Have to also purchase a Kansas day pass for each day. Most sites are without sewer. The sites with sewer are parked along a curb. When we first arrived I mistakenly thought we were going to have to parallel park. In order for our hookups to work, our entrance door was out on the asphalt. Our picnic table was on the other side. Not at all convenient. Some pulled in the other way dragging all hoses under their rigs. That didn't seem feasible for our big unit. Fire rings seem to be where you throw your garbage. This is the 3rd park we found this to be true. Unappealing, so we opted out of a campfire. Damp moldy leaves surrounded the area, even the asphalt, so my husband got out the leaf blower so our entrance way was clear. It appeared the park had not been maintained in a while. We probably would stay without a sewer as those sights looked much nicer. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Small town of Wamego nearby (about 20 minutes) with quaint little shops and the Wizard of Oz museum a must, if you're a fan. Lots of history and fun. Cross the street and walk down the yellow brick road to the Friendship House for lunch or a treat from their bakery!

Overall Rating:

There are four units within the park and several campgrounds, I stayed in the Rocky Ford area of the park, which is in the unit of the park, south of the Tuttle Creek Lake dam and just outside of Manhattan, KS. The Rocky Ford loop sites all have water and electric (50/30/20). There are two dump stations across from the showerhouse. The loop has ample shade and many old growth trees. The sites are nice and wide. The majority of the site is finely packed gravel lined with landscape ties. Each site also included a handicap accessible picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hook. Sites along the northern side of the loop have a chance of looking over a smaller lake below the Tuttle Creek Lake dam. It isn't that serene, but plenty of anglers were around it's banks during my stay. The rate is right and the facilities are well taken care of, though aging a bit. The two significant factors into why I gave these ratings is because of the employee at the pay house and uneven enforcement of rules. When we arrived, we pulled to the pay shack like most state parks have. The employee inside was not the most helpful and did not give a warm welcoming feel. The other detractor for me was poor rule enforcement. I rarely saw a park ranger patrolling the loop. About 4 sites within the loop that had the appearance of permanent residents. The KDWPT camping policy is 14 days max (with a possible one-time extension for 14 days) and then campers must vacate the park for 5 days. Many sites broke quiet time with loud parties/music or revving of engines on ATVs (that aren't allowed in the park) while being worked on in the site. These detractors, hopefully not always permanent detractors, from our stay would not prevent us from returning. The location of the park and the rate are too good to pass on. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is great striking distance to Manhattan, KS and the real reason we stayed, the Bill Snyder Family Stadium for a K-State Football game. Most of the park occupants for the weekend were there for the game. I'd recommend making a reservation during football season as the loop was completely sold out.

Two nights in state park in off season, only approved sites had water and electric turned on though RV'S could boondock as able. Very quiet and clean. Good distance between sites. Good water pressure. Two dump stations for quick and easy usage. Most, if not all, sites pull through. Nice new playground. $19 per night, $5 per day vehicle fee, $3 processing fee (out-of-state fees). Wood $3. Facilities not open before April opening date. Camped in a travel trailer. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Great college town. Go to Aggieville next to Kansas State University for great food. Walk out at Konsa Prarie Hiking Trails (2.5, 4, and 6 mile] through rolling Prarie fields. Great small zoo, perfect for children.

Overall Rating:

The state park is quite large and has a few different campgrounds spread out below Tuttle Creek dam. Our pull-thru was a crescent shaped driveway off of a one-lane road. 30 amps plus water at site with dump stations in the area. Roads and pads are asphalt. Site included a gravel patio, new picnic table, and fire ring. The campground is laid out so there are wide green spaces with trees between rows. Costs $18 plus $5 per day for the tow car. There is a small camp store with firewood and free little library. Boat launches, canoe rentals, disc golf in walking distance. 15 minutes to K State or to shopping. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is very nice and clean, but they only have a few sites that have sewer hook ups. They need to spend the money to upgrade there sewer system and put in more sites for the longer staying individuals. Also they need to change there policy on how long a person can stay at one site. Moving every two weeks is very upsetting to us campers. When we come to camp we don't want to have to move to a different site after 2 weeks of stay. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice campground with level pads. Most of the pads are pea gravel/clay and where the full hook-ups are, they are black-top. I spend every winter there to trout fish and bird hunt. The water is mostly turned off that time of year, but they do have a few frost free hydrants that can be used to fill your holding tank. The staff at the state park office are very friendly and extremely helpful. The park has a disc golf course, playgrounds, and very small store that is open most days and a 10 acre pond where trout are stocked from November to March. The state park is located a few miles from Manhattan, KS. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Excellent place to stay with nature's bounty at your finger tips. The lake is great for kayaking and canoeing and fishing. The trail along the river is an added bonus. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Motorhome.

We're not sure which of the Tuttle Creek campgrounds we stayed in. It is confusing in the Trailer Life guide but here goes: a big, wooded park just below the dam, with many opportunities for shade. Pull through sites are 'arcs' off the park roadways, hook-ups are on the wrong side, no matter how you do it! No big deal if you've enough cord. We laughed about it. Bathrooms could best be described as 'institutional'. Reminded me of the penitentiary! Just kidding. Not the cleanest, and it took a LONG time to get warm water, but they worked. Rates are a little confusing, and you had to pay extra to unhook your tow vehicle. We chose not to unhook, and saved $50 or $60 by not going into town for dinner, groceries, and maybe a movie. Good for us, bad for the local merchants. Seems to be a case of spending a dollar to earn a dime, but hey. Let the state park people and the Chamber of Commerce battle it out, I guess. Next time I think we'll stay up north at the Tuttle Creek 'Fancy Creek' unit up north. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Motorhome.

I stay here a lot and I really wish that there was someway that they could put in more sewer spots. They only have 8 spots with sewer and when you have to move to a different spot after 2 weeks, it would be nice to move to another sewer spot, and you cannot stay in the same spot longer than 2 weeks unless you have a special letter from the park. NOT COOL !!!! It is a very clean park, and quiet, unless it is game weekend or country stampede, I highly recommend NOT to stay there at these times. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

It is a typical Core of Engineers Park, nicely landscaped and very clean. The showers looked like brand new. We were passing through so only stayed one night but would like to return. It is a great place to stay if you have son or daughter at Kansas State University to visit. We camped at Tuttle Creek State Park / River Pond Campground in a Motorhome.
