ACE facility ( also know as Army Engineers Corps), great campground, nice camp hosts. Good fishing spot. Wish we could have stayed longer. - Bajadrmr
Jun 2014 - $11.00
We found a secluded site on parcel level ground and overlooking water tails. We have been back 3 times already this year and love that spot. The coons are a little annoying at night and will pretty much walk up to you! Our site was clean and well maintained! Love this place for a adult camping adventure. - tanyay78

Why oh why did we stop here? The site was so narrow we could hold a hot dog on a stick out our window and roast it on the neighbor's smoky "fire". Thankfully, they were friendly and tried to talk quietly til about midnight when they retired. There are a few wide sites at one end, and they get progressively narrower along the road. Turns are tight. For us, this reinforced the need to better read RV Park Reviews. - Windjammer

Axtel is another splendid CoE property. Well-maintained, clean, quiet, and comfortable. A huge sandy beach is located near the entrance. The campground winds around a cove in two directions and many sites have a view of the water. The A loop has the tightest turns and the least attractive sites, including a loud buzzing water treatment plant and road noise directly behind. Best sites are in Areas B-E with plenty of shade, and large gravel pads. Many sites in these sections have direct access to the water where you can beach your boat, fish, or jump in for a swim. Several Buddy sites are also available for camping with friends. Area G (numbered 121-137 sites) are located on a hill without access to the lake, but most have good views and deep shade.
Areas I and H are only open on holiday weekends. Both are along the tail waters instead of the main lake. Area I is located high on the cliffs, while Area H is down near the water.
We were here on a busy summer weekend and the CG was quiet at night. Two hosts are on property and the CoE rangers patrol regularly. Really nice lake destination and we will be sure to stay here again. - Flying Mantis

The campground is nice , but the park attendant was very, very rude he was very hateful and a smart alec to everyone in our party and other people that were camping there said the same thing too. - Wes payne

McDaniel, KY Axtel COE Campground. Great COE campground with waterfront and water view sites. Most sites require some leveling but didn't see any extreme. There are some big rig friendly sites just make sure you research or call to inquire. W/E or Electric Only or Nonelectric sites available, dump station onsite. Each site has gravel/blacktop pad, fire ring, picnic table and fish cleaning station. There is a beach and playground. Very calm campground in our eyes even when mostly full. Great places to fish from shore or there is marina across street. Bathhouses pretty standard, charmin toilet paper!! No hand soap though, clean. Verizon and ATT worked very well no issues. One negative thing but not huge no selling of firewood or ice within campground had to go 1 mile up the road to hardware store to get. Roads to get to campground not bad typical lake country roads once off major but very doable just take your time. - CmcDowell

So, if you're booking on the Reserve America site, know this: the map that's there isn't CLOSE to being an accurate representation of the park. As such, I booked a site I never would have booked, had I known how things really are. Most of the electric sites are set up on the 'wagon-wheel' format, but the "hubs" of the wheel are pretty tight. I couldn't even get my 30' TT around one without dropping off the road, and even shorter TTs won't stay on the asphalt either. There are also some really close driveways (ours touched the neighbors, at the road), and a couple >90-degree turns. Our site, B18, had a beautiful view of the rusted chain link fence which separates the campground from the neighbor's property, which featured a burn pile with old tires on it. Thankfully, he didn't burn anything while we were there. However, there are some nice sites at the park. Most of the best of them are in the primitive camp area. That's right, the really long, scenic view-of-the-lake sites are non-electric. Seems kind of backward, but that's how it is. Oh, and the dump station?? It's on a hill, and you'll never make it to the correct side of the dump station if you're pulling a larger trailer, the turn is really sharp, too. The beach is nice, and on the other side of the highway, but it's also a local favorite (cause it's free), so there were some, uh..., ne'er do wells that visited, that sort of ruined the enjoyment. If we would ever consider going back (and that's a 'probably not'), we'd book a site in the "d" section, in the 40s lot numbers. - fastalker64

We had a wonderful time camping here. Our site was in the very back of the campground. Very quiet. More than enough room for 2 tents and 5 people. Restrooms were clean and nearby. Attendants were very friendly and helpful. The only complaint was we had to drive to the swimming beach. Could walk but I have health problems. - Floor_it
Jun 2016 - $22.00
Very nice COE campground. RV sites are not on the river. A lot of trees. Good access for big rigs. They told us it fills up on weekends but we came in during the week and they had plenty open sites. Very nice and peaceful. - Coley

a very small park with few transients. Mostly longer stay. No reservations (the office will tell you not needed) but the host is often not on site. figuring out how to get from the office to the campground is difficult because a hill is in the way and there are no signs. Not big rig friendly...difficult to find a site with both 50 amp and sewer. On the flip side the office staff is nice and helpful...just expect difficulties if you arrive after hours or on the weekend. - tom&kathryn

This is a very fundamental park. Stayed two nights and would return. It is quiet. There are activities associated with a Fairground and locals bring their kids to play in the water feature. Trailer parking and class C parking can be in a wooded/shaded part of the park. We stayed in a 40' class A with no slides. It is a back in only and towed parking is tight. We would return based on our experience.
The County staff went out of their way to stay for our late arrival. They were awesome. - Travelall
Sep 2015 - $9.00
Rate reflects Passport America rate. After pulling into the facility for an overnight stay, we were met by the Host who gave us several options for sites. We chose a 30 amp site with water which gave us a clear site to the south for our on-board DTV satellite dish. Hookups were on the wrong side but it worked with both electrical and water pressure was good. The host came back later and made sure everything was good with us and to see if we needed anything. We would stay here again. - StarlifterFE
