Pros: lovely area, nice hosts, clean & neat. Cons: traffic noise especially at night, no access to the lovely pool which was being serviced, the "Lake Trail" adjacent to the campground. Marked with a sign & discussed on the website. This is a very vertical path, irregular & rocky as well as slippery. Once we got to the bottom, a fisherman told us he had just "hooked a copperhead". It was floating dead in the water-large. We northerners got a bit skittish & scampered back up the hill. The trail is not for the physically infirm or snakeophobes. Wouldn't be our first choice for a return overnight stop. - Debra Zillmer

I chose a deluxe site (#14) which included a level surface, patio with furniture & umbrella. You share with the "buddy" next door but they have given privacy by bushes between the two patios. Other sites in the vicinity which were regular pull thrus looked quite unlevel. When the park is full it is pretty tight for all the vehicles. Nice pool, etc. for kids. Big grassy area that also includes a dog park. The sites on the other side (#50-95) are larger and seem more desirable but I do not know what utilities are available in that portion of the park. Good location; good road into the park. Helpful staff. - Freedom Bus

We stayed here the weekend before Fourth of July and other than the brutal heat at the time, really enjoyed it. The campground is well kept; looks like new gravel laid throughout the interior roads and sites. The RV park is not far off of the interstate, but feels like you are up in the mountains in a secluded area. The pool was well occupied while we were there; kids and families enjoying the weekend. Lots of room for tent campers and many varieties of RVs. Our site seemed pretty level, but our RV wheels on the downhill side ended up in the air after using the leveling system. We needed to put lynx levelers under the jacks because the leveling system kept showing a fault due to the angle. The laundry room has four washers and two dryers, and last washer load must be started by 8 p.m., as they lock the laundry room door at that time. Site hook ups are grouped together between two adjoining sites, so you are close to one neighbor, but much more room on the other side. Some sites had cement patios and were very spacious. We walked around some and noticed a few resident campers; their rigs and sites were well maintained so they didn't stick out from the rest. - Maga04

This campground spoiled us! The sites are huge and so private. Not a bad site on the grounds! Just beautiful and peaceful! We stayed in B10 and it was exceptional. We reserved our site online a month ahead or so. Much of the campground is non-reservable and there was plenty of open sites throughout the weekend. Our site was next to the bathroom (no shower in this bathroom, but showers were a bit further down). Despite being next to the bathrooms, our site was so tucked away and wooded we never noticed anyone walking by. Plenty of hiking trails and a few lead to the lake. The lake is so clear, you can wade or swim at your own risk, it's not restricted unless you go down to the marina. The marina is busy! Lots of boating going on. There also a little place to get some pizza and burgers at the marina, nothing stellar, but something if you need it. A 10-15 minute drive towards Holly Bay (follow Holly Bay signs) to the public beach. We loved it since the water was super clear and nice. Good idea to bring an umbrella or some kind of shade & lots of inflatable stuff. The beach is on top of the spillway, and there's likely more beach accesses closer to the Holly Bay Area that we didn't have time to explore. The lake is nice, you can safely explore the swimming areas outside the tiny designated swim area. There are dangers if the water is high, but there are plenty of giant signs to warn you of those if the conditions arise. It was hard to imagine in August the water being high enough, but there was plenty of evidence of the water, likely when the dam is intentionally released. We had only positive interactions with the camp hosts who delivered firewood & ice as needed. Will be back soon! - CartonC
May 2018 - $36.00
We love the campground we have been coming here for 12 years, Four or five times a year. We never had one problem till this year the camp host came by about every hour and would inspect our campsite. Just to make sure we were following the rules. We could not take the Nazi camp any longer. And came home after the first night. Camp at your own risk! - ijustwanttohavefun
Oct 2016 - $18.00
We stayed here for a couple of nights as we were passing through the area. Very nice campground with a mix of sites and rates (FHU, WE only, double sites). We had water and electric in a nice back in site (A19). Loops B and C were closed since they were winding down for the season. Verizon was fair, but only 4 OTA tv channels none of which were interesting. Nice private site with fire ring/grill and picnic table. We walked through Loop B even though it was closed and site B4 was very nice with plenty of room. Sites were paved with asphalt and general area was well kept. We would stay here again. - jtl2

Jul 2018 - $30.00
Very busy state park with lots of Kids and Dogs. Not too noisey especially for the weekend. Not a lot to do and the mill was closed. The old cabins and artifacts were ok. The sites on the"M" lop were weird in that the were difficult to back in the power and water were in a very inconvenient spot. Would not stay here again. - Crottys
Jun 2018 - $29.00
We were in H loop which are W/E pull-thru sites. Dump station was nearby, convenient and clean. Pretty spacious sites but no shrubbery or anything between sites. We had to use a second water hose and a 25 ft 30 amp extension cord to connect to the water/electric. It's a very large family oriented park. Our T-Mobile service was useless here as was the Wi Fi. Great park setting though. - DRKM
May 2018 - $27.00
The park people were very nice. The park is very nice, just wish they had more full hookups. It rained while were there and our site didn't have very much grass so we kept getting mud in the trailer no matter how much we wiped our feet. - JLHickerson

Nov 2018 - $50.00
Stayed during Tgiving. No other campers but would definitely go back. For private CG lots of space/trees between sites. Most sites are terraced and are level. Services are first rate including cable and WiFi. Ways off I75 so not convenient overnighter...more of destination CG. Easy drive to Cumberland Falls which was super cool including “Moonbow”. Laurel Lake super close but didn’t go there. - jamesriegler
Jul 2018 - $40.00
We stayed a total of three nights here in July - one night on our way down to our furthest destination point, and two nights on the way back. On our first visit, we arrived on a Sunday evening around 6:00. There was no one there, and the gate was locked. My T-mobile cell phone service did not work, so we couldn't call. I slipped through the side of the the gate to try to find a work-camper or a long-term resident. I found a wonderful couple who had Verizon service, and they were able to call the office. The husband not only got our site number, he took us to the site and back to the gate, giving us the code so we could get in. Almost a disaster, and an unwelcome surprise after a long day, but it all worked out. I would suggest that you call before your arrival on the day you are due to arrive to get your site information as well as the gate code so that you don't have a similar experience. This is a beautiful, quiet, woodsy campground. There are paths with gravel, and dirt paths through the woods and around the little lake. The lake is open for fishing, but not swimming, and it is too small to kayak. There is no noise or light pollution, so you can see the stars. It has a general sundry store, and they have a little cafe for breakfast and dinner (nothing fancy, and we didn't use it). The other campers were some of the friendliest people I've ever met camping. It is NOT a KOA-type campground, and there are no pre-planned activities (though there is a small playground and volleyball court). There is no pool, and the campground wifi isn't very good. Our AT&T hotspot couldn't get a functioning signal. They do have a laundry and shower, and trash must be taken to a trash area. It's the kind of campground I used to visit when I went camping with my family when I was a kid and we made our own fun and great memories. This is a wonderful campground - we loved it! - Morning Star
Sep 2017 - $40.00
We stayed here for two nights. Winding narrow road for several miles coming into park. No shoulder on the road so drive carefully. This is a gated campground which was nice. They give you a code to get in and out after 5:00pm. The owners are in the process of enlarging the campground and are adding another lake and up to 100 new camping sites with utilities. They own many more treed acres to the east. Very nice people with a great vision for their expansion. We stayed in a pull through site which had a little grass between the sites, along with picnic table and fire pit. There are two playground areas which looked fairly new. Beautiful treed area with small lake. My husband was able to practice his fly fishing. We would stay here again when in the area. - Honalee

This was our first visit to Holly Bay Campground, and boy were we pleased with this campground! The campground is very spacious and heavily forested throughout - to the point of barely seeing the campsite next to you. Laurel Lake borders nearly three sides of the campground, but with the woods all around, it is hard to see the water from the campsites. The good thing is that there is a gorgeous, shaded hiking trail that goes down and around part of the lake.
This has become our favorite campground to visit as it is the most scenic, clean, and quiet we have been to. - Mcoffman

Roads can be a little tight for big rigs. Roads and sites are rock. Sites tend to be a little unlevel. Water pressure low. Best we had was 35 psi. Plenty of grassy areas for dogs. Right next to road so some road noise during day. We thought it was a little expensive for what you get. - Ruffles
Jul 2015 - $40.00
Nice size for big rigs. Close to the Cumberland Falls. White water rafting trip is very easy for all ages, it's no where near the rides I've taken on other rivers. Very nice area just to drive around and hike the many trails in the park. We also did the horseback tour next door through the woods and had some great views and photo ops.
Only pull through sites have full hookup, but there is a dump station by the office for the rest of the sites the are water and electric only. Same owner here since 1985. - Oceanblue
Jun 2012 - $30.00
The RV sites are very basic. This is a hikers or white water rafting paradise. They have recently added RV facilities and these will get better. They offer shuttle service to the various hiking locations. It is the best place to stop if you have a big rig and want to visit Cumberland Falls State park as the park is not "Big" rig friendly. Shade is limited and sites are gravel. - A hitch and hop

Easy access from I75, but Google maps did not have it in the right location. I submitted a change, but it may not be updated yet. Sites are level and gravel. This is a small campground, mostly back-in with a few pull-thru sites. Wifi was OK, typical for a campground. The staff is very friendly. You actually register at the motel office. Close to diesel fuel and a McDonalds. - BuckeyeTravels
Nov 2017 - $36.00
The Westgate RV Park (and Budget Host Motel) is a well cared for, very convenient RV facility that is just great for an overnight stop (although it would serve well for a few days while visiting the area, too). We travel up and down I-75 frequently going from central Ohio to points south like Tennessee, western North Carolina, Georgia and Florida, so we have stayed here 17 times in the last 5 years. It has very good hook-ups including 50 amp electric, CBTV, and excellent (strong and secured) Wi-Fi. We've used the nice pool in warmer weather (clean and confortable) and have tried most of the restaurants in close proximity. The sites are limited and this isn't a "beautifully landscaped resort" or a nice setting in woods, but all the sites are easy to get into thanks to the big, open gravel lot in the center. We have had occasion to meet the owner twice and he's a kind, mild-mannered, customer oriented individual. The clerks at check-in (have been women) have always been very pleasant and prompt and provide me with all necessary information, including log-on password, restroom code, etc. By the way, the restrooms are exceptionally clean and nicely featured. Yes, there can be noise in the area (it's very commercial) and lots of lights from the surrounding parking lots, but we cope with good shades and a ceiling fan over our bed to cover outside noise. For the price, location, and the amenities, this has proven to be a really good overnight stop. We have made reservations from time to time and we've done so by simply calling them, never on-line. Frankly, most of the time we just stop in and we have never had a problem getting a site. - sandean
Sep 2017 - $34.00
This is a very basic place to stay overnight, right in the middle of a commercial area. It's located near Cracker Barrel and in back of another restaurant and behind the motel. The signage is poor and it's very hard to know where to turn. I called and asked where to go since it certainly didn't look like there was room to pull into the motel area. But, she said to pull in and park there anyway. Really small area. Once inside the motel lobby, the girl working seemed annoyed with my questions. The map of the campground she gave us was also confusing because she was telling us to drive over what looks like a grassy area and not a road. The road noise and the all night lights are certainly things to consider. It's a good place to stay overnight though. I reserved this stay on-line, on their website which added a $10.00 charge that I was not aware of until the reservation was complete. I was notified that the motel still had to approve the reservation. The next day, I called the motel to see if they had approved my reservation and the girl said they aren't notified when someone makes an on-line reservation. Busy weekend in this area (homecoming, festivals etc.) so things were booked up pretty tight. - Honalee

Campsites are not level and are grass and dirt. The setting is very nice - the lake was pretty low when we were there. The staff is very nice. There is a playground for kids. This would be a nice destination park for kids and families visiting Cumberland Falls State Park. - Bearpup

Be aware once water park closes for season, this place is deserted, so much so that I was a little concerned about leaving our trailer unattended (but no problems). Other than one employee at check-in, we never saw another staff person (though bathrooms remained very clean and well attended so we may have just missed them). There was debris on site next to us for all 4 nights we stayed there so don't think anyone regularly goes around to check out the campground. Bugs were more than awful and when we had a large rain storm we figured out why...drainage is very poor and takes hours to drain off and ground was soggy even the next day. Maybe during water park season it is more well attended. Pluses - large concrete pad and level gravel sites. Cable was mostly analog and very grainy but I won't know till next camping trip if it was our set or the campground. Very close to eateries and Walmart and interstate. NO shade at all, mostly a parking lot. - Kim Teems
May 2018 - $35.00
Small campground but very nice, level, gravel sites. Camped during the off season of the water park so it was not full, but I imagine it is full during the summer months when the water park is open. All back in sites except for 1 pull through site. Made reservations online but then switched sites when we arrived to a site that had a better stream view. Fairly peaceful and quiet. - ForzaDude
Aug 2017 - $35.00
Rather than repeat what we have previously said, please see our earlier review of this campground July, 2015. Since this campground is small, only about 18 sites, during the summer months (June-August) you should plan on making a reservation as far ahead as possible as they fill up on weekends. The campground has recently added a really nice bath house adjacent to the campground, rather than having to go over to the water park facilities as in the past. Also, there is a full time campground host, an employee of the water park, on site. If you use satellite service we suggest that you review the park layout on Google Maps to select an appropriate site as there are very large/tall trees along the southern end of the campground. We really enjoy the spacious sites, peace and quiet and accommodating host, at this small park and will certainly plan on another stop over on our next trip up the nearby I-75 corridor. - Johnson's
