Big Rig Friendly! Stayed in our class A, 45' motorhome with tow. Plenty of space, easy to navigate, pretty level concrete pads, full hook ups, picnic table, fire ring. Many sites back up to a large pond. Pool was closed for the season. It rained the 2 days we visited, so we did not explore the area all that much. Staff helpful. Office hours seem a little limited. Nice clubhouse. Casino nearby and a shuttle will pick up. Would definitely return when in the area. - 2SimsNanRV
Oct 2018 - $39.00
This campground is in a flat open field in a country-like setting. Pads are fairly flat concrete for parking and patio areas. Although located on a main road, park was very quiet. We only stayed one night on our way to Tennessee. Rest rooms/sh. - Revvie
Aug 2018 - $38.00
Big rig friendly! All sites are long and level with concrete patio. Front section is open and sunny with limited landscaping between sites. Back section is along the woods and is a little more private and quiet. Pool and bounce pad are available to entertain the kids. Paved trail through the woods will entertain your dog. There's a big clubhouse which would be great for rallies. Nothing to walk to in the immediate area, but Belterra Casino has free shuttle service that runs until 1:30am. Did have a 30 amp breaker issue, but maintenance was quick to respond. This would be an excellent CG choice to tour the area if you have another vehicle at your disposal. - Flying Mantis

Jul 2016 - $30.00
Stayed here as an over night stop an a recent trip. Only had electric hookup. Dump station and water available. Deep, wet grass. Area needed mowing real bad. When I made my reservations I was quoted $30, but when I arrived I found that since it was race weekend, the rate was $75. They finally accepted the $30 rate I was quoted.
The camp sites are basically electric hook ups in a cow pasture. I had to use 4wheel drive on my truck when pulling out the next morning because my tires were spinning on the wet grass. - arkansasmel
Jul 2015 - $30.00
This is basically a cow pasture turned into a campground. If you have a large RV it is not the place to stay. Also it is right across the street from the main railroad between Louisville and Cincinnati. Trains run all night and there is a crossing there so they blow the whistle 3 times. No sleep! There is only electric at each site so IMO it is overpriced. Sites are all tall grass, so pray it doesn't rain or you're stuck. Will not stay again, will boondock before staying there. - Ljbtn
May 2015 - $30.00
Sparta Campground! Our 2nd time back! The owners are two of the loveliest people we have met in our lifetime! We stayed on Snob Knob (due to a little oversight on the owner's part). It was a quick switch to a different site & we had a wonderful couple nights with electric & water hook-ups! The train is loud and can wake you up, that is for sure (but it is dark & quiet down in that valley at night, otherwise). The property that the campground is situated on is an old tobacco farm & in MY opinion, it is simply gorgeous!! The hills that roll up around the campsites are covered with tall trees & it is the country AT its BEST!! We loved this short trip to Kentucky & our black lab had another fun time! Thanks again to the owners & their gracious southern hospitality! - patti&charlie

Site #61 is a back in and was too steep to level trailer. Host helped us move to site #19 which worked. Sites on top are ok.Sites off Ridge are short and hard to level up. This a very beautiful park . - NE Travelers
Jul 2018 - $26.00
Stayed at Big Bone Lick as a base camp to attend the Quaker State 400 in nearby Sparta, KY. The girls stayed back at the park and enjoyed the clean swimming pool. Site 11 was level but did require 75 foot of water hose to reach the spigot. Bathrooms were clean and showers as well. This park is at least 10 miles from any gas, restaurants or shopping so bring what you need. - kbot
Jun 2018 - $25.00
Decent state camping park. Sites are not very level. You will need at least two or possibly three water hoses here. Showers dated but acceptable. Small store sells ice and other items. Mini golf is also available as well as a swimming pool. Very nice setting. - sjwake

This park is about 15 miles off of I-71. It is on a winding dangerous one lane country road with many sharp twists and turns. A truly nerve racking drive after several hours on the highway. When we arrived at 6 PM there was no one around. Some sites were closed down for the winter. We had to search for one with water. Store/reception run down. The nicest thing about this campground was the signs directing to the park. Once there it was down hill fast. I would never stay here again. - murph164

Small RV park across the street from the casino. Shuttle to the casino. Bathhouse with individual bathrooms with showers. Laundry (w/d $1.50). Full hookups, level. Spotty cable and weak wifi. No fire unless you bring a covered stand. Parking for a towed vehicle on the site. We spent 5 days here and enjoyed exploring the town and the casino. Clean, well kept newer campground. Very reasonable rates due to October special and Rewards card. - Pankie

Sep 2018 - $50.00
There are two sections of this campground, one is on the Ohio River and the other is closer to state route 56 (maybe 3/4 of a mile away). The sites near the office are surrounded by apartments. We stayed on the lower level near the river in site 133. It was very quiet and peaceful. There are no trees/shade on lower level but nice sized sites. There were quite a few seasonal campers in the lower level, some nice some I wouldn't want to be around if they were going down the highway. When we arrived we were in a hurry to set up before a huge storm moved in. Got camper level, slides out, Wheels chocked and that's when we realized we had no power at our post. Had enough extension cord to confirm we had power at the site next to ours. Call the office and 40 minutes later two guys arrived in a golf cart with no tools or anything. While we were waiting for them my dog actually sniffed near the post and yelped. Walked over to see what happened and found the clamp on ground rod loose as could be. I'm assuming he got a small shock from touching it. Showed the workers the clamp but they didn't have any to replace it. Their solution was to just leave my camper plugged into the neighbors post and did offer an extension cord. Luckily our neighbors were friends of ours and they didn't mind. I also pointed out the sewer pipe in ground was broken and had no threads to hook onto and picnic table legs were broken. They mentioned they were slowing replacing all of them as most had been hit by the lawn mowers. This campground has so much potential but needs some tlc. On a plus side they're was fresh gravel on the driveway but the lots could use some as most of our site was all grass with patches of gravel. We weren't offered a different site or any type of refund for our troubles. I would return in the future but would be sure to check for power before unhooking from tow vehicle. - Kyle S
Jul 2018 - $56.00
Older campground near river. There are 2 sections - one that is original area, second has river frontage. with fewer facilities. Original owners died recently and the daughters are trying to restore the campground to its previous 'glory'. We visited the weekend before the Fourth of July. Many seasonal sites. Mix of pull-thrus and back-ins. Restrooms are minimal but clean and well-stocked. Lots of shade in the older section. Many activities for holiday weekend. Pool is clean and heavily used. Roads are gravel. Sites are dirt and gravel. Staff helpful and friendly. Passport America Mon/Tue/Wed. Would return. - grandma0942

We are in a 40' motorhome and, with our tow vehicle dropped, we could not make the turns at the ends of the loops without some back and forth. Water hook-ups are a bit far from the pad but provided excellent water pressure and nice tasting water. No cap on our sewer hook-up. Several sites that would work, but many sites too short and unlevel. Roads and site surfaces in good condition, large parking lots near park entrance were an easy place to drop our tow vehicle. - SilverBus
Jun 2018 - $34.00
Camp site loops are not adequately marked with warnings for big rigs. We were in a 35' and were almost stuck navigating a loop. Satellite reception was good at site 65. Dump station was convenient. We didn't use the WiFi so can't comment. - lovingthervlife
Apr 2018 - $35.00
Not the nicest state park camping area in Kentucky, I was disappointed in the condition of the sites and the camping area in general. The sites, with the exception of the middle-most loop or the sideways pull through sites in the first loop, are very uneven and tilted. The grassy areas around the sites are sparse and it gets a bit muddy if it rains hard. There were several trees completely blown over right on site pads while we were there, not a comforting sight. While it was a cold April time, we were rather surprised and disappointed at the bareness of the campground we found, and that after going out of our way to be here. Frankly, the cabins section is far better with rather nicely designed and appointed cabins, but RV sites were weak. All sites are water and electric hook-ups only. We did not use any facilities. In fact, it was cold while there so we didn't hook up water and we didn't use the dump station the next morning. I'm not sure I'd ever return here. - sandean

Jun 2018 - $36.00
Online reviews of this park were really good, so I was glad she could fit us in for the weekend. When we arrived we had to pull up to the office to register and there is really no parking lot. Our site was behind us on the narrow road so we had to take their turnaround circle which is a little tight for a 42 ft fifth wheel. When we got to the site we found for that price we had no sewer hookups so if we wanted to dump we would have to go through the turnaround again! Music was going late into the night Saturday, til about midnight. Sites were tight, very close together, so close that when someone pulled in next to us it killed our dish TV. No room to swing a big rig when park is full, which it was both nights we were there. We were thinking we were going to have to try to back out, but found out our neighbors on both sides are also pulling out tomorrow. Also the site was just long enough for our RV and we had to park our truck on a lot about 150 feet away. They had cable but only 9 channels, most local so we weren't at all interested. People were very nice and considerate and the great thing is the Ark Encounter is only 19 miles away! Many full timers back in the park but they save the front for those of us who come and go. This place is surrounded by woods and many sites back up to the creek so that's nice. - overogal
May 2018 - $27.00
This park has a lot of full time RVers. But with that being said, they have a transient section with only 19 sites, of those 15 are W/E/50 amp and 4 are W/E/30 amp, and all 19 do not have sewer. With that few sites, you have to make reservation early. I made reservation on April 7th, for a site on May 30th, and all the 50 amp were reserved by the end of March. I did manage to get a 30 amp site and was really happy. All the sites that they have are all back-in. This park is clean and friendly. It is 17 miles from the Ark Encounter. They are opened all year round. We have a 45' coach and were able to maneuver the campground road and back in our site. We would use this park again, if we pass through this area. Just make reservation EARLY. The showers were clean with 4 stalls. The showers have tile floor and 3/4 the way up the wall. - Honeybear & Sugarbear
May 2018 - $35.00
Unfriendly service! When you check in they take your money & then give you a map and you are on your own to find your site and manage to get backed in. The sites are mostly short and narrow back ins. The sites are narrow that we had to step out into the mud after a rain. Had to pull the truck & trailer out of the site to even get into it without walking through mud. 50 amp service was good. Poor cable & no WiFi service. Site was not mowed and was unkept. Long term renters are located in the back of park. Short term are crowded together in the front of the park. Thankful it was only for 1 night. - Texan58

The good, FHU sites. Close to the event we were attending. The bad: Located with railroad tracks on one side and Interstate on the other side. Heavily treed, no satellite at all. Many sites are better suited for campers and 5th wheels, instead og 40 Ft DP. This is do to leveling. This campground in my opinion is no longer used for a camping destination spot, but over-night and workers in the area. - Gatorcq
Aug 2018 - $29.00
Without a doubt, one of the noisiest parks I've stayed at in 11 years of traveling. Freeway noise is not uncommon, but the trains were terrible with one every half hour - 200 feet from our site. There is a crossing very close. Excruciating train whistle for those with hearing aids. Even with both a/cs running, the train whistle was excruciatingly loud. Park was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely will NOT stay here again! - davedopp
Jul 2018 - $32.00
This is one of our favorite parks. We do not agree with the previously posted negative reviews. Yes, there is some traffic noise, but we did not find it to be excessive and it was almost completely drowned out by the white noise of our air conditioner. We enjoyed sitting outside of our trailer and reading. It is quite peaceful. The trains during the day are loud, but we didn't hear any at night (maybe we slept through them, or maybe the schedules have changed since the negative reviews were posted). The park is beautiful with many mature trees. It has a KOA feel to it and we were told that it was the second KOA in the USA. However, it is now independent, and it is cheaper than any similar KOA we've ever stayed at. The management are very friendly and the utilities all worked fine. We stayed a day longer than we had originally planned, and we would certainly return to this park and recommend it to our friends. - John A Guderian

A little difficult to locate, but getting in park and site was no problem. Blacktop streets with concrete pads. Full Hookup, no cable, no local stations. Was not able to get WiFi to work. Campground very large and clean. Driving from interstate 6 miles, but was not a problem. We reserve over the phone, reservation made, no check-in required. We camped here in a 42 ft Motor Home. Site was large enough and patio tables were like new! - Guidry's
Apr 2018 - $32.00
This is a beautiful park; long, wide, level concrete sites with concrete patios and picnic tables. The only reason I rated them only satisfactory for service is because reservations must be made either on-line or during the day since the phone rings into the city building and is only answered during business hours. There is no cable and we were not able to pull in any stations by our antenna. Wi-Fi worked well once you got through the hassle of downloading their program to check for anti-virus. All utilities were conveniently located and worked well with plenty of water pressure. Our only complaint is they have a two-dog limit. We foster and rescue tiny dogs and never know for sure how many we will have with us at any particular time. I really hate these restrictions because I don't understand how three or even four small dogs could cause as much disruption or make as much mess as two 70-pounders. We will definitely stay here again any time we can meet their pet restriction. - SandyA
Nov 2017 - $40.00
This gem has become our home away from home in the summer. Beautiful campground nestled right on the banks of the Kentucky River. Sites are concrete and level with concrete patios. Full hookups right where they need to be and super clean. It's a fairly new park with a LOT of pull-through sites and several back-ins. Our favorite sites are the back-ins that are overlooking the river. I've always paid in advance on their website or called the office as there's nobody on site that I've ever seen. Every now and then a City of Carrollton truck might wander through (the park is city owned) but that's about it. No hassles whatsoever. Carrollton has several good sit down restaurants, a Walmart and a Kroger, so almost anything you'd need is just a few miles away. If you're feeling adventurous, take a trip across the bridge to Madison, Indiana where you'll find more mighty fine eating establishments, antique shops, cafes, etc. - sixtires58
