pull throughs. There are 2 entrances, one on Vine and one on 6th st. Use the on on vine if you have a big rig. The entrance on 6th is a little steep and you may drag bottom. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Motorhome.

This is a campground with a facade only the owners could love. But from previous reviews, they sound like good people trying to make a go of a difficult situation, and I hope they do. I spoke with one of them who was helpful and personable. He did the right thing when we ended up at a site with electric only -- he cut the $30 full hook up price by half. Now that's what I call good business sense, hoping we'll return. However, there are disappointments here. Watch for potholes and ruts (a few sites have concrete pads, however). Only one person/family can use each of the 2 bathrooms/showers at a time. Bathroom hadn't been cleaned in awhile, ran out of paper towels and toilet paper. Greenery includes weeds. Random trash is evident. Sites are close and not attractive. Some sites have only electric; one had sewer but a cap that wouldn't fit over the ground pipe. While most rigs here were well-maintained motor homes, others (appearing to be permanent or long-term residents) would make you cringe -- although I never felt unsafe. Wifi is present but useless (why pay to have it if we can't get online?). Daytime traffic noise, much less at night. So, can you put up with all that for the price? For us, at $15, the answer is yes; at $30, without internet, it's weighted against. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Daily rate quoted was the monthly rate. Pictures of the park and amenities on their site are undoubtedly photoshopped and do not in any way represent the actual park, they are blatant lies!!! Their website states that the park is completely renovated, lie. Pictures shown are not from this park, lie. Services listed: Free Hi Speed WI-FI on site, Fact: true but very sporadic service. Children Activities (horseshoes, tether ball, swing set, video games), Fact: no children activities, lie! Laundry Facility, website picture shows multiple machines, Fact: there is a laundry with 2 washers and dryers. Vending Machines, Fact: one machine. Bath House with Hot Showers, Fact: there is a men and women's shower (1 stall for each) that are marginal to say the least. Appears that they are not maintained daily (dirty) and lighting in both is awful. 24/7 Support, Fact: Have no idea what this means? Discount to the "Historic Restaurant Als Chickenette", Fact: true, the owner of the park also owns the restaurant. This park has been under different names through the years .. Sunflower RV Park, Shady Grove RV Park and now, RV Village on Vine. We've stayed here in the past and the park has deteriorated from our last stay. It's really a sad situation and such an inconvenience to see RV'ers come into the park only to turn around and leave. Bigger rigs towing a vehicle often have to disconnect to get turned around. Interstate 70 passes on the north side of Hays and the rv park is located 2.5 miles through town to the south side of Hays. I would estimate that it requires 30 to 45 minutes for a traveler to exit the interstate, go to the park, turn around and return to the interstate. I'm posting this review to warn travelers to pay no attention to the park's website. It does not represent the park and is completely deceptive!! We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hays is a wonderful community with great shopping and restaurants. Spend some time visiting the historic downtown area and take the history walk throughout the business district. Other attractions include Fort Hays State University, a regional health center, a new sports complex, a beautiful water park and a regional airport to name a few. Another plus is the location. Hays is approximately half-way between Kansas City and Denver.

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

As person who grew up in Hays, Kansas, this park has had little improvement over the years. We stayed there in the early spring, 2016 in our 40 ft diesel pusher and found out they were under new ownership. We were pleased that the new owner was young and was making much needed improvements to the park. I made another visit (not in RV) in December, 2016. Many of the sites that were gravel were now concrete pads. Improvements to the plumbing and electrical were also noted to be new during our March, 2016 visit. There were also several new sites. It would appear more people are utilizing the upgraded facilities. We will be staying here in the future and appreciate the upgrades being done. Hays has been an under-served town regarding RV park facilities. If you have a big rig, access the entrance from Vine St. The north entrance may be too steep for big rigs to clear without scraping bottom. I give the new owner of the RV park an A+ for putting this park on a path of needed improvements. We plan on staying here again later this year. Tips for other Campers:

Use Vine St. entrance if concerned about dragging bottom. Entrance slope is shallow an was no concern with a 40 ft diesel pusher RV.

Daily rate was for a weekly stay. This park was previously Sunflower RV Park and was a disgrace to the city of Hays. It is now under new ownership and work is being done to make necessary changes. While it is far from a 10 rating, it did meet our needs for our stay. It's a bare bones park however the pad was level and the utilities (electricity, water and sewer) were conveniently located at the site. This park works fine to visit family, Fort Hays State University, the sports complex or Hays Medical Center. There are no amenities at the park. This RV Park is bad, but it is the best in Hays. The site had no pad of any kind, was very badly rutted. Worst of all, the water spout was right beside (less than 3 inches) and lower than the lip of the sewer. At $25/night it was overpriced. Would not stay here again. I have been in cow pastures that were smoother and had better grass. This park is located next to a busy intersection and is pretty noisy. Had I known I would have stayed in Wakeeney or Russell. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Drove by this park. It's right on the road with questionable people living here. According to one of the tenants, some of the sites have power that work and some don't. Some of the sewers work, and some don't. So, DON'T stop. If you are heading west stay in Ellis at the city park. It's about 17 miles away, well worth the stop and it's only $15.00 with power and water!! We did not stay at this park. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Motorhome.

No pads to park on, no patios, no tables. Just long grass, no management on site, nasty bathrooms, will never stop in Hays KS again. The only other park in town is El Charro which is just as bad if not worse! Keep on driving to the next town or park at Wal-Mart for the night. I don't think we've ever stayed in a worse RV park. We were forced to stay here when we had car trouble. The place is right next to a highway bypass and close to train tracks. It is very poorly maintained and the restrooms are dirty. The women's restroom was locked, and you had to get a key from the manager (who is not on site, but at a nearby pizza place), and take it right back. The electricity did not work at first site we tried. The water hydrants are makeshift. There are absolutely no amenities that we could see. We only saw the manager twice; once when we went to the pizza place to pay, another time when he drove around to be sure everyone had paid. If you have a choice, do not stop here! Drive on to Wakeeney or Cedar Bluff Reservoir. We camped at RV Village on Vine (formerly Shady Grove RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.
