Overall Rating:

This campground is in the Kisatchie National Forest and is run by the national forest service. You cannot make reservations; it is strictly first come, first serves. We were told that week days are almost never a problem, but weekends can be fairly busy. Once you leave Hwy 28 there is really good signage all of the way into the park. It is a narrow winding road, but we had no problem with our 41' fifth wheeler. There 2 loops; loop A has 13 sites and loop B has 28 sites. There is a bathhouse on each loop. There are single sites ($25) and double sites ($30). $15 and $17.50 with a Senior Pass. There is no attendant to take your money. You have to pay at a drop box, and they do not take credit cards: cash or check only. Some of the single sites are very narrow with trees close enough that you would really have to watch your slides. The double-size sites are very spacious and well worth the extra $5. All sites have water and 20/30/50 electricity. At the end of loop A there is a turn that is very tight, so swing as wide as possible if you have a big rig. A few of the sites need work to make them level and improve the surface. There were no street lights so it was nice and dark. We did hear a little noise form Hwy 28, but it was not loud. There were jets flying over some, but that is common all over the world. We looked in the bathhouse, and it was small; two toilets and one shower, but clean and in good shape. We were able to get good OTA TV reception and some cell service (Verizon). We do not have a satellite dish, but from the number of trees I think reception would be poor. The beach area is open only in the summer. We walked down to the area, and it was very nice. There are extensive hiking trails of varying length. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

There is a Dollar General in Gardner about 9 miles west of the campground. Across the street from there is a truck stop, hardware store and pharmacy. Walmart is about 17 miles east towards Alexandria.

Out of the way on Highway 28. But no golf carts riding around all day. Had an issue with the 50 amp service but the camp host repaired right away. Nothing fancy just a nice place to get away from the hustle. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We know to arrive & setup on a Monday or Tuesday in order to grab the best campsite or 1 of the best sites.

Normal camp site prices are $15 single & $20 double.

We are retired & use America the Beautiful Pass.

Campground will fill up on Friday.

Loop B has a nice rubberized playground for children.

Site 29 is a double site at the end of the B loop, extremely large & private surrounded by trees & an easy walk to the lake for fishing from a small pier or bank if you bring tall rubber boots.

On site 29 you will need to level your trailer tires 1 1/2" on the drivers side & to disconnect as the front will be 2 inches lower than the rear.

We lost service for 2 hours after a small storm due to a branch falling on power lines. Cleco did a very good job finding the problem & correcting it in a short time.

Electric box was good & well maintained.

Water pressure requires a reducer which is a common problem during an offseason week before a weekend.

Best bet is to bring a portable wheeled sewer container to take to the dump station as needed. Dump station is 1/2 mile distant.

This is a National Forest area so there is no accumulating & burning deadfalls from the forest. Bring your own bonfire wood.

Love the many walking & bicycle trails.

Do not expect any campsite to be perfectly level, there are no concrete pads but the camping area is solid, not even a motorhome will sink when it rains.

Safety is not a problem, we have camped at Kincaid over 20 times & have left for hours at a time to fish, boat across the lake to Tunks Cypress Inn restaurant or go into town. Never had any problems with thefts.

There is a live-in manager in both section A & section B & both are very nice but put up with zero problems such as loud all night parties, speeding, golf carts which are not street legal.

Small Garbage bins in front of every campsite & are picked up every day. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is camping in a National Forest with an attached lake. There is a very good boat launch within 1 mile. During the swimming season April to September - there is a beach area with picnic tables, permanent barbecues & a public restroom facility. This is an excellent place to walk or bicycle in the forest with numerous long trails.

Overall Rating:

Campground run by the State of Louisiana Rapides Parrish Police Jury.
Stayed in the older section in the double space at the far end #12.
Excellent walking trails, fair small fishing pier down a hill.
Electric & water only but dumping station is on the way out or use a portable for extended stays.
Each section has a live-in Manager that cleans showers & rest rooms.
There is a boat launch 1/4 mile away, a lake beach swimming area & this is a forested type campground not a resort.
Because it is within a National Forest - you must bring in any bonfire wood & it is illegal to gather wood to burn in the provided fire ring.
No Wi-Fi available or cable TV - older State Campground. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Great place to use walking trails & for boating / fishing. Very quiet forest atmosphere.
To get this particular space - better plan on arriving during the week as it is very popular.

This site is a bit off the main road on a nice lake with swim beaches and hiking trails all over the place. The sites are not all that level but we got a nice flat one. The "single" sites are all a bit tight and if you have slides on both sides you may want to go into one of their double sites and pay the extra $5. This is a National FS CG and we had the old farts card and only paid $7.50. I found out as we were leaving that they want you to pay $9/night. The bath rooms were clean and Verizon Wi-Fi worked very, very slowly. For being out in the woods you could hear a lot of distant car, plane, train, and boat noise. Nothing too disturbing, but it was always there. They have a new play ground for the kids. Lots of hiking/biking trails. All and all a nice CG. Paved roads and pads. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in this isolated park for four days. Since it's a national park, they accepted our golden access card and only charged us $9.50/night. The pads were blacktopped and fairly level, and the hookups were conveniently located. The roads into the campground were paved all the way from La. Highway 28. We rarely saw a ranger and the park was never over one-half full. The fishing is great. There are sites for swimming and even a fishing pier. There is a dump station located on the road into the park. The city of Alexandria is 19.1 miles away from the campground. We'll definitely stay here again. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Great NF park. Stayed four days and loved it. The rest rooms had AC, not bad for a NF park. Only negative is there is only one shower in each of the rooms. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice secluded campground. The pads are clean with new electrical panels with 50A, 30A, and 20A outlets. The sites are all shaded. There is a new playground equipped with slides and swings for the kids next to the bath house. There are over 31 miles of hiking trails in the national forest that this campground is in. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
