What to say! This park and campground are in such sad shape. The restroom/shower/laundry facility was the only bright spot. The road into the park is comparable to driving a mine field. The road through the campground is even worse. Filled with potholes. Most, but not all, sites are either uphill or downhill. A sign at the entrance says to stay on the asphalt, but there were vehicles and boats parked everywhere alongside sites and the road. Muddy ruts were everywhere, making walking on the potholed road your only option. The location itself was nice, with trails leading down to the lake at many places. It appeared that the park is used mostly by locals. Talking with a staff member, it seems that no improvements were scheduled for the near future. I would not stay here again. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Travel Trailer.

First thing you notice about this campground is the interior roads are in really sad shape. They are full of pot holes that have been filled with either gravel or dirt which quickly turn to mud. Don't go here hoping to keep your camper clean. The next thing you will notice is that the sites are REALLY sloped front to back. We were down as far as we could go on the tongue and noticed pretty much everyone else was the same way. Even some of the small motor homes had 5 or 6 blocks under the tires. The weekend is party time here, lots of the sites had a camper, boat, multiple trucks and ATV's, and since there isn't enough parking for all these vehicles they just park anywhere making the mud even worse. There was not a camp host to enforce any of the park rules like staying on the asphalt. I would highly recommend getting a site that has a deck, we didn't have one of these but they looked nice. The sites with a deck are: 2, 10, 30, 38, 44-50, 52, 53, 55. Not sure if any tent campers use these reviews, but the tent only campsites overlooked the lake from a nice bluff, #2 would be amazing. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We managed to get a last minute booking for 4 nights over Thanksgiving and drove 200 miles from west of Houston to the park. Easy to find and well signed. We had a great 4 nights and lucked out with the weather. I booked a pull thru (18) which wasn't exactly level and wished I'd booked a back-in in the 30's up near the reservoir. The site was fine, though the fire pit position - right next to the loop road - didn't make much sense given the site is big. The park trails are excellent - we ran, walked and biked them. We would stay again, but go for a site on the water.

The staff were really friendly but I was surprised (and I've stayed in many state parks) that they didn't sell firewood, but it's OK to bring your own. Tip - take your own as the nearest place to buy is 8 miles away. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The park is nice, quite a few sites right on the water. We stayed in site 37. This site was not level we had about 18” front to back we had to get level took a while and a lot of blocks but finally we were almost somewhat level. Our friends stayed in 39, same issue with leveling they had a nice porch on their site which was nice because 2 out of the 4 days we were there it rained, we just put the awning out and we were kept dry. The roads in the park are in pretty rough shape. We had to go slow. They have beautiful cabins, although I did not go inside they looked really nice from the outside some even had docks. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hiking nice paths, ATV, fishing you can use either LA or Texas license if your out in a boat, however if you are on shore you need LA license day passes $5. As you exit the park turn left about 6 miles down the road there is a military base, we went there often, 20# of ice was $3, at the park #7 was $2. They had beer and you can buy day fishing license.

We stayed at this SP with our 2 small children and we really enjoyed it. The sites are large and for the most part level. There are not full hook ups so we used the shower house which was walking distance and it was very clean and the water was hot! There are 2 small parks for the kids to play at and a small beach. The beach area is kind of mossy and not the best but the kids still had a nice time. We did find a "pebble beach" behind the woods on our site and the kids LOVED that! Even our boxer loved playing in the water. It was cleaner water than at the beach. We stayed at site 7 (1007). There is 1 site next to you on one side and nothing on the other but woods. Then there were sites across but no one was in them. There was a small drop (6 inches) from the pavement to the grass. I only mention that because our rug went over it and the kids would trip so we had to roll the rug. We loved the bike rides, the visitor station was clean and had a restroom and the lake was beautiful. My only disappointment was I thought our site would have water views which it did not, but that's my mistake. Online on the map it shows on the water, but there are quite a few trees between your site and the lake. We will be going again. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed over the weekend, park is not being well cared for, boat docks in disrepair , interior roads horrible. Most sites are decent but no level or even close. Wifi spotty but is ok. Some sites are very narrow, your first step out of your camper can be tricky as the ground level is way below where your last step ends. lots of shade and some sites have a lake view . Nice State park with lots of shade and room between sites. Bring plenty of wood for leveling, the sites are way off level. Interior roads are in need of repairs. No over air tv but a few sites can get satellite. Good laundry facilities. Bring all your supplies because the stores aren't close. Would have given a higher rating if the sites were more level and had sewer. We would camp here again if in the area. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We love this state park. It's beautiful. Still hoping they will do some work to make the sites more level, and the interior roads are beginning to need attention too, which is really keeping me from giving it a higher score. Plenty of wildlife abound, cheeky raccoons, deer, snakes, birds, and good fishing too. Sites are roomy and clean and shaded. Even has wifi, not great, but enough to check email, facebook, etc. No TV and no luck with the satellite either, so bring your dvds or your board games to entertain yourselves at night. Noticed lots of patrols by Park Police being done. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Motorhome.

Park seemed nice. We just needed an overnight on the way somewhere else. This was conveniently located when we needed a place to overnight. No reservation but they charged us a $6 reservation fee. First time I ever walked in without a reservation and was charged a reservation fee. The woman at the gate said they started charging that for everyone at the beginning of this year. She assigned us a pull through site that would accommodate us so we would not have to unhitch. The site was so unlevel we had to unhitch just to make it work. It was raining and we were exhausted so just went with it. Will not return, probably not to any Louisiana state park if they charge a reservation fee, even without a reservation. Ridiculous.
