Upon recommendations to this campgrounds and that Site# 6, a pull-thru on the Primitive Loop, was the prime camping site, we took our pop-up tent camper for 3 days. I guess there's a reason it's called the Primitive Loop. If water had been up, this site would have been perfect for fishing (but we didn't know that they let the water out in October) and it drew back the depth of the inlet against this site which exposed muddy beds and discharged tires and debris. For this loop, we navigated narrow country paved road with drop offs, most site parking for the more experienced campers, barking dogs, busy road traffic as everyone rents golf carts mainly to get to a restroom (which are few throughout this campground) the closest to us was located up a steep road, or you could cut through on a footpath but watch for snakes and poison ivy. Our restroom was always flooded from people taking showers, no hand soap or paper towels....but no mosquitoes, spider webs or bugs to mention. Lovely tall pine woods. Drove around to other sites and found canal front sites that would have been better for us. Over that side of campgrounds, they have open grassy fields and early morning deer feeding, rock bank fishing and walk on point shoreline, pull-thru sites and quiet. Quiet time came at 10P, mandatory for our loop, except for the golf cart traffic. They believe in recycle bins and plenty of metal dumpsters. Zero litter. Resident manager lives in camper on the grounds. Management staff an absolute delight and added to the redeeming value of coming back. We camped at Canal COE in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Golf carts are used to drive over to "Patti's 1800 Settlement" so be careful not to run them over, they are everywhere. Didn't notice any skunks, mice or raccoons.

Very nice COE Park located in a beautiful area. Sites were asphalt and level. Our site was very wide and long plenty of room for parking. They do have FHU sites but they were all booked. All utilities worked well. There might be an issue getting satellite coverage due to the trees, but we did not hook up the dish. Would definitely here again. Very quiet and relaxing. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Another awesome COE campground. Canal is clean and well maintained. A lot of the sites especially in the Beach Loop are on the hill with slopes up or down but all come to level on the top. Our site was an awesome lake view overlooking the swimming area. We were only here two days during the week so pretty Mello. If you have golf cart then you will fit right in, almost every one has one, LOL. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure to visit the marina and walk the jetty on Kentucky lake. The small town of Grand River has a few restaurants, grocery store and ice cream shops. Also visit Patty's Settlement. Between the lakes recreation area is about 30 minutes away for biking, hiking and viewing wild life. Enjoy...

Overall Rating:

We stayed here in early/mid June. Site 49, Woods Loop. Not many sites have FHU, so you have to be choosy if that’s what you need. A short walk to the beach and playground. Wildlife all around. Our site was spacious with lovely views. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves here very much and would go back.

A note as we walked through the campground...the closer you got to the water & docks in Fisherman’s Loop, the mayflies got thick. They were not noticeable in Woods Loop, Beach Loop & Hill Loop. We camped at Canal COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Elk & Bison Prairie Reserve. Around June 10, the bison babies were out. Go at dusk or dawn. The Welcome Center sells entrance cards 3 for $10. Great value for the money, as well as enjoyable for kids. We went at 7pm and got stuck in a bison traffic jam. Unforgettable.

Site 98 in the Browns Point loop had a gorgeous sunset view of the dam and a barge. Our site had a picnic table, fish cleaning table and fence to protect you from falling down the hill and into the lake. Most sites are shady. Very large park with lots of trees and 8 loops. Canal View loop is flat with no trees. Only a few sites are FHU. Located off of I-24 exit 31. We camped at Canal COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We did not make reservations for this site. I looked at available sites the day before our arrival and there was plenty of empty sites. When we arrived @~5pm, there was only a couple sites available. The site that I picked out of the two was on the "Hill" and it was a pull-through and not very level. If we are ever back in the area, I will make reservations for the "Canal" area. It's level and more spacious. Talking to our next door neighbor, he told me that this time of year, most of the campers are retired from the local area and have been coming here together for years. They are all fishermen & women. They practice for weekend fishing tournaments. It's a beautiful park. The interior blacktop roads are a little dated. Many golf carts used by seniors since the parks is spread out. Verizon was good, T-Mobile iffy, OTA TV reception good. Dump station has very easy access. The Land Between The Lakes is a nice National Preserve. Many things to see & do. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Grand Rivers is a neat little town with Patti's 1800 Settlement. Patti's Restaurant is being rebuilt from the fire year and half ago. We were told that August 2019 is now the new open date.

Took an early spring trip and stayed at this great park. The sites we were able to check out were level and there were a lot of choices in the type of site: river views, open fields, or even a little "beach" area. Looks like a lot of good fishing in the area and the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation area is about a 2 minute trip away with lots of trails for hiking and mountain biking. The only major downside to this campground is that there are only a few bathhouses so depending on your site it could be quite a distance to get to the bathroom, though they are kept clean and neat. Quiet at night, even with a campground full of families enjoying spring break and great night skies. We camped at Canal COE in a Motorhome.

This is a large COE campground on Lake Barkley. Site 114 is a pull-thru across the road from the canal and parallel to the road. The curb-side faces the road, which means we have a good view of the canal, but the patio area is right beside the road. There is a large open field behind our site. There was barge traffic all day and night. While that did not bother us it may bother some. Several of the loops had real tight turns and the sites were close together and uneven. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Rivers is only a few miles away. We stopped here specifically so we could eat at Pattis Settlement. We were sad to find out it had burned to the ground a few months ago. Instead we went to the Lodge at the dam. Good food plus a salad bar.

We stayed in site 113, one of the sites they have for walk-ins. LOTS of space between sites. Canal visible through trees. Staff pleasant. Frequent golf cart traffic indicative of frequent visiting. We've found COE parks to be among the best and this was no exception. We camped at Canal COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed for 4 nights during this holiday weekend and were not even able to sit and talk at our own campsite due to it being quiet time. Very strict rules. Clean but they do enforce quiet time and your visitors have to pay to visit you. We were told on several times - just for talking. They had their favorites and wouldn't tell us so we could talk to them. When you go camping you don't want to go to bed at 10:00. So if you want to talk and hang out as young people then don't go here. Campers are very close and you have no privacy. You're on a gravel lot and you can only park your golf cart there. Cars have to be parked in a lot by the lake. We'll never go back!!! We camped at Canal COE in a Travel Trailer.
