Stayed during Oct so everyone had decorated for Halloween which was awesome. Campground was totally full but there is lots of space between sites. Watch out for kids on the roads, they are everywhere. Great wooded campground and clean showers/restrooms. Kids enjoyed the playground as well. Parking on the grass is the norm here for TV and visitors so if it were to rain, it could get muddy, lucky for us it was dry. We love this campground overall after 3 stays and will continue be regulars for sure. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lovely park. Mostly very short spaces, verify you can fit. Park is right next to a highway and a quarry - can be very loud during the week. Great place for kids. Well-stocked store. Laundry $1.50. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I've stayed here twice and have been pleased. That said...I'd like to note that neither site I've been to has been level. The first time I came here, I ended up parking straight in hoping that the lower front end of my class C would help with the slope. This time, I backed in but leveling the back was a bit difficult. Before coming here, be sure to look at a detailed map to plan your approach via a main highway. On both of my visits, Google Maps brought me in a back way that I would not recommend. Also, make sure you have an extension for your fresh water hose as the water spigots are shared across two campsites. You don't need a splitter as there are two faucets, but you may need to run your hose to the other side of your RV. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Motorhome.

I gave it a 7 because there was a lot of rain and our site was filled with mud/water when we arrived. Later after more rain mud washed up over our rug which we had to put down because of the mud there when we arrived. The sites need to have gravel added to prevent this. This is a nice campground otherwise and we will come back but will not stay in that lower area. Staff friendly and grass was mowed. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I use to bring my two children here from 1998-2004 in a pop-up camper. We are from Louisville, so the drive was easy. The kids always had a blast. We met other camping families and would arrange to meet up again and camp next to each other and share dinners. It was always a good time. The bathrooms were always so clean and plenty for kids to do. I felt safe with my kids even when my husband couldn't join us. I visited again in April 2019, in my new camper, just to reminisce with my now 24 yo son. I was so afraid it wouldn't be what we remembered. It didn't disappoint. It is a great family campground. Kids on bikes and participating in the many events the campground schedules. The one thing I didn't like and didn't remember from when my kids were small was the traffic noise from the nearby highway. The Fort is educational for the kids and there is a nice pool next door with campers discounts. There aren't any great views, so not very scenic. It just makes me happy seeing families enjoying each other. Campsites are small and close together. Nice camp store that wasn't there when we use to visit. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campsites are not level and were very muddy after several days of rain. Unfortunately I they allow people to leave rugs on the grass which kills the grass and this creates a muddy mess after a rain. This could be remedied by putting gravel in the patio areas. Utilities are ok, but water connections are shared and far away from each site. Park is celebrating Halloween the whole month of October and it is very noisy between the road traffic on the highway, cars, trucks and golf carts driving around the campground and lots of kids playing in the streets long after dark. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while visiting friends in Richmond. The campsites are closer together than in any state park we have seen, also noisiest. Concrete factory and busy road with truck traffic nearby. Large unavoidable mud hole next to RV door. Water access is on the right, far off, and power on left. Site barely fit our RV and disconnected toad. On the good side staff are friendly and bathrooms are clean. Overall it feels like a city type KOA, not a state park. Bring lots of water hose, and earplugs if light sleeper. The area is beautiful, but the campground was a disappointment. Many sites are not level, pull through site are half pavement and have gravel. Out site has a huge pot hole about 6 feet by 4 feet. Bring a long water hose because you share water with the site next to you. Water hookup is nowhere near the electrical pedestal. If you are looking for peace and quiet, look elsewhere. The highway noise is extremely loud, and a cement mixing plant is within stones throw of our site and the pound noise sounds like a train running constantly and they start up at 6 a.m. obviously the camp hosts have little to do because the fire rings are full of debris. The checkin staff did not even know the hours of the park. There are only about 25 sites with sewer hookup starting with site #1. Water pressure is good. We will not be returning to this noisy environment. We camped in site 98. We did get satellite. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I hadn't been to this State Park for over 30 years, was amazed at how clean and nice everything was. This has become our CG to stay at now when visiting friends. The bath house is new and very clean, the grounds were mowed. There is a ton of stuff to do in the park itself. Will definitely be back. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Everything was very clean and neat in this park even though it was full. Restrooms and grounds were immaculate! Also, we were amazed that a state park provided laundry facilities. My only complaint would be that the sites are very close together, and there is no privacy at all. Interior roads were quite easy to navigate. We barely squeezed into our pull-thru site without having to unhitch, but some pull-thru sites were longer. The route we took from Lexington on 418 had lots of low-hanging branches and one extremely steep hill. I would not recommend it for high profile fifth wheels. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped here for 2 nights in a motor home. There are few full hookup sites and even fewer pull through sites. This is a VERY busy park. We had a full hook up site and the water pressure and electric were good. You should be able to get satellite reception in most sites. Sites A for the most part not level. You'll have to work at it at most sites. But a good park close to the highway. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Motorhome.

Old Fort Boonesborough is right down the road for you touring pleasure. A couple of nice restaurants are near too. Hall's on the River is a good one.

The Boonesborough fort has an interesting history. It has been rebuilt and is used for reinactments, which are popular with tourists. It is a short distance from the campground, so that reinactments do not impact campers. The campground is about 15-20 miles from town, not terribly convenient for dining out.

Of course, the reason for this state park is that this is the location of Fort Boonesborough which was constructed in 1775 by Daniel Boone and those he lead. Today the recreated fort is a living history museum.
nazpaz • May 2017 -
Be sure to check the schedule to see if the reconstructed Fort Boonesborough will be open during your visit. They also have special events throughout the year like Women on the Frontier, Spring Trade Days, A Gathering of Descendants, The 1778 Siege of Boonesborough , Touched by the Fire Blacksmith's Weekend, Rifle Frolic and Frontier Skills, Winter Trade Days at the Fort and 18th Century Christmas at the Fort.

There are numerous things to do around Fort Boonesborough State Park. There is a canoe rental on the Kentucky River, fishing on the river, you can tour Fort Boonesborough which is right down the road from the campground, hiking in the park, and numerous bourbon distilleries within 30 min drive.

Stop by the Winchester/Clark County tourism office for all kinds of good info. The ladies who work there are very knowledgeable and very friendly. If you like Beer Cheese, do the Beer Cheese Trail. Bluegrass Museum was interesting to visit. Graze Restaurant requires reservations and is open 5 days a week for dinner only. Halls is a good restaurant close to the cg. Cairns is downtown and is a "new age" sandwich shop. Lexington is a short drive.
